Most needed update - Cheats

I don't want to spend hours grinding away to get the cars to find my mate has it

Then "cheat" too.

I don't mean to single you out or anything, but if you don't want to grind, why do you defend it in the game in the first place? It's a paradox. People have said that cheating will temp them, but doesn't that mean you are only not cheating because you're being forced to/out of tradition, and in reality, you just want to get the grind out of the way?

Now let me make this clear, I want cheats for Gran Turismo 5. A money cheat, an unlock everything in Arcade mode cheat etc. You see, I work 40+ hours a week and that plus you know, living a life outside of gaming, leaves me a few hours a week game time. Do I want to spend that precious time grinding the same car on the same track to get money for a car I don't want to then repeat the process over ad nauseum?

I already know the response will be largely against it (no idea why). An Arcade mode cheat would be fine - those that did grind away their life in the career mode can still feel pride in knowing what they have achieved, without questioned what's in someone's garage.

When I went in to buy this game, I saw Final Fantasy 13 and GT5 sitting next to each other. Did i pick FF13? Of course not, yet I feel in a small way as if I have.. I wanted a racing game. Driving cars with less power than my half decent road car is not "fun" in any sense of the word, even if I'm leveling up.

So please, someone give me one good reason why cheats would have an adverse effect on anything other than the amount of boredom I'm currently experiencing.

I feel your pain since I in a similar lifestyle that is very busy. I am on the fence about having cheats. We will see what happens in the next few weeks and if I can make any decent progress.
:)

Ok. The general consensus seems to be cheats would ruin online - fair enough. My aim here is to get what I (and many others) want without affecting anyone else's Gran Turismo experience.

I believe unlocking everything in Arcade would be the perfect solution. The cars cannot be modified, cannot be used online etc.

In effect, I could buy GT5, 5 minutes later be driving the RedBull X1 around the Ring at night with full damage, and you know what? No one would even know, but I would be having the time of my life (oh the HORROR!)

Please feel free to find fault in my above suggested approach. I am really trying to find a way to do this without pissing anyone off.

Hold on, what does this have to do with defending the game

Unusual assertions aside, It's not really a paradox.

I want some sort of challenge from a game. Making money could be one such challenge.

Ideally everyone else faces the same challenge, because if my mate can do a months progress in a day, if I want to race with him in similar cars to what he has, I will have to cheat to.

To summarize, I don't want to cheat, but if everyone else does, then I am not going to be able to join in the fun, so I will have to cheat myself if I don't want to be left out. This will ruin the challenge aspect of career mode though. You can't have your cake and eat it in this respect.

CHEATS ?

Give me a break.Do what every one else is going to do ... play it through, you'll get there. ;)

It's not like we are pressed for time on how quickly it takes to progress through the game. 💡

I agree with you, no one is forced to do anything. However, having played Diablo 1 on the PC some time in the distant past, only a select few cheated. They went around and gave people whatever they wanted. Soon enough everyone started to cheat and this utterly killed the online experiance. Not that im making a direct comparison to a RPG game, but moreover the online element itself.

I don't see how this would effect online? It's not like having access to all the cars will suddenly make everyone faster online. Plus, the host can choose/limit what cars people drive.

So any valid reasons against? You're kind of meant to argue your point with solid reasoning against my point of view. Aggression and slander only works in my favour

Ok, so...
If there were cheats, most of the people would just race online pretty much most of the time with the best cars of the game (which you'd need to work pretty hard for when there weren't cheats) and they wouldn't spend time to race with slower cars. This would make the game much faster boring than it would be WITH GT Mode. Now there's a challenge in the game, and if you work hard you can show off your good cars and skills online.

I read the original post.

I know you said GT mode, but see above. I don't think anyone wants anymore than Arcade mode unlocked.

Wouldn't he need only restrict himself to what's in your garage?

But GT mode is only affected by the actions of one person, the person playing the file. If I had a 100% GT5 save file at this point, what would keep you from earning money in GT mode? It's not like I would be spamming you with gift cars. Likewise online, I have enough money to race some fairly quick cars, yet I've been in races that restrict you to slower machines. Even though I had a Viper ACR, it did not in anyway ruin the RX-7 event I entered.

Where is that implied? What happens after a month with the current system when regular players all have access to the JGTC cars? If everyone is as you describe, the current system does not help. Also, see above about my RX-7 race comments.

Another thing that everyone should keep in mind is the copy protected saves.

If PD/Sony will not change that, cheats could be an alternative if someone is losing his save because his PS died.

Exactly. Eventually the "unwashed masses" will have done enough grinding to be able to race against the F1 drivers that seem to frequent these forums. No matter what, fast drivers will be fast. The only people that should be worried are those that lack skill, but have an abundance of time.

I would welcome a money cheat so I can buy the fastest car for a certain race, that way I know I still have bronze trophies to get.

Wanna cheat? Go buy the collectors edition & unlock the 5 "chrome line" cars at the start of the game. I can't think of a better example than that.

I think what has everybody upset is the fact that you want to reap the rewards without putting in the work. I mean, starting with a weak car and working up to the good cars, IS Gran Turismo. Your talking about what you paid for, instantly unlocking everything is devaluing it just as much as not driving the cars at all. If all you want do to is drive cars fast in a circle, why not get NFS or any other racing game? Grinding is just as much of a part of GT as the cars or driving.

Unlocking everything in Arcade Mode? I guess, but I always thought it was called arcade because the physics were dumb-downed.

Come on guys, one reason why Arcade mode shouldn't have everything unlocked. Not some "witty" image, not a half-baked response. Just a clear, concise reason why after spending $80 I can't have fun, fun that wouldn't effect anyone in the slightest.

I'd be in Arcade, happy as larry. You'd be in GT Life/Online, happy aswell.

Problem?

I couldn't care less if you want to cheat, but you shouldn't be able to get ANY of the trophys, ANY of the completion % in the game, or be able to use ANYTHING that you've gotten from the point you started cheating on in online play.

But yeah, if you want to have everything available in Arcade mode offline, I see no reason you shouldn't be able to do that.

You could even have some "Arcade Online" section where you can use whatever cars and tracks you want, even if you haven't unlocked them.

What if I have 5 friends that have done the cheat. Are they all going put their Vipers and Ferrari's aside so I can join in my Mx-5?

Either I am going to have to cheat, or I am going to play by myself.

Cheating to race with them, will ruin the offline aspect.

Not cheating and not playing with them may ruin the online aspect at least until I have got far enough to buy cars of equal parity.

I believe enjoying the challenge of offline and cheating to be mutually exclusive.

Add "CHEATER" to my gamer tag for all I care, just let me enjoy the game.

I'm far from agreeing it's the most needed update though. There's some other things I'd like first, like removing the copy protection from save games and tying it to PSN ID instead.

That is worrying. Lost 3 years of saved games in September, never thought to copy them. If i'm made to play GT Life, I'd sure as hell want some kind of back up.

This thread cracks me up! I would welcome some cheats in the same way you mentioned. Work a 45hour week, family, decorating a house and all the other stuff. Having the fun fast cars is where the fun is at!

All the replies that say "play need for speed" or "don't play video games" are such lame replies. We don't all have the time to spend hours getting gold on our license, but it doesn't mean that we shouldn't want to have some fun with our cars. After all it's a game and I want entertaining. Driving an old split screen camper around the top gear test track is just not fun.

So anyway, that's my reply. Flame suit on :)

When the OP phrases the action as "grinding your life away" then you may just realize why people are getting so defensive. The OP intended on these responses to come forth because there is no real answer unless he was to ask PD himself.

GT is basically a RPG, you start from scratch and work your way up to the end through leveling and gaining new cars (loot/gear if you will). I agree that arcade mode should have more cars but not GT Life. The majority of RPGs I know of don't have cheats.

My thing is, if you don't have the time, this is probably not for you. Its your life or the game. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Also, this isn't COD, its not like GT6 is going to be out next year.

I think the most needed update is:

SAVING IN BETWEEN A CHAMPIONSHIP RACE

Some of us don't want to leave our playstation on all night to heat up just so we can play another race...

Games should be realistic in physics, and unrealistic in the times you go to them (i.e. saving etc etc ) That's what makes them fun!

That takes away the whole thing of championship races, that you can't restart a race, you'll have to restart it all...

RPS's also don't have Arcade modes either, but I agree with your main point.

I support the idea wholeheartedly. Some people have lives away from gaming (hard to comprehend, I know) and it makes it hard to get to use the game to its full potential if there's items that only come with time.

I don't want anything that gets extra money or quick wins, but I do want something that unlocks all cars for Arcade Mode, so if I have a few minutes to spare I can just in a quick race with my favorite car and then I can be on with my business.

*Laughs*. I mean no disrespect, but the game has been out like three days. And already you want to cheat it? Unbelievable.

I work a 40-hour week, as well. I have to balance this time with other stuff. I have a life, in other words, but I'm the opposite of you. I can't wait to just sit there, "grinding" the same race over and over again. That's what I did with the very first GT, and that's what I'll do tonight! :D

I'll give you one good reason why cheating is a bad idea. Actually two.

1. Why spend all this money on a brand new game and NOT play it!?

2. Your skills won't improve. And eventually you'll find yourself (later) needing to attack better, faster races, but you'll get stuck. Then you'll try to see if B-spec can do any better than you. Then, assuming all that fails, you come here, asking us why you can't get past such-and-such level. You'll have no idea of the finer nuances of tuning or driving.

It's your game of course. Do whatever you want. I hope you never find what you're looking for, though.
