I almost wouldn't mind going back to the start, and building a better world.
I agree with this. I would at least like a new world when 1.8 comes out to be able to experience everything it has to offer. And with a little more planning, we might end up with a better way to link everyone's cities and buildings with a common type of connection, be it rail or path or whatnot. And we might find a way to have a less cluttered spawn. The buildings there now are fine, but they are a bit scattered willy-nilly.

Not to say anything about how you're running the server Dunc, but I feel like as far as server construction goes, we're not all on the same page, and it would be nice to have a really well laid out city for spawn, with specified plots of land to build on towards the middle, and less fixed rules for suburb areas around it.

Any thoughts?

Yeah, I always feel that a nice grid is good enough in the centre, and then further out it gets more chaotic, but with strict 2 block roads in between plots.

We should try and let the city grow naturally though. I mean, I don't want to start a new map and 2 days later there is a perfectly flat, laid-out area of land to build on.

True. It shouldn't be all laid out from the start, but some guidelines would be nice. It would be best if we could still preserve the landscape, and just build around it and over it, gradually growing as needed. But it's all up to Dunc.

Ah well, there goes countless hours of work on my 4 houses, and the pub. Meh, it's for the best though I suppose. How bad would it have been if 4 months down the track, when the world if a few gigs in size for it to go corrupt and have to revert to pre-explosion.

The only problem is placement and time. I mean lots of time. Dunc would need to find landscape that is good For our homes or we would have to do some landscaping. If we could find the bad spots and replace them it'd be great.

There were quite a few field/plains biomes surrounded by interesting areas on the current world. I don't see why we couldn't find something similar if we made a new one.

Or maybe if we could find out the seed number for our world it'd be great. Then we would be able to recreate our world and then have the new features of 1.8 installed.

But the 1.8 patch might have a completely different landscape generator to allow for the new stuff, so even with the same seed we might have almost none of the same landscape.

I saw the pictures and they seemed like the generator so far but what interests me is the second image notch released. I can't wait for the update but then again it would change so many worlds. It is true some parts would be changed for the houses, new dungeons, and the big mushrooms.

I guess we play the waiting game...which im starting to get bored of these waiting games... lol

Well, on the MC forums it says that notch said he wants to release 1.8 next week.

Here's a suggestion. Stop making suggestions and just continue with the world. We get all the new stuff if we just travel a long way out. Just suggesting that, along with my suggestion of to stop making suggestions. Unless you suggest for me to stop suggesting my suggestion of to stop suggestions, then I will listen to your suggestion, and reply with a suggestion that will probably quote your suggestion, and completely pwn your suggestion, and my suggestion will rule the suggestive world.

Dunc, how big is the current map?
Maybe it can be placed online somewhere so people can download it.
I would very like to export the dish and some other things.

edit: just a thought. Could the lightning storm be the cause of the corruption?
I once had a big save that Cartograph couldn't convert. Can't recall what the possible cause was.

Can we somehow create two worlds with /world 1, 2, or 3 etc. I have seen it on some servers. World 1 could be a new, 1.8 world, and world 2 could be our current world, as it stands. People could keep building on either one, as a lot of us don't want to lose our special places. For example my Secret Hideout. For about a 400 block radius is special and part of that area, and to import it into a new map would ruin it.

Good idea :)

Hey, sorry for my dummy spit before. Wasn't really in a good mood :|

With the 1.8 update, I say let it be though. Gives us a brand new playing field. As for the town, Dunc has the ability to flatten large areas of land, we could find an idea biome and just flatten enough area to start a small village, with possible paths leading off to more areas. (not too far away of course).

I haven't read or seen anything on 1.8 (on purpose). Waiting for the surprise when it comes out. Anyone know the date? I heard the 26th-28th and it's the 26th today (where I am currently).

As for the server corruption, it's most likely the NPC plugin conflicting with the cartograph. I doubt the TNT corrupted the file, as you still had main functionality of the computer.

Another, which has been suggested, possibility would be, as you said, the map has become too large, maybe even due to the TNT.

As for the file size, maybe put it on Megaupload or rapidshare, and set up a GTP account we can log on to, that will allow people to download it.

Just went on a minute ago and the server was seriously :censored:ed up. My arm (and whatever i was holding) was invisible, and to view my health/inventory bar I had to either open my full inventory, view chat or go to sleep...

EDIT: F1...
