My dad told me something about how James Garner's life insurance company cancelled his policy on himself because he did all his own driving in the movie.

I'm surprised there were cameras that were small enough to fit on a F1 car in 1957.

The world is more advanced in technology than you may think at times 💡 .

That is some serious GoPro camera attached to his helmet :) .

That happens all the time, Mac. I've almost flipped before, a few friends of mine have flipped their karts/been ejected. They just get up, say "that was fun," and go back to racing. Karts are surprisingly safe, given the "lack of" that seems to be the design principle of the safety devices.

I have a feeling it may have been posted, but meh. For future reference, you can use the 'search this thread' button at the top and paste the youtube code in. That will protect against posting the exact version of a video at the very least.

Here's a treat for you all.

Greatly extended highlights of the BBC's coverage of 'The Mansell Race'. Well worth a watch. Covers everything except the finish... (!)

Also found this while looking for classic F1 footage, none of it works for Murray Walker,

This is BY FAR the most intense racing video that I have ever seen.
My Dad told me that racers in Ireland are crazy, I guess this proves it, and the lap at the end of the video is amazing, like a rollercoaster on a bike.

How do those motorcycles carry the weight of their balls.... Christ.....

Karts at Daytona? What layout of the road course were they running? Was everyone okay?

Yes. Karts do tend to race rather often at Daytona, that's correct. Not the full course, but a smaller layout that generally only reaches a part of the way around.

And, as far as I'm aware, everyone walked away, with nothing more than bruises and sore bones.

Motorsport forum rules are that one can't post videos of fatal crashes, so, at least we know everyone survived. And, given the fact that the driver who fell out of the kart wasn't hit (after falling out, that is), I imagine even he's okay.

I used to (and do still) race karts like that. Different motors, same chassis.
