Looks like Football Manager for motorsports (F1)
http://store.steampowered.com/app/415200/

This is a brand new game built from the ground up especially for PC, Mac and Linux.

The game is designed for longer and more in-depth play session.

It features a fully persistent world of drivers, designers, and mechanics. There are 16 new 3D circuits with cars that you can now see taking the racing line, locking up tyres, and making mistakes.

Trailer, they have a few more vids in their channel

Saw this a while back and was going to post a thread but ended up not doing it. Looks interesting, hopefully they add more than just F1 style cars in the future.

I thought this was about the phone game, which for a phone game is pretty good. I'm glad I'm wrong, this looks like it could be great.

Jumped in early with this and it was well worth the price of entry for me. If you've played the mobile Motorsport Manager, and have that in mind when looking at this - forget it, this is very much an entirely new game. As the OP alluded to it's definitely the closest a game has come to being "Football Manager for motorsport". Not the same level of depth, but the structures are all in place:
  • Three open wheel series with (optional) promotion/relegation between them
  • Open markets for drivers (including scouting), mechanics and designers - all with specific traits and ratings that change over time
  • Building and improving specific parts during a season
  • Ability to specialise next year's chassis design in certain areas (like tyre saving, or fuel efficiency)
  • Expanding + upgrading your HQ
  • Budget management (and you do actually have to manage it in this game!)
  • Binary-choice scenarios: interviews, random "dilemmas", selecting sponsors
  • Managing set-up, driver orders and tyre/fuel strategy during race weekends
My favourite detail is during a season you - along with the other teams in your series - get to vote on potential rule changes for the next season. For example my series voted to bring in spec gearboxes - so I don't have to worry about building and developing them anymore. And the scope of the rules is large - I think everything on this list can be changed in some way:

Steam workshop support will apparently be coming soon as well. Really looking forward to that! :)

So... erm... Yeah.

This game is amazing.

I've spent soooo much time on it at the moment...

And Kruger are doing terribly at the moment (financially)

Bah, that's baby talk, on my Predator challenge save, I've put Predator Racing Group 5 freaking million credits into debt and I'm not even past the first five races.

It's not like my 2017 season when I was 6+ million dollars in debt! I couldn't develop ANYTHING for 2017 aside from a Good gearbox and an Average front wing...

Also... YAY for Epic Gearbox! (and a race win)

So I picked this up. Started with Team Dragon Racing in the ERC. I immediately noticed my reserve driver was better than my first driver and my first driver was awful. Out goes first driver in comes reserve.

I appear to be doing quite well actually. One of my drivers gets top 5s regularly despite the team being rated for the bottom end of the grid. That driver being the reserve.

Also yay... apparently I am so poor that I cannot even afford a $0 purchase to fire someone...

(also my job has been at risk for about 5 races or so and I haven't gotten any ultimatum... thanks to Laura Ingledew's "Nice Girl" trait...)

Ha. Unlucky.

I may have cheated a little. I noticed the name of one of Aarava's star drivers. Immediately hired. :P

I am doing ok. Season 2 with Team Dragon and I am sort of around 3rd-4th in the championship. Balcazar gets podiums most races whilst the other guy is my old reserve driver.

Actually to be fair all of the drivers at the start of the game are exactly the same... so if someone were to do a bit of a research project and research all of the starting stats for all of the drivers...

I switched teams. Joined Ozu. The are really an APS team but they got relegated and I am trying to turn them around. I did win the 2 last races which I did with them (I joined with 2 races to go) and won the championship but turned down the promotion chance because I think I need to upgrade the factory first.

I have to say. Considering they only started the company recently they are doing really well. Both in terms of business and in terms of game quality.

I just finished the 2020 season of the Backmarker Challenge. After switching out my second driver mid season (4 star potential though, so keeping him as a reserve) I went on a 4 race winning streak and my team's championship took a massive boost, heading into the final race I only needed to finish 17th and 18th to win the title. The driver's standings were another matter, with Ines Santa Ana 3rd but only 7 points off the lead.
5 laps into the finale (at the Phoenix Roval!) the championship leader crashed out and caused a safety car. I chose a 1 stop for both drivers, while my main rival chose a 2 stop. My second driver (Kumar) took a comfortable win, while Ines had to fight through from the back of the back. Her title rival grabbed a huge advantage before pitting, and came out on fresh softs with 5 laps to go. He slashed the gap massively but Ines held on to 4th and took the title by 4 points!

Not sure whether I want to move up yet, my car is still only 7th best but I have much better strategy than the AI. I feel like I'd get massacred in the Asia-Pacific series though.

Can anyone explain what each stat means? Both on staff and drivers.

Also, why is my scouting report and the individual skills saying that a driver I scouted has massive potential but the stars say they don't?

The outlined stars show their potential (I think?), and if they have the "Wonderkid" personality, I think this heavily boosts their potential. I have no idea why the stars say that a driver doesn't have potential when the scout says they do...

I started again as I realised that the politics skill doesn't mean much to me. I thought I would gain a huge advantage bending the rules to my favour but tbh most votes IDC either way.

So I started the challenge where you start with archer but you can leave the team so pretty much a normal career. I just hope it doesn't end the game when I finish the challenge.
Also went with the financial skill this time.

I never realised how much of a difference good drivers make. Doing the Archer start challenge and my car went from back of the grid to winning everything after ditching Rogers and El Sadat and taking Rodrigues and Balcazar. I didn't upgrade the car once.

I'm not sure if new promotees cars are upgraded to the exact same specificiations regardless of how bad your car is.

Apparently when you overheat your tyres you lose the performance boost from pushing. I know it shreds your tyres but I noticed I still go faster.

I think when the driver says that they're not getting the same boost from pushing, it basically means that their tire wear rate is at the maximum it can be.

Does anyone know if tire temperature during the race actually affects pace?

Also does slipstreaming affect your car's speed, and does being in dirty air affect tire wear/temps?

A bit late, but here's what I've found for drivers:
Braking, Cornering, Overtaking, Feedback - These are all pretty self explanatory
Smoothness - Tire wear
Consistency - Tire wear/variation in lap times over a stint
Adaptability - Wet weather skill modifier
Fitness - Performance drop off over race distance
Focus - Frequency of mistakes

On another note, I'm starting to worry that the game is a little too easy. I'm in my second APS season with Predator after being promoted and I've won 3 of 4 races despite having the worst drivers on the grid and only the 6th best car. (was 7th at the start of the season) It may be because I'm on short race lengths, so I'll change that up once I finish the backmarker challenge.
