He's damn lucky that it wasn't worse.
As much as I love Bathurst, the track is incredibly dangerous, this and Mostert's crash also showed, that some more modern barriers and safety fences would be a good idea.

Agreed, it at least needs some "safer barrier" as used in ovals,

Not to be jumping the gun here on safety at Bathurst... but wouldn't the track need to be widened in certain sections in order for "SAFER barrier" style protection to be put in place? Specifically thinking about how close the drivers get to the wall at portions (specifically around the esses and Sulman Park...)

Some tracks in NASCAR have been started replacing the concrete walls I've heard for full on safety walls. It might be a method to take here and other similar places.

I have a hard time not thinking that this crash was more brutal than Mostert's, to be duly honest. The outer layer of the body of Damien's car was practically destroyed, right down to the bare frame. Near the same section where Coulthard crashed a few years ago, and about as violent... Bathurst is still one treacherous track, that much can be assumed.
Different to Mosterts in a sense that Mosterts were far heavier hits, although I'd say that Flacks was worse due to the first hit with the wall as the car flips and just how violent each of the rolls were. Far worse than Coulthards

Top one was the moment of the season, the second one was really unfortunate and quite an unpleasant crash (I was getting nervous waiting on the hospital updates that morning), and the third was a bit of brain fade from Jeanney that took out two Final-worthy cars.

Crash from the opening lap of race 1 from the ETCC Final. Driver was ok, crew rebuild the car enough for him to put around in last place, and I think he won the championship. Pretty hard hit though.

What circuit is that?

Rossi .vs. Marquez, MotoGP, Sepang. The two had had a great battle but Rossi had clearly had enough of Marquez... he ran Marquez wide then stuck his knee into his brake lever.

Apologies for the classic YouTube presentation but there aren't many clips about that haven't been taken down.

The smart car deserved it. :P

Well the co-pilot's reaction (hands across his face, covering his eyes) pretty much sums up the entire situation. There's making a wrong turn, and then there's making a wrong turn with some collateral damage on the side... Must be one of the first times where I've seen a citizen's car being involved in a rally car crash, and the Smart actually got out of that one better than the rally-spec Peugeot, figure that one out, haha.
