The subway's have glass walls so it should be easy to spot if you hit one.
Smart that is (-:

I was thinking that a subway would be composed of cobble - at least the tube part :dunce:

^^ Still, if you're digging underground and hit cobble it's one of 3 things:

1: Dungeon
2: Lava and Water
3: User placed block (obviously someone elses and you shouldn't dig it anyway).

Also, we've crashed again Dunc. I'm starting to think more highly of hosts...at least someone is on it immediately she goes down.

Yeah....that....I wrote that in the wrong way. I mean like, you have a life to lead, I have a life to lead, we all have lives to lead and can't be on call 24/7 just to restart a server. Hence why I'm thinking more highly of hosts, less work for you, and a quicker response time whilst you are otherwise indisposed.

I don't think anything was lost, we both lost connection about 2 minutes prior to the full crash, which refreshed the 'save' on our inventories.

Sorry I couln't get on, Enki. My CPU was being too weird. Plus I found a big bit of bubble wrap which kept me amused for 3/4 of an hour.

No, it should be like the video I showed, dark and tunnel, kind of like a real subway. It should seem like that so that riders will get a more realistic feel instead of seeing a glass outline with some glowstone. Also, you could make a region following the track with something like "DQSubway System" that follows the track so there's no griefing of the minecarts, or digging in it. It also goes about 30 blocks below surface so we don't pass through basements. And the stops have to be made out of stone slabs, bricks, wool, or whatever, but no cobble. Wood works if it is like a wooden village (AKA - Highbury) and if it's a large city like Venturi, it should be out of stone slabs/bricks and have check-in gates and pictures for an authentic feel. In fact, I'll list the station theme for all cities.

  • Rapture - Stone brick station, some pictures, station gates recommended

Thorncombe - Wood/brick/slabs combo, some pictures, etc

Spawn tower - Any theme (no cobble)

Any other villages I missed - Use any you want

    STRAWBERRY

Highbury - Wooden station, no check in gates

Venturi - Glass, slabs, bricks, pictures, kind of like a modern NYC Subway, PLUS check in gates

The other village close to Highbury - Wooden, with check in gates

Any other villages I missed, use the theme that fits the most

And we can also use the railway station at Strawberry as a good main Grand Central Station type of thing. I'd prefer to keep the underground theme, though, but we can use the station as a starting zone. For Rapture, spawn tower gets another floor below that is the subway system.

Oh, and no cobble for the stations, just the outline of the tunnel systems (IF WE NEED IT) and we should just dig out the tunnels, keep it natural. The only light source are redstone torches and have signs saying what station is next (maybe 3 or 4 just in case you miss the one before) and have them lit by torches/glowstone above it. So because of the darkness, the tunnel won't need to be made to look good. And since we might pass through some caves/ravines, we would make it outlined with glass so no one falls and have maybe an exit door just in case someone wants to mine there. This project may take days/weeks/months, but maybe if we have a lot of people helping, it can work!

Edit - Maybe Dunc can also use World Edit to make the walls bricks, smooth stone, etc. (Or anyone that is permitted to do so.) And I can go on MC in about 6 hours, so I can start if you want!

There's a mod called optifine which can get rid of the darkness at bedrock level (and also the dustbunnies), and has a bunch of other graphic related options, and it doesn't conflict with MyCraft.
Here's the installation video, hyperlink is in the description.

You may have to retoggle the 'Depth Fog' setting when you start the game each time.

I already use this with MyCraft :D it does solve a lot of issues and can enhance the game a lot

Haha, I've been using OptiFine since I think Beta 1.2. It pwns. Compatibility is a bit hard with other mods (dosn't work with water mod, better than wolves, and some others), but if you're running Vanilla and want awesome FPS etc, then this mod is for you.

Thanks for leaving me stuck with the bedrock fog all this time.

Also, I don't get why powered minecarts don't work, is it an SMP bug?

And how do I get that glass block/glowstone lamp/redstone trick to work? does it only work for admins?

I've suggested OptiFine to you a few times, you weren't interested.

They work, lag makes minecarts a bit finky funky, so I suggest just using your fly mod to sprint to where you need to get too (just point your cursor a bit to the ground to stay on the ground).

I can't help here, but no, it works for everyone. Go dig one up in Thorncombe to work out how it works, just make sure you put it back.

The server has been really quiet of late.

Are people still interested in it? I don't want to spend money on a host if it will be empty all the time.

Yes Dunc. We just all have our reasons for not being on as of late, but will certainly be back soon. I can't get on due to a CPU overheating problem. I know Nick can't get on since he's a bit bored of Minecraft as a whole, but that will change soon. I suspect a few people are waiting to go to host, but I promise at least I will be back in a week or so.

Actually, I might go in now to check things out, I've got a water cooled airconditioner that I sit next to that cools the CPU and helps draw away heat, it's not 100% effective but it'll have to do the job for now.

I dug up a lamp post rig in thorncombe and made one identical, mine doesn't work, perhaps I'm doing it at the wrong time of day, or assembling the parts in the wrong order.

This thread is very dead and has been for a few days. Here's my attempt to revive it:

Izak and Beep. We love to bicker. Spongey burns things.

Post about pointless post is also pointless ^

This one isn't, because I have a question, are we allowed to show people around the server?

I know you have to build the lamp post first with fence and glowstone

you place 1 redstone next to the fence and then 1 redstone torch
you tap the glowstone with another redstone torch and the glowstone should go to glass, then you should have a working lamp.

After you do get it working you can place a redstone torch 2 blocks under the pole and have a block above it of the same nature as the rest to blend in.

It doesnt help when people start making their own servers either...
I would probably suggest holding off on the hosted server until the numbers increase, if not then maybe it is time just to dump the whole thing and have people do what they want.

Pointless pointlessness is pointless.

Now that I have that contribution out of the way... I'm still interested in the server, but I haven't been able to get on because of exam revision, so after the 27th (or after the inevitable hangover!) you may actually see me on Minecraft. :)

Oh, and hello everyone who has joined since Christmas haha.

I'm still interested too! I've just been busy with terrible shifts at work and all that...and I need to get my new laptop too
