What, a bad season, and he's ready for pasture? Nobody can keep it up forever. I wouldn't count him out too soon. Yes, there are others in the forefront at the the moment, and some young blood coming up. But I don't think Tommi's over the hill yet.
I think McRae is really susceptible to the old red mist. Whenever the car is slow, or he's being challenged, he crashes. Look back at the footage of his Rally GB shunt last year, and it's really obvious that he's trying to make up some speed through the corner because the Focus has been banging off the rev limited for the last 300yds.
It seems that he's at his best when he's controlling the race, or when the chips are really down and he's just got to throw everything at it. Quite a strange boy. I remember when he went through Bunnings on Rally Australia one year. He was awesomely quick, and at the famous jumps, if anyone else had gone through them like he did they would have had an enormous accident, but somehow he kept it all together. After the stage, Nicky Grist said "I knew he was really on it. I couldn't look out of the window, because I was reading the notes. I was quite glad about that. I knew I was reading the notes really fast though."
