MW2 was 600p upscaled on the PS3 and I believe 640p on the 360; MW3 is likely to be the same/similar.

It is definitely not native 1080 because in the PC version unless you set "image quality" to 'native' it renders at 1280x720 (or less!) then upscales it to your display resolution...

Well that's just them being lazy. Hopefully BF3 gives them a really good run for their money, and they put some effort into the graphics for the next one. It's kind of like how Madden is now. When you think you have no competition, you start just not even trying.

Fun facts!

BF3: sold 5m copies in it's launch *week*
MW3: sold 9.3m copies on it's launch *day*

Keep in mind: this post is not about hate towards BF3. It's merely about the numbers. I've taken a look at BF3 and it's not bad.

Wow, that CRUSHED Black Ops's records:
Wikipedia
Within 24 hours of its release, Black Ops had sold a combined total of 5.6 million units in the US and UK market, surpassing that of Modern Warfare 2 and establishing a new record for largest entertainment launch

I know. MW is king, I think that's part of the problem with it. If they had some competition, we wouldn't get sub HD resolution and a max of 720p on the PC. Like I said before, it's kind of like how Madden is. when your the top dog and no one else can compete then why even try. If you could see how BF3 looks maxed out on the PC you would see what I mean. It looks amazing, possiblythe best looking game to date. It looks that way because they have something to prove. I'm not trying to turn this into a BF3 vs MW3 by any means. You could also use a number of games to campare the graphics of MW3 with and it is far behind.

You would think that a company that sells 9.3m titles on launch day, would make a better looking game then anyone else. You see textures popping up in the game all the time. The gameplay is great and all, but the game looks terrible compared to other games that have been released in the last few years.

I don't want to be a COD hater, but I'm just greatly dissapointed in the Graphics and lack of any effort at all for the PC version. This is suppose to be the best game there is, and it certainly doesn't even come close to looking like it.

As far as sales go,you can't honestly tell me that MW3 looks better then most of the new games coming out. If sales determined how good a game was, It would blow every other game away, and no one could even argue that any other game compares to the looks of MW3. Uncharted, BF3, oblivion, the witcher 2, would all pail in comparison, but in reality they all look much better.

Rant over,

Crysis, looking better than all games since 2007. Obviously MW3 was going to sell more copies, it is the arcade game of FPS shooters, aimed at younger audiences and is the product of massive hype and big money advertisement. BF only really became a big name franchise after BC2.

Either way, MW3 is a repackage of MW2 with some new maps and some tweaks, graphics are the same and the gameplay style is the same. It is a formula that works but to be honest it isnt surprising that it scored so bad in reviews on average as it is in no way innovating, low quality graphics and weak sounds.

But, like in racing games the arcade game is more friendly to a bigger audience and with the support of massive hype and advertising campaigns it isnt surprising that MW3 outsold BF3 and I don't think anybody expected otherwise.

MW3 is arguably the biggest release of the year. Yet it is the only release that hasnt made a leap forward in graphical technology. The Original Crysis of 4 years ago still looks better in every single aspect, Crysis 2 made leaps with its engine and BF3 has made some awesome improvements (BC2 already looked better than MW2, and still looks better than MW3, atleast on PC). Graphical development isnt the end of the world though and a game doesn't need it to be good, but we come to expect graphical advancement and to not see it from the biggest game release of the year when its main competitor has done in a big way, it is a disapointment and it shouldn't happen.

I finally earn the Juggernaut Recon with the Support Kit, throw it down, and get killed by some guy, spawn back, kill him, right as I'm taking the Care Package, some are teammate STEALS IT!!!!!!!! 🤬

You're surprised why exactly?

Don't use care package-based streaks and your teammates can't steal them 👍

I used a care package once in this game. I was shot in the ass trying to get it. My team mate got it, it was an osprey gunner. My connection dropped out after that so I didn't even get to see it in action.

On a side-note: who else got this already? :D

I believe it's because the London level is showing 2 pieces of intel first and then 1 more piece after you leave the tube - so it's 3 instead of 2 whilst it's still the same level. Just a wild guess but well, internet confirmed it!

Isn't that only 18 kills? That's do-able, even for a slouch like me . I've gotten a couple more Attack Helicopters and am working on getting Gold camo for my SCAR because I don't see much worth using right now.

Xbox 360: anyone up for Spec Ops / Survival on Friday / Saturday? EU people preferred due to time zones. :)

Here's a quick quiz for you guys:

Nice work haha. I finished the game on hardened and I think it says I'm only 77% or something like that.

Hey, people that know me from MW2, give me the low down on how this compares. I don't feel like sifting through 500 posts.

You know you want to :sly:

Also, Sharky, what platform are you playing this on?

PC. I wanted to try something different this time around, even if the game is better on console.

No offense but I find Crysis(1 and 2) too very arcadey I see some of your points but does every COD have to make technologicall advancments in graphics? I think part of the deal is IW? sledghammer ddint want to change the ''Feel of COD games'' Its like I have posted before would you want Streetfighter to feel like Mortal Kombat? Or Tekken to feel like Dead or Alive? or best one yet GT5 to feel like Forza. There are alot of companies that played it safe Batman AC is running on the same engine and look at all the FPS around except for a few none of them really make any strides ( there are a couple though)IW played it real safe this year but at the same time the experience and gamplay is like butter now. I do agree that they need to do something new to spice things up for the next itteration but for now. I think they did a good job .

No... not every Call of Duty has to make advancements in graphics... but you know what... its been 4 games since there was any advancement. They are limited by what consoles can do for the most part, but given how much money they are bringing in each year I find it hard to believe that they cant find a few dollars and a few minutes to go ahead and give the PC version just a little bit of extra love to look and feel like a game that was made in the last 3 years.

MW2 vs. MW3:

MW3 has slightly better graphics

The campaign in MW3 feels a lot like the campaign in MW2, but in a good way, if you played through MW2 then went straight to MW3 you'd be picking it up directly where you left off.

Multiplayer:

MW3 probably wins on this one. It's had a good redo. But I don't like "unlocking" guns, I like Black Ops' way of purchasing them with credits. It also suffers from huge differences between guns. When you pick it up you'll get hammered because you'll be stuck with a metaphorical BB gun compared to some of the higher-end MGs.

Spec Ops & Survival:

Good all-around fun. That's it. Survival reminds me of B.O.'s zombies. With Spec Ops you're just playing on the same maps you go through the campaign on, like MW2.

Overall, if you like COD in general, you can't go wrong with this one.

It also seems stupid that dedicated servers are only for unranked matches on PC.
Tell me about it :grumpy:

Visually it's the same. Gameplay is vastly superior in my opinion - in particular nothing seems immediately overpowered, noobtubes are a non-event and the new killstreak system is great. Maps are terrible though.

Think MW2 without the BS, more variety in what weapons people use and a better killstreak system and you're pretty much there.

COD4/MW2 map files found in MW3: http://mp1st.com/2011/11/10/cod-4-and-mw2-map-files-found-in-modern-warfare-3/

Crash, Crossfire, Highrise, Strike and Overgrown placeholder load screen files were found in the PC installation, so there's a glimmer of hope when it comes to the terrible maps. Disappointed there's no Countdown or Scrapyard in there though :(

I respect your comment I can understand a bit how that is frustrating if you are primarilly a PC Gamer. They do make tons of money But I just want tight gameplay graphics are important to me ( im looking at you GT5 Standard cars) but Gameplay trumps it 9 out of ten times. Maybe I feel like this because I dont always pick up a new COD on release week I usually wait a couple of months.( Heck because of GT5 I didnt pick up black ops till this past summer lol) Maybe thats why I feel different this time.

The P90M1 or whatever you call it is amazing I have it with a silencer, blind eye, assassin, and sitrep, and a silenced machine pistol, the second one I think. It's not the P90. It's good for rushing around though, I think I might have extreme conditioning, I don't know though.

Just finished the Campaign and I must say, WOW! No game has made me hate a character more than Markorov.

I think I cried a little when Soap died, as well as Sandman, Truck, and Grinch. Then when Yuri died it got me even more angry! I enjoyed killing Markorov, I just wished it would have been more gruesome. Make him pay for what he did to my favorite characters. I wonder what Price will do, I mean he lost everyone but Nicolai. This one makes me want to play CoD4 even more now, maybe I could spot Markorav and Yuri in that one van!

I totally agree:
When Soap started to die, I was really hoping he would make it. But he didn't, then I got ******* irritated. C'mon, it was sad when Sandman, Truck and Grinch died, but I didn't have a connection to them! Soap's the toughest guy ever, and it killed me when he died. I would've liked to kill Makarov in a very gruesome way too, maybe slit his wrist and leave him there to die, while Price has a smoke and watches from 20 feet away. I'm also thinking of a game that takes place when Soap and Ghost were in TF141 together, before the world went to **** and they both died. I need to be reunited with those two!

I stalled out for the night at level 37 with my SCAR at level 27 or 28, I don't remember. The Gold Camo is at level 31 and Mastery is at level 29, so its almost time to start on a new gun. I got another Attack Helicopter and a bunch of Predators, and would have gotten more if I wasn't deliberately trying for hipfire kills for a Weekly Challenge.

What does Crysis being arcady have to do with graphics? Besides gun physics in Crysis (PC version) are more difficult than in COD, if you don't get headshots in Crysis you will waste a massive ammount of ammo. But that isnt the point.

My point was that Crysis is a game that came out in 2007, and has better graphics than the biggest release of the year in 2011. Also COD doesn't feel like COD, since MW2 the series has been a bit bastardised. Perhaps that was a good thing, as it has seen the most success since that game, but graphically it has not moved on, biggest release of the year with out of date graphics is just shoddy.

Ive only come across a few people who've got a CoD4 prestige emblem in the callsign so far. Its kinda surprising actually.
