Oh no, Mclaren could lose all of their constructor points! All 1 of them! :scared:

I was afraid that it would go this far. WMSC have the power to end Hamilton's season or even disqualify McLaren entirely from the season. I hope they just fine the team $500k or something.

500k? Good luck getting anything near as low as that if they are fined. I don't know what's going to happen but I hope Lewis walks from mclaren, I want to like him but when he drives for that team for me it isn't happening. Put him in a below par car :D

Yeah this doesnt look good for McLaren at all. Whatever about miscommunication or accidental ignorance towards the last McLaren-WMSC episode lightning doesnt strike twice. If I were Vodafone, or even Mercedes, I'd be considering leaving them. I use to admire Ron Dennis. :(

It surprised me reading this part, I thought that in Sepang, and faced with the crew-driver recording, McLaren had aknowleged immediately that LH was given orders to allow Trulli's pass:

- on 2 April, 2009, at a second hearing before the stewards of the Australian Grand Prix, (meeting in Malaysia) made no attempt to correct the untrue statement of 29 March but, on the contrary, continued to maintain that the statement was true, despite being allowed to listen to a recording of the team instructing Hamilton to let Trulli past and despite being given more than one opportunity to correct its false statement;

- on 2 April, 2009, at the second stewards' hearing, procured its driver Hamilton to continue to assert the truth of the false statement given to the stewards on 29 March, while knowing that what he was saying to the stewards was not true.

I wouldn't walk away from McLaren just yet if I were him. Win another season and get the the F1 LM, then leave.

This one is going to get real interesting.

Yep. The FIA has definitely been against Hamilton for as long as I can remember...I won't be surprised if this action results in an excessive fine or suspension for Lewis.

This isn't anything to do with Lewis.

Yeah it's not as if the FIA have no reason......

EDITED BY MOD F1 i am so tired of all it's EDITED BY MOD,every year there is something someone has complain about,i miss the 98' and 99' seasons they were alot more fun to watch even the 00' and 01' seasons were better.

Maybe this is so one of the most succesful teams of all time have a really bad start to the year

After reading the FIA press release all I can say is the FIA boot will be going up the McLaren rectal cavity very very hard after this one. ;) They got caught out lying......twice!! And it's not like Lewis couldn't have told the truth, he could've saved his own bacon but decided to be Ron Dennis' lapdog once again and kept rolling along with the lie.

I said it last year when he passed under the safety car with Kimi, I'll say it again this year. Lewis Hamilton is a cheat!! A no good, dirty driving, Timo Glock bribing, Pussycat Doll screwing cheat!! :sly:

Er, well, if you want someone to blame, blame McLaren for trying to cheat.

And honestly, arguments over rules and cheating teams have been in the sport from the beginning. People were fed up of the constant penalties in 1994 (mainly knee-jerk reactions because of earlier incidents) people were fed up of penalties last year. People are always fed up.

Point is, you're going to watch F1 anyway and really, this latest "outrage" is not the FIA's fault. Would you rather McLaren be allowed to cheat? Would you rather see Trulli be given a penalty he didn't deserve?

How exactly did McLaren cheat?

Okay, I know they weren't honest, we should get past that. The Disqualification from melbourne is punishment enough.

Because they let Trulli past then under a flag then claimed they didn't which meant a difference in final positions. If McLaren had just said "yeah we let him past" then there would be nothing made of this, Lewis would have bene given the points for the position he finished and not bumped up a place based on the false claim that Trulli passed illegally.

Put it this way:
I you are Trulli, and you see a car slowing, how are you meant to know he does or doesn't have a problem and if he's letting you through? You don't, so under safety car you are forced to overtake.

Now, you turn up after the race and are told "you overtook under safety car, as the other driver claimed they didn't let you past". Now see where the cheating comes in? McLaren essentially put Trulli in a position where he would be penalised for no reason, Trulli couldn't have avoided overtaking Hamilton as he didn't know what he was doing.

Its not just lying, its lying in order to get another team unfairly penalised which is what makes this so serious. This hasn't happened in F1...well ever I can't remember this happening before and attempting to trick the stewards into penalising other competitors is probably the worst you can do.

Whatever punishment McLaren gets, be it being banned from racing or a hefty fine, they deserve it. This is way worse than Ferrari team orders or Spygate.

but technically he should have been in that position to begin with. Trulli went off track.

I honestly think they didn't know what to do, and when the race was over if they had said something they would have been given the 25 second penalty.

McLaren is screwed. I can't see them getting out of this "meeting" unscathed...

Yes, and if they had said "oh, we let Trulli past" then everything would be fine.

But they didn't, they said "we didn't let Trulli past" so this means Trulli gets penalised just because he isn't in on McLaren's team radio.

If they had said something, they wouldn't have got a penalty, just been demoted to 4th. But they felt lying to get 3rd and have Trulli disqualified was worth the risk.

How can I word this any differently? They were tricking the stewards! Don't you realise how serious that is?

Yeah, but do you really think these conspiracy theorists are going to listen to common sense? Of course not! They want a conspiracy to exist, and so they'll to anything to prove there is one, even when there are far more logical, rational and sensible explanations at hand. Maybe Lewis Hamilton and McLaren really do screw up as much as the FIA say they do ...

Well, technically is something to do with Lewis as he apparently had 2 chances to tell the truth but failed to so, but I'll let that slide for him because:
1. Drivers always trust their team.
2. Especially in Hamilton's case, thanks to his upbringing with the team basically.

I don't really blame Lewis for this at all and feel sorry he got dragged down with McLaren with these tactics, I really hope he reconsiders other teams because he deserves better.

Shouldn't he stewards listened to the radio broadcasts before making a decision anyway? Hell, I think it was rather silly to lie to the stewards when they knew that they could request the radio chatter.

But haven't they received enough punishment?

Ok, this is one thing I can agree on, they did take a while to get the necessary evidence together. But on the other hand, they could only make a judgement on what they had, so they did. Then during review of thier decision and further evidence, they found this.
I think in this case the stewards did the right thing.

And no, they haven't recieved enough punishment, a murderer isn't let off just because he already got punished for stealing (extreme example I know, but gets the point across).
And if you're wondering why they didn't get their punishment given already, its not in the stewards' power to punish them beyond disqualifications, fines, etc. The WSMC can (and will) do a lot more because this is a very serious matter.

McLaren is going to get screwed someway, like a 2 race ban or something, i just hope its not money related cause the amount of money they spent on getting a good car for 2009 was enough work

FIA is stupid. This is overblown. If they want to start "cleaning" the category, they could start by getting rid of Bernie and his gang.

Just let it go already, give them a fine and that's it. By pressing the team the only thing they can get is Mercedes out of the competition, which is bad for everyone.

I'm not a huge fan of Lewis or McLaren, but this is unecessary IMO.

No, this isn't overblown.....I feel like I'm the only one who realises the consequences of what McLaren have done. Are you all mad? I mean McLaren tried to get another team disqualified unfairly through lying! This is the biggest joke made of the rules I have ever experienced! Not only are they making the FIA look like fools but they are also screwing over fellow teams in FOTA and laughing in the face of sportsmanship.

If they had let McLaren get away with it with minor punishment, whos to stop them doing it again? Would you feel the same if they got another driver unfairly disqualified through the same circumstances?

The FIA are more worried about Toyota leaving because of all this mess than Mercedes.

Maybe you missed my previous post Ardius, but you aren't the only one who realises how serious lying to stewards is. ;) FIA is going to whip McLaren's butt in a UFC style fashion.

I know lol, but I'm shocked anyone could think that the FIA are somehow in the wrong in this case....
