When you forget to turn damage on...

"Brady Bacon's remarkable comeback tonight during the #hulmanclassic at the Terre Haute Action Track was one for the ages. He nearly touched the clouds in this heat #1 crash, rolled out the backup & went 14th to 3rd in the B. To cap it off, he charged from 9th to 3rd in the feature."

Blessed Video:

7 minutes of Kimi Räikkönen laughing and joking as he terrifies Antonio Giovinazzi.

I know it isn't a requirement for a seat in F1, but it still seems odd for a driver to not know the Nordschleife at all. He seemed surprised at the existence of the Carrousel.

Yeah I could probably teach him a thing or two after driving on it many times in video games.

1976 Scottish Rally. Ari Vatanen has a diff failure in his Mk2 Ford Escort. It's a part that has never broken before and they have no spares - but it is a part shared with the 3 litre Mk1 Capri... so all they have to do is find one and convince the owner to let them pinch the diff out of their car. As you do.

Kimi seems exactly like the kind of person who takes great joy/guilty pleasure in scaring the **** out of people behind the wheel.

That's great but it's a bit cut down. The full version is here.

Formula E, London, Race 2 spoilers

Formula E, London, earlier today: the pitlane is shorter than the track, and the pitlane speed limit is higher than the safety car speed. The rules say you have to stop in your pitbox if you enter the pits... but that still saves enough time for Lucas Di Grassi to go from 8th to 1st.

Until he got - ironically - a drive through penalty because he didn't come to a complete halt, which the team didn't tell him about whilst they argued their case, so it became a black flag and disqualification.

(Will edit in a better video if I can find one)

That is genius. I wonder how they would have handled it he did come to a complete stop and couldn't penalize him for anything.
When pressed, Bertrand would not entertain a scenario in which di Grassi did come to a full stop and would have won the race with a strategy call that he admitted to being impressed by.

“It didn't happen in reality because they didn't do it properly,” he said. “But in any case, we will need to react and change it also.

“I cannot say what would happen if he had [done] something right. For the moment, the only thing which is important is that… it did not work.

“But it could have been an interesting scene from a pure racing point of view.”

That statement just reads as "CHRIST we dodged a bullet today!"...

As clever as it was, what a farce to think that you would want to win a race in that way... I know a win is a win, and the Championship etc. But I'm talking exclusively about the conscience of this as a race winning move. Like Schumacher winning for Ferrari in the pitlane, clever doesn't mean right.

Allan McNish (Audi Team Principal) was totally unapologetic for the action, and actually seemed surprised that no one else tried it.

I'm sure that throughout all the various motorsport Championships and disciplines, there are those people like Allan McNish who do not falter at these kinds of decisions. It is probably how they get to the position they have... In his position, I would not make the call to do it, but for every 99 of "me", there exists that 1 who would... And I'm probably being ambitious in expecting it to be as low as 1% of Principals! 😅

Not sure if just aquaplaining or no anti-lock brakes. Or both.

There are some nasty hits in there though.

Things I learned from this video:
  • Toyota knew about the Coronavirus well before us
  • Steve Soper raced in Japan
  • "Oh my god" is a legitimate part of the Japanese language
  • Leaving a car in the firing line was perfectly OK apparently, even when it got hit 3 times
  • Japan has had at least 27 years of using single-use Polystyrene blocks as barriers and still hasn't realised how terrible that idea is

Steve Soper pretty much raced anywhere in the early-mid 90s where an E36 STW was being run, he was one of BMWs top drivers.

There was a video I can't find anymore (probably got deleted) that showed the cleanup crew loading the car and its debris on the flatbed... one of the intake covers got ripped off the engine, just to highlight how violent the impacts were. Absolutely amazing Aitken got away with relatively minor injuries given the state of the wreckage.

Edit: there it is.
