How 'bout this:
When 1.0 comes, out, we make a backup of the entire server, and save it externally. Then, restart the server from scratch (with bukkit and stuff as well, it'd be a little bit of work, but worth it, listen on...) and have it purely survival for a few months. I mean, purely, purely survival. Not one single spawned shovel, pick, anything. Since we're going to delete the 1.8 world anyway (1.0 requires new world generation) I thought this would be kinda cool. Then when we're all getting bored of it, bring back Rapture and have it like it is now (with the 1.0 world in place of the 1.8 world)
I know I would (and presumably many others) have a lot of fun with that. I've always been a miner but since 1.8, I've taken a shine to adventuring (also, I need to practice my adventuring skills for YouTube, since most people on YT don't like seeing me dig coal all day). And with friends and backup is the best way to do it.
When I play SinglePlayer, I don't use anymore than Iron armor. During the day, doing normal activities, gathering above ground resources, getting wood, building, doing basic mining etc, I use Leather armor only. Once I start adventuring at night, going into caves and ravines, I use iron armor. Diamond armor is too rare to make armor with, and it's not really the most practical (even though it gives a lot of protection, I go through armor like it's water through my hands, so it's not practical for me). So, I need to get my fighting and adventuring skills tuned so I don't die all the time for my YT LP.
A lot of the armor that is around the Rapture world at the moment has been spawned in (I have about 10 full suits of diamond armor that I use around the server, and now that I'm VIP I can repair them, so I'm thinking I might give them away, that's going to be in another post and thread anyways). Anyway, for people who find tons of diamond legitimately, fair enough. I also think a few of our mods should be removed for this period of time, and re-implemented after we're all bored of survival. A list:
- /repair
- MC1200 or whatever it is, the one where we can spawn cows and annoy the hell out of everyone (MOOOOO)
- ...more stuff, and I'll think about it and edit this post.
Even though this is what we decided on in the first place, a month or so ago, I have realized that people can simply go to the rapture world, ask for stuff, and then TP back to the 1.0 world and put it in their chests. If we delete the other world (BUT SAVE IT FOR LATER!!!!!) than things would be a bit stricter and better in the long run (more legit)
I know this will take quite a bit of work on Dunc and Vic's part, as well as it adjusting to the community should this be decided apon. You can never keep everyone happy. If you don't like this idea, and everyone else does, don't come crying to me, Dunc, Vic, or anyone else. If you say "I hate this idea so much, I'm not going to play on the server till you all are not stuipid blablabla I hate you blablabla I'm not gonna play blablabla nyan cat is lame blablabla notch has no beard etc etc" well that's your own problem. Your loss
I think this may help the server improve it's status and bring more players forth, as the majority are waiting for the 1.0 update as it is.
