Host *shudders*

On another note, my new computer will be arriving soon (ordering it tonight), so I'll be seen a lot more on the server (should be here in about a week or 2). Quick rundown on specs since everyone likes to hear that (apparently):

AMD FX-4100 Quad Core CPU
8GB Kingston 1600MHz RAM
ASUS Radeon 6770 Video Card
500GB HDD

Me thinkiths me shall gets mega FPS with those specs.

Sounds pretty close to our PC here! I run advanced shaders though and average a nice steady 31fps online.

I don't know where you got this misconception about hosts from. ALL large MineCraft servers are hosted. What other way of doing it is there other than a dedicated host?

Bold statement ,saying that all large MC servers are hosted. And as for another way...well...we're doing that already. It's just my opinion, sooner or later something major will go wrong, and our hard work etc will be lost forever/plagiarized.

Hell, as soon as I get my new system ordered and put together I would be happy to host anything...

BOLD statement saying that a hosted a solution will be epic fail....

Not really a bold statement either. Servers are either hosted or run off a home machine. A home broadband connection cannot handle more than about 20 users.

I have something like that and manage 70-200 fps...

Regarding system specs, my girlfriend has a laptop of similar spec to those posted on the last page and when running Minecraft there isn't much difference between that and my 3 year old iMac! Minecraft doesn't really use a lot of resources unless you're running a few things at once.

^^ That's what I have. 6770, just branded by ASUS with an aftermarket cooler (not a particularly good one, but it does the job better than the stock reference card cooler)

EDIT: @Moglet, so you mean to tell me that your girl has a laptop that has a quad core FX processor, and a 6770 card (or near enough to those specs)...

What. The. 🤬. HOW MUCH DID THAT COST!?!? Did you have to sell a kidney!?!? Specs like those in a laptop machine cost a FORTUNE...

I get a constant 30+fps on my laptop with an E-450 APU and 4GB of Ram.

I've never really looked into my FPS on MineCraft. I'll take a look when I get home.

Running a Q6600, 4GB RAM. 1GB GTX550Ti.

Sounds good! In a month or so I'm purchasing a Lenovo IdeaPad with the A-300 and 4Gb RAM, it's only a small processor clock difference, doesn't matter to me when it looks so damn cool!. What graphics settings do you use? :D

Your one should be more powerful. It manages it very well with everything on full. It works better when plugged in because the power management software clocks the CPU down to save power (10 hour battery life FTW :D). And it has a turbo mode for the GPU.

Sounds good then! At the moment I am using my friend's PC, running an AMD Phenom II Black 955 3.2GHz quad core, 8Gb DDR3 and a 1Gb HD5850...and that seems overkill for Crysis :dopey:

Well I'm not that up on my processor or graphics card names but she said it's got the following in an Alienware:

2.0Ghz Intel i7 Quad Core (8CPU)
8gb RAM
3GB NVIDIA GeForce GT555M

I actually have no idea if that's as good or not, I'm a console gamer. It's a £1,800 laptop but she didn't pay for it. The joys of working in the games industry :p Battlefield 3 runs at full settings without a single bit of slowdown. I love using it for FPS games and we're going to hook it up to our 40" LED television to play some games soon 👍

The funny thing is, even when I'm using 100% of both CPU cores, the processor doesn't hot. The hard drive gets hot first, then the ram and then the battery if its on charge. CPU stays cool which is the complete opposite of my old laptop.

I have a good idea to get us all building again. Let's make a CONTINUOUS subway system that goes in a loop (but it is really large) that goes around Thorncombe, Rapture, basically everywhere in the server. Venturi, Highbury, etc. It's UNDERGROUND like an NYC subway style type of railway system that has minecart trains going on a loop over and over again, they don't stop, and you have to wait for the minecart to pass, right click to go on, and such. So we have the universal subway system for Rapture and Strawberry. If you want to know what I'm talking about, refer to this video.

It's like that, but it is an endless cycle of minecarts around the WHOLE worlds with signs saying what the next stop is so you know when to get out, I see this as a better way than the current rail system, and I think it looks more neat and cool. Now, I can't get on MC for a bit, but you guys can start on this if you want and we can spawn (maybe) items if we need it. What do you guys think?

EDIT: Just in case of misunderstanding, the Minecart system is separate for both worlds. We have one MC system in Rapture World, and another in Strawberry.

We Kind of already have one Skilla!

Just did a test, it seems to hover around 150-160fps.

*edit*
I think minecraft.net is down. :grumpy:

I meant one that looks more... realistic and subway-ish. And not to mention the system doesn't go in a loop and have automatic minecarts running the whole time, okay fine it's your own server anyway. :indiff:

Ah I see. I wasn't saying don't do it. By all means go a head! Sounds like a good project.

How will people digging know if they're breaking rock - or actually part of the subway?.

There's a new test version of MC out now, new jungle biome (among other things), but when we do move to the next full version, jungles will not generate in our current worlds (it brings a new tree type), people are raging a little about this, but I figure that secretly they are preparing to add a new kind of weather - fog/mist! (more lag?). I was going to speculate this at the MC forums but you have to sign up to spammy looking stuff (Curse Account) instead of a regular forum account like the rest of the world.

By the way, has anyone seen a Magma Cube in the nether since the last update? They were made rarer again but damn I've spent over 3 hours waiting/searching and haven't seen one lately, I've cleared an area of the main nether hall and laid netherbrick down, hopefully I can get one to spawn there.

The subway's have glass walls so it should be easy to spot if you hit one.

When we move to the host we can generate a new world.

Gonna pop on the server now to see if I can get on with no hassles, see what's new. Damn my Mac's heating problems...

A.... 3rd world? :sly:

Perhaps another question, is anyone going to put the bubble world to good use?
Is it going to be a problem having a whole bunch of worlds? I was worried this will be a resource drain is all. Not sure how many worlds the new host will allow us.

Actually it will be the 6th!

The best thing to do is set up some easy to use portals to travel between them.
