Spent some hours today improving my netherfort, I've kinda decided to call it the Alamo but if anyone's got a better name then I'm all ears.
For those who haven't been there before, it's right above the main 'corridor' of the nether. When I first started it, I dug my way up (I wasn't using MyCraft then) looking for glowstone and got lost and eventually came to a plain and decided to build a survival fort there, I had no idea it was right above the main area, so it was awesome for me when I found out it was.
I originally made it from netherrack and it was just two rooms, one level, but since I come back I've redone the whole thing with brick and upgraded the whole area around it tremendously.
Now there's an upper floor good for arching to anywhere from, a hatch to drop back down into the kitchen, and in the kitchen there's an escape hatch for if you get mobbed by pigmen, you run to this switch and it should seal the glass wall shut behind you and keep any pigs out, then you pull the other lever and a hole on the other side of the glass opens up and the pigs will fly... down to their doom. Then there's a ladder to get back up to the fort.
Also have an area for growing crops, a coop for chickens and a brick wall to protect from ghast.
The roundish short tower near the front of the photo is where you will come up into if you use the ladder from the main area of the nether below, just before you get to the ship walkway. This tower is also ok for arching at Ghast. Ghast's cannonballs can't destroy brick.
As you can see on the right, I'm starting to build a bridge over to the other side of the room. If anyone wants to build themselves a house up here at the higher level that would be awesome, if we could get a whole village going with a couple of bridges between areas.
