The most power I've seen demonstrated out of an A series was a turbocharged 225hp car. It was *insane* when the car came on boost... talk about torque steer!
"needs a oil cooler though otherwise trouble will insue." The ones I've seen in Mini mags have oil coolers, auxiliary radiators, intercoolers, etc, etc. Under the bonnet it looks like just a mass of piping and lines this way and that. Not a neat install, but they must go like hell. Then again, an A series producing that much power is going to need to be torn down probably once a year or so... just crazy power. That's why I'm goin with the B series Honda approach. Same (or more) power, and Honda gearbox + Honda reliability. ...well, of course with Mini cool wrapped around it.
I was even thinking of painting the whole engine block + valve cover in MOWOG green and getting an "AUSTIN" engine tag riveted to the valve cover, along with the "WARNING: Vehicle is wired Negative Ground" plate.
GT3 I think went to 180hp. All in all not bad. Just had to play around with the gearing to get any acceleration out of it.
