Server is now outdated!

If you want to be on the server DO NOT UPDATE! Since the server and bukkit both need to be updated.

1.1 has been released

1.1 Release Notes

Minecraft version 1.1 is now officially out! Including the updates mentioned above, 1.1 has added the following features:

  • Bow Enchantments
  • Golden Apple recipe
  • New language translations.
  • Slightly smoothed color transitions between biomes
  • Reduced brewing time to 20 seconds
  • Added spawn eggs to creative (the colors of the eggs even look like the mobs)
  • Added world type options (currently only super-flat and default)
  • Removed collision box from ladders
  • Sheep eat grass and regain their wool

I'll update the server now.

*edit*

Bukkit hasn't beeen updated yet. We'll have to wait. :grumpy:

So not updating the server then?

or update and wait for bukkit?

I didn't update, and I must say I'm impressed by the enhancements while I was away.

I'd like to apply for the ability to have remote access, Dunc, if that'd be alright. Due to my different timezone I'd be able to restart the server when it's down whilst you or TJ are otherwise indisposed. No need for Admin or such, just if it would help make things easier. :)

Lemme know.

Okeydoke. Gimme 10 mins.

*edit"
Which world do you guys want me to load on to the vanilla server? Or should I just generate a new temporary world?

*edit2*
Hosted servers. Worst thing in the world. ;)

Apart from just about every main gaming server is hosted. You can only do so much hosting from home.

That and women...sophisticated things...

Each to their own I guess... ;)

Anyways. It seems there's endless problems with things like this. Let me put it in retrospect:

Lag free my 🤬

The way I see it, how do you even know what hardware is in the system unless you see it yourself.

If they were under selling they could be sued big time. Of course we don't now for sure but it's unlikely they'll rip us off.

Limited access to server features

Let me ask you this. If you're on the other side of the world, tell me how you can edit the files and programs on the server to add plugins and such?

It will actually be hosted in France as it will be a European server. I will have full ftp access to all the files and folders and be able to edit everything I want. There will also be a sophisticated control panel that will make it much easier to install and configure plugins.

And if the server crashes?

Well here's one. If it goes down, you try telling me that it'll be put back up, if you're not the one that can do it.

They advertise 99.9% Availability. Any software crashes can be dealt with by me or TJ but are going to be very unlikely on more powerful equipment. The actual server going down is even more unlikely but sometimes these things happen.

Installing plugins and such

I've actually seen hosts where you've had to get permission to install a plugin...on the server you're playing $20 a month for.

See above about ftp and control panel access.

In conclusion, hosts are great...do destroy a server.

Hosts are the ONLY viable option for a large minecraft server. I'm not paying £2000 for a server here and then an extra £40 a month to get 50meg broadband. Home servers can only take you so far. I want to go further.

Also, might I ask, what is wrong with the way things are now?

Well nothing is majorly wrong, but as I said, we are pretty much at the maximum potential that a home based system can give. We may have more players in the future (hopefully), more worlds, more plugins, it won't be feasable to do this at home.

Hope that answers your questions. :)

I found out that ANYONE using MCpatcher can just delete their Minecraft.jar and rename their Minecraft 1.0 to Minecraft and it will work.

Thats or go with the update and wait for all the other stuff to update which who knows how long it would be.

Edit: Would be easier just to run off of your minecraft 1.0 file then to update and run a vanilla server.
Also to add Playtime is completely messed up. Since there are glitched times where their not on the server but gaining time. (Plugin should be removed)

Any reason why the Minecraft update is downloading at 12kbps? I'm on a bloody 30mb connection! :grumpy:

And yeah I reckon a temporary world would be the best.

I'm gonna look for an interesting one online that we can first expore, then blow the crap out of! :D

Also people that do use Mycraft may not be able to fly (From reports of problems)
If this is the case then looks like running and digging would be the way to go

Also if you do update and use Mycraft it will say you have an incompatible mod (Which is Mycraft) Since there are no other mods that would be installed.

So I update first, or?

*mega awesome replies to a crappy argument*

Hope that answers your questions. :)

Not questions, statements. I still have no faith in hosts, but do as you wish. :)

Also that post about my request has seemed to have gone un-noticed...hehehehe...

I didn't see any post...

First world is called Mistral City and will be up in two mins. :)

From what it looks like Update now and play on the temp world while we wait for bukkit.

No I was talking about keeping my mods after updating. Sorry about that.

Depends on what mods you have. Some are already updated to 1.1

Edit: I call fumblemores tower!

Ah, so far they haven't updated Planemod or Superslopes. I wish we wouldn't have to wait for mods to be updated when Minecraft does.

Dunc I need my ops!

I need my god mode so I dont get blown up by creepers
