There are also physical servers, which aren't just PC's with a server program running.
Plus you could run a virtual Server OS(one made for minecraft server hosting), give some CPU cores and memory to the virtual OS, and share your internet connection from the OS to the Virtual Server OS. Plus remote access could also be added.
