If anyone's thinking of anwering my earlier question (about ASM/TCS settings) please don't cos I just passed this mission. Sheesh, I feel for you NTSC lot...

Here is how I did it:

Couple grass shortcuts and hit the wall sideways a few times (saved by the hand brake to make it side and not front impact)...

You don't need all that code - just the video reference (the last 10 or 11 characters). I've edited it for you.

i have finally done this mission (won by 0.4 sec) with a couple of grass cuts and a wall ride. i dont think i could have done it with-out those. but anyways 100% and now i will work on the golds. once that is done i may try and go back to the mission and get it with-out the aid of grass and walls.

thanks to all the tips on this site, They are extremely helpful.

BTW that black f1 car is nice.

this one is going to take a while. as i make this post, the count down is starting again. and as of this post, ive never seen the first place car.

maybe im driving too agreesively, but, i wish they had balanced the car a little more towards front end grip.

I would say your corner entry speed is to high if you are complaining of lack of front end grip.
Try braking earlier which will allow you to turn in earlier and power out of the corner and have a higher speed at the end of the straights.

I still haven't completed this mission (only thing between me and the black FGT car).

LAst night, I was doing the lap of my life, could win with some cushion, but I lost control of the car on the big brake from the long straight, wobbled for a while (not spinning), scraping walls and stuff, and ended up behind the 300SL by 0.3secs. Still, my best lap ever. :D

The only reason I believe I haven't won this mission already is because of the bloody countdown. It annoys and bores me (and almost everyone), and I can't do the mission twice in a row. And end up only trying again after a week or so...

EDIT: FINALLY DID IT!!!

Free beers on the house! Boy, that black F1 sure is beautiful.

Which, of course, I can:

(full IP address obscured for your safety)

And yet, funnily as I've just shown, you share TWO exact IP addresses with italianboy4life, from different hosting companies. If it was just the one, your explanation may hold some merit, but it isn't.

Now, let us deal with the next problem you've brought up...

You live in, and go to school in, and English-speaking province of a primarily English-speaking country. You agreed to these terms and conditions when you signed up this account (the one with a registration IP that matches italianboy4life's posting IP exactly, and a posting IP which matches italianboy4life's registration IP exactly).

Please re-read the rules, and have a long, hard think about how you want to continue on GTPlanet, before your next post.

It is bad netiquette to not respect someone's privacy. If you wish to post stuff like this in a forum like this, it would be better of done privately, via PM. Also, have you considered the fact that his school/network may have changed ISPs?

I know that you or him will probably not respond as this is fairly old, but I was wondering why you responded like you did.

[ontopic]

I have been trying this mission non-stop, (actually just practice with a stock SLR) and can only achieve a 7:23 on the Ring (about 18 seconds too slow).

I can't find out anything I'm doing wrong... Any general tips that make it alot easier? Thanks...

1. You may not be aware of the full story behind this.
2. Famine is a moderator and as proper members try to keep this forum honest and clean it unfortunately sometimes needs some harsh policing. If everyone here kept their noses clean by following the AUP this wouldnt be necessary. Let it serve as a warning for other would be 'liars'.
3. He wasn't snooping as in your example, he was doing his job as a mod. Be it that it is probably not one of the nicer parts of the job.
-----------

You may want to consider running all Nurb races you can find in this game for max A spec points and revisiting licences that deal with the Nurb. I found that it helped me a lot and the only thing I then needed to master was the SLR. Braking early was key to this mission. Following above advice I was pleasantly suprised that it took me approx 0.5 hour to beat this mission.
I wish you the best in passing M34.

AMG.

It is bad netiquette to not respect someone's privacy.

Which is precisely why I obscured all but the first chain of his IP addresses and all but the final two characters and domain of his ISP.

If you wish to post stuff like this in a forum like this, it would be better of done privately, via PM.

This was a particularly aggressive member and required a similarly aggressive approach. Not content with serial lying, he progressed very quickly to threats and allegations of racism.

Also, have you considered the fact that his school/network may have changed ISPs?

Yes, however the IPs were not time-dependant. They were used interchangeably, indicating that the physical location didn't change IPs from one to the other, but that the member(s) changed between physical locations.

You'll also note that at no point did I level any specific accusations - merely implied that I thought both accounts were the same individual. This later proved to have some merit in a quite hilarious PM exchange, where I had the Calgary Board of Education set on me for "hacking".

It's far better to do nothing and let liars like these fill up our forum with garbage and meaningless nonsense. Guys which by the way are very polite... NOT.

Maybe that's why you ask of quick tips to get around this mission. Because you found (like me) that it's almost impossible to read the whole thread and find decent help because of the piles of BS guys like that throw in.

On topic: I've already provided as much help as I could. Just read my post, and watch my video. If you can find them in the thread...

I do not know you, but most likely, no matter what I say will change your opinion, and I respect that. Just think about it next time. (PS: I'm new here so sorry.) (edit says I should read your post. You did PM him and I guess it is quite funny :))

I think you should also know it's actually not that hard for someone to figure out an exact IP and link it to an account if they aren't a moderator. But there's not much one can do with an IP, anyways.

BTW: I got a 7:17 on nurb....

Man I'm never going to get this done... Is there no way for me to send it to you? I'm playing of a PS3, so I could try to copy it and someone could give me tips? The places where I take a specific bad turn do not account for more than 15 seconds... I only do it like once a race, and I'm pretty sure it's my general driving technique.

I read gamefaqs, and I heard of trailbraking, but I have no idea what this is (is it braking before turning, then accelerating through the turn, or doing nothing through the apex and then accelerating past the apex?

Also, does anyone have any good settings for the SLR in mission 34? It is quite a bit different, and alot more slidey.

I hope I can win. Thanks.

Dude, you shouldn't oughta come in here on your second or third post and start telling people who run the place how they should act. Famine, a well-known and well-respected moderator, and (I think) the #1 post king of the site, was making a public example of someone who asked for it, and even quoted the person asking for it.

Have at it. PM me my IP, or PM Famine his.

Ah, now we get to the mission. At the risk of sounding like a bit of a wanker, all your questions are discussed earlier in the thread. Maybe trailbraking isn't, come to think of it, but it's easy to find help with that, too.

Most people who can't do the ring have the same problem: too much speed into the corners. You feel like you have to keep your speed up, you can't afford to slow down, but burning into a turn costs you exit speed, and exit speed is where you get the speed you need on the straight parts. If you're 5 MPH slow coming out of a turn, you're 5 MPH slow at every point in time till the next application of brakes. It adds up.

Generally brake sooner than you do now, EVERYWHERE. The car cannot be manhandled through the turns. If it's sliding, it's slowing down.

Good Luck ES, it was some time since I made this but I think that Uncle Harry:s advice sounds right, I was on and off this one for weeks before I managed to get it right over a whole lap, check out my gallery for some split times and places where I made the overtakings. (You find it under "My massive headache" in post #1)

I could easily PM you your IP, it would take me a couple of minutes to come up with the PHP script though.

I can tell you what it does, and if you still don't believe me, then I'll make the script I guess.

OK, so here goes:

First, you make a dummy image. Something that's non-conspicuous (like an avatar) or something that is invisible (an image 1x1 pixel wide that contains one transparent pixel randomly in the post).

You generate the image with PHP, similar to how those dynamic sigs are being generated (heh, I'm working on some GT:HD ranking sigs that will be available to the public soon :)).

Now, this is the part that takes effort, is to make a database table or a file to store EVERY SINGLE IP and the current time that the IP is recorded (PHP allows you to do this). Once you finish doing this, then you simply look at the time a member posts, and your image will load just after (if he returns to the thread).

If he doesn't view the image, then you may be wrong. But I doubt that he won't view the image.

The reason I won't do it to you:
- It may be considered hacking, and I don't want to get in trouble
- I respect your privacy
- I'm too lazy to look through these IPs to simply prove a point to you.

Like I said earlier, I apologize "attacking" your moderator (I was so new that I thought he used this method that I posted to get those IP's and then he did this).

Also, I didn't know Famine was a moderator (yes I was that new and oblivious, most forums have "super moderator" as a tag, but this one has an image), and I hope I didn't get off on the bad foot with you guys.

For the actual mission 34:

I did a bit of what you were saying, and it did help quite a bit! I reduced my original time by quite a bit to 7:10 on practice. You could really tell the difference with the ghost and how I had much more exit speed than it.

Thanks!

You're absolutely correct. My only qualm was that it should either have:
-been done by PM
-all offending posts removed/pruned

Hey, but it's not my forum, and I have no reason to complain, just a reason to beat Mission 34. I'll look up your vids.

Okay, I've gone through pages and pages of this thread and I'm sorry, but I quit... One thing I've noticed about this test is that the SLR handles completely different in the mission test than when you buy it stock...

Does anyone know what settings I need to make this thing handle identically?

Yeah I'm asking the same thing. Let me search on those tuning sites :)

Okay, I think I have it, but I need other opinions. Take your stock SLR and put N3 tires on it. Let me know if it's similar. It feels that way to me, but I'm not 100%

With all the people on here saying that PD will not have car damage because the car makers think that they want their cars to be real like.

With that being said does anyone think that Mercedes is happy with this mission.I mean when you first start the mission it says the car drives like crap.

Speaking of non sequitor. . .

I don't think that's quite how it says it. My game is at home, my eyes are at work, so I can't check.

There's something about the tires in that setup text, so I don't see how Mercedes could have a problem.

it says something like "equipped with sport tires, the SLR will drive like a fish out of water" or something to that effect

edit: i really started practicing this mission yesterday and my best is just over 5 seconds behind. God please let me pass the 300SL

i am good at the ring for the first 3/4 until the section after karoussel where everything goes to hell. does anyone have any tips for that specific section.

ps i double posted so someone would notice
