Has BMW not gotten the message that SUVs aren't cool anymore? I mean, I don't find it particularly ugly...but I do find it particularly pointless.

Ummmmmm.... hmmmmm.... not pretty nor ugly but absolutely pointless!

Hey! The Santa Fe's a very good looking car! :grumpy:

That is, compared to this X1, I've never understood the purpose of the X-line. It's as if BMW is doing the same as Toyota, just creating tings to have a large line-up...

It's all profiteering.
1)Get an American to design your cars
2)use him to make completely pointless niches
3)????
4)PROFIT!!

And it's working very well.

I have seen better looking cars made of solid horse ejaculate with knives sticking out of it and Jeremy Clarkson's head as a hood ornament. And on that topic, I would rather eat that rather than drive, let alone own, an X1.

:yuck: I don't want to go off-topic, but I hated the first FX, and I despise the new version. Bloated, fugly-detailed, badly-proportioned tubs of lard. I haven't seen anything that pointlessly huge outside and that surprisingly small inside in quite some time. They're hideous.

Erm, you must surely be talking about the previous FX. The current one is a dog (a pug to be exact).

lol, yeah. Sorry to disappoint you guys, but I was reffering to the Second generation one ( http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/4968/fxut7.jpg ). It's the first interesting SUV i've seen. Style looks like a concept car... aggressive with a simple flowing body shape, like a coupe. Even the interior doesn't look too bad (for an american car). It's just a wee-bit out of the ordinary... something I love to see in new cars.

Then again, I love all concept cars which people reffer to as 'ugly'. I guess I'm a futurist... :)

(And to keep on-topic) ... Except for that BMW X1 concept. That still looks like a melanoma spot.

The X-series is and always has been a throwaway. As we all know, it began as an SUV cash cow a la the Cayenne, but with all of the fuss over gas prices and fuel mileage, that couldn't last. So BMW followed the popular trend and turned it into a crossover cash cow, and because "ugly" is part of the definition of "crossover," they're using it as an outlet for their designers to unleash their wildest concoctions. That's all.

Believe me, I think this thing is stupid and ugly too, but it has nothing to do with us enthusiasts. That's what BMW's traditional model range is for. Make fun of it all you want, but complaining about this car is akin to complaining that the villain of a movie is mean. ;)

Well said. Short of someone giving me the money and putting a gun to my head, I can't see any situation in which I'd think "I know, I'll go and buy a BMW Xx".

I could see why they built the X5, the X3 was - in my eyes - a cynical marketing exercise. This looks even worse.

Still, if it allows BMW to continue to function as a company that builds cars like the M3, that's all fine by me.

Huh,what's that i see?

Is it me or do I see something similar here........ :odd:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!
Yup,there is something similar there.....but what?
Ngah, why i always forget what to say?

Wow! another one of those pointless cross-softoveroader things.............................................................................................. and its another pointless fugly BMW:yuck:

The one time I attended a BMW meet in my area, there was an older guy who showed up in a nice 318is, and he seemed pretty cool, but at one point he told us about his new X3. You could sense the discomfort in the air as we all respectfully kept our mouths shut.

Yup, that's the sort of attitude I've held since the Cayenne was announced. Just more money to drop into M GmbH's budget.

What an excellent point in time to launch yet another SUV with no apparent advantages over a more efficient saloon! Particularly when it's this ugly and doesn't actually seem to fit in anywhere. The X5 is the RR Sport/Discovery/M Class rival, the X3 is the Freelander/CR-V/GLK rival, so what's this for?
