MSN 1.5hr Manufacturer's Endurance Race Series

I must admit, even though i'd only taken part in a single event, for me it was one of the best races i've ever had - if not the THE best. The crowd that has been gathered here is obviously a keeper, and the format just works so well... Personally, i'd hate to see the series close, but i can only respect whatever decision you take.

I have run so many leagues that I don't even know how many it's been. Found a format that kind of works and stuck with it. I know how much time it takes to run a club. I run the Wednesday League, Monday One Makes every other week, 1 hr endurance races once a month, and various lobbies during the week. I maintain three web pages were I post events and scores. I too have a full time job, 3 kids, a wife, various medical issues that sometimes I just don't feel like racing but do because other are relying on me for an event and I don't want to let them down, and as an only child older parents to keep an eye on. What I hate the most is when a newcomer comes in to the league or a lobby and starts asking for track and lobbies settings to be changed before they even race 1 race. Don't get discouraged by a few who don't like what your doing. If you have a half full lobby each week your doing ok believe me. I had over 500 members on my club community page on GT6 but only ever saw the same 20 or 30 people. I have the same issue today. 120 members on PS4 Community page and many have never turned up for one race. That's OK because the same group that turns up week after week are the ones I want to race with anyway. After this many years we have become friends even though I have only met a few in person. We used to do the video chat on PS3 and sit around talking but you cant do that on PS4 I dont think. We enjoy racing each other and the conversations. Gran Turismo has allowed me to meet so many people from around the world that I would never have met otherwise. Gran Turismo is not just a game but a way of life for some of us. There has been a few a-holes along the way that I just unfriend so they can't get in the friends only lobby and move on. Having raced in one of his leagues already I can tell you they are alot of fun and his group people are very cool. I also enjoyed talking to them throughout the race in our headsets.

Your idea of club vs club racing sounds like alot of fun and I bet a lot of the members here would be all for that as a friendly competition. Nothing serious.

The whole idea of GT Sport is for the fun of it. That's why we play games anyways I hope.

I'm 48 years old with a wife and two kids under 1 years old that I love dearly but life can get very stressful here at home. I've also had a very demanding job at Ford Motor Company for the past 20 years that works me some crazy hours swing shift hours.
So my time on GTS becomes a great escape from a very busy life already.

I've always wanted to run a series, event, league or whatever you want to call this. But it's not an easy thing to do and takes a lot of work to get up and going then to maintain it.
This is why I kept it simple. There are not a lot of rules in place to follow or keep up with. Join pick your car and race. No point system, no registration process, no special number plates, no special weight restrictions, horsepower restrictions and on and on. It was simply because it was all about having fun with like-minded people.

I understand we could keep throwing more and more rules into the mix to make it more competitive but that defeats the purpose of why I created this in the first place. There are so many serious leagues in this forum already so why turn this into something that already exist.

One of my biggest character flaws is I try to make everyone happy and I will explain my reasons for doing the things I do instead of just saying " this is how it is deal with it or leave" because I just want others to understand why I run it the way I do. Kinda like now.

But I never expected so many people to be unhappy with the way I did things. @Cold Warriors is not the only one who is unhappy with the way I run things and he is also not the sole reason I shut down this league so don't crucify him over it.
I have other people who are not on this forum that races with us. One that will message me a 10 page novel that Rip's my ass every chance they get about not letting tuning into this event no matter how much I explain to them that's not going to happen.
There are more people but normally they just throw out a negative comment here and there. My best friend of 26 years is not happy with the way I do things. It was a combination of things that lead me to my decision. But the bottom line is it wasn't fun anymore.

So when this becomes more like a job and it's not fun anymore then it's time to say goodbye. I don't want to spend all my time explaining myself to everyone that's not happy with the way I do things. If you don't enjoy just showing up and racing then why do you stay?

If you have an idea on how to keep it simple but make the race's better then just say so. Say "I have an idea or suggestion then bring it up and see what everyone thinks about it. They will either say good idea or No that really won't work with our format. The group has shot down a few of my suggestions already because it didn't keep it simple. No biggie.

But don't pick a fight with me to get your point across because Im not doing this anymore.

So where do we go from here?

I truly believe this series might not survive if I bring it back. I believe enough unrepairable damage might have already been done to it.

People were already just not showing up for the race and not saying anything about missing a race.
Not everyone one though I did have a few who were very nice at letting me know they couldn't make it.
Last race was the first time we had ever had anyone just drop out and it started the domino effect as we started with 12 people but ended up with only 7 people finishing the race.

The first race was the only time we have had a full lobby since then it has decreased every race.
If it wasn't for the new members signing up and showing up at the last minute the lobby would have been over half empty.
I do thank all of the new members for showing up and their talent was outstanding.

So this event has been in a slow decline over the past 3 race's and now we have all this drama going on. I'm to blame for all of this too.

If I was someone new looking to race and I clicked on this thread then seen all the drama and negativity surrounding this thread over the past week. I wouldn't even think about joining it.
At the same time there are some really positive post from the people who really enjoyed this race so that might be the only thing that keeps it hanging on.
So be prepared if only 6 or 7 people show up for each event. Maybe even less.

I do want to thank everyone who has supported this series and it has been a lot of fun when things are going good because of you. I do enjoy racing with everyone and it's because of you that I will give this another go. If you have any ideas that might make the racing better please don't be afraid of bouncing those ideas off the entire group.

I'm going to take a suggestion I was given and assign an officer to help me run things and keep the peace. Someone who doesn't feel the need to explain the reason for the decisions I make.
If your interested in helping me out let me know. If there is more than one of you interested then we will figure something out.

I had exactly the same experience when I ran a league in GT6, started off really well, the entire first season went off without a hitch really, other than slowly declining car counts, but the 2nd season more and more people were fighting against how I wanted to do things and it just fell apart, and also wasn’t fun anymore. It didn’t help that most of the other guys were from Europe so I had to rush home from work every week to open up the lobby in time. It is really up to you, if it’s not fun anymore, I feel your pain and understand completely

It might also benefit you to find a league that runs on multiple nights and try to slot in there with them. You will already have a built in group of like-minded people and not have to worry about randoms coming in each week to complain. Try SNAIL. We'd love to have you.

If people leave because they are unhappy about rules not being modified to appease them them I'm sure we could find others to take their place. We could start by looking on our friend lists for others who may be interested. As far as the reason I'm here it's not because I feel I must win for enjoyment. Even if I lapping by myself I can either gain or lose time to the cars in front/behind, so that's still competing. I had a great time at my first race last week and would like to see this series continue even though I know it's highly unlikely I will ever win.

With The overwhelming support from our members and surprisingly others who don't even race with us it has renewed my faith in the series and that maybe I'm actually doing something right/we are doing something right.

On top of that @ynot and his team offering to do some friendly club vs club racing and this has really got me excited again.
I've raced with them in one of their N-Class series and it was nothing but fun. He runs a top notch program and I think everyone will be very excited about this. We do have a few members that are currently running in some of his events now. Should be interesting to see what club they choose to run for.

I will also be joining them again when they decided to do some more N-Class racing on Wednesday night's.

Once we decide who to pick an officer to help me run things then we will get together with them a hash out the details. I know @ynot has a very busy program and finding a time, day, month will be probably be the hardest part that works for everyone in both clubs.

I wouldnt worry about numbers so much. The participation will always go up and down. Just need to build a good core and I think everything will be ok.

Yes i did reach out to all of them when I first started this. Baron, Totally_Lit, and G_asher. Even though they showed some interest they didn't join. Lit was the only one to reply back that said he would not be joining because of prior commitments I know he races in Snail. The other two never responded back.

I was really looking forward to seeing your Stars and Stripes Viper to celebrate the 4th of July but work and Money should always take top priority.

It should be much much fun. And Nothing says we have to run Gr.4 cars so there is no telling what we will come up with but I do know it will be one Hell of a good time.

I too have seen dwindling numbers in attendance for the longer races. It's too long for some and once they get far behind some feel like whats the point in just turning laps and drop out or feel they can't compete so why turn up at all. I would try some different things. I love a good 2 hr race but it's not for everyone. 1.5 is good too but still too long for many. I usually run mine about 1 hr. Not long enough for me but a happy middle ground I guess. Try some single endurance races at 1hr to 2hrs and see how it goes and some non-complaining feedback.

Now one thing I do like and again it's not for everyone is running the race with boost on light or weak (whatever the lowest setting is). I use it from time to time on longer (over 1hr races) to take the place of no cautions in the game. It allows those who have a spin out, wreck, some other mishap, or just not as fast as everyone else to get back in the race once they catch back up. Normally a caution would come out and the field would regroup and start again but in GTS everyone see a spin out or whatever and just keeps on going leaving them far behind. I have ruined a race on the first lap many times and it is very frustrating. Boost also makes for some close racing up front too. It gives some hope to the slower drivers by at least seeing some cars in front of them. Makes them feel their still in the game and have a chance if the leaders mess up.

Boost has some aspects I don't like too so it's frustrating at times too. Worth trying in on a race from time to time.

Different slipstream settings can be fun as well. Gives you that if I can just get a little closer I can catch him and then deciding to be the leader on the final lap knowing the person behind has a good chance to slipstream past you at the end or drop to second place and hoping you did not throw the race away because you could not catch him at the end after all.

Run some practice session and races in open lobby to recruit some new people. That's the best way I seem to find people plus you can see who not to allow to the races. Some of the people on GTS are just there to race like on GTA V.

Nothing like a good dirty race either. Back on GT5 we used to run the league races then afterwards a good dirty race. Good fun and lots of laughs. The chance to knock the hell out of someone who has one coming. Just nobody get butt hurt over it its all for fun.

I really wish you could customize the race option more. Like specific things you can tune and others not allowed. Would love to have a random grid start option. So many other possibilities.

At the end of it all you seem to have some people that enjoy the races as they are so dont change those races just maybe some tweaks here or there and it seems like you have been doing that already.

Lots of good points there. As far as being quite a ways behind I am probably unique as it really doesnt bother me as long as I am not falling behind because of someones dirty driving. I dont have the time I would like to spend finding more speed but you never know what can happen in a race. 1 unlucky spin or off can make a huge difference to someone in front of you.

I was really looking forward to seeing your Stars and Stripes Viper to celebrate the 4th of July but work and Money should always take top priority.

I gotta "steal" a new livery for my Citroen, that Total livery makes it look like I'm sponsored by Iraq to me. I dont have the time I would like to be fast, I certainly dont have time to figure how to do my own liveries then actually do one. Is it true PD did not actually include instructions on how to use the livery editor and that everyone essentially had to figure it out on their own?

There really is no instructions on how to use the livery editor but I just play around with it until I find something that I like. Most of the time it takes me an hour to create a livery that I like. I don't go to overboard with mine I just keep it pretty simple and easy to use.

Oh hell it's over and we are well past all that now. We do fight like brothers sometimes tho in RL then the next day we are drinking beer and cooking out burgers. It's all good

Only seems like normal to me that you guys bicker over some stuff. That only means you are passionate about the things you do and your beliefs.

So yesterday we did a couple of Gr.4 lobby races around 30 minutes long.
I noticed some big issues within those race's.

This in & out ghosting while having a penalty like someone is turning it off & on by a light switch is annoying. It was causing some big issues like people driving right through you.
You also have no clue when or where it's going to happen or how long it will last.

What the Hell was PD thinking adding this crap in. We have the option to turn ghost on or off and if we wanted it on then we would setup the lobby that way. As far as I know there is nothing I can do to stop it.
They continue to ruin this game more & more every update.

We also got a good look into just how unbalanced the Gr.4 class really is.

Running at la Sarthe the damn Bugatti Veyron is about 50mph faster than every other car in the Gr.4 class and it would just blow by everyone on those long stretches.

My Porsche is still a slow ass turtle even after a 1% power increase this last update. It could not catch one car at la Sarthe. Even if I was right on someone's back bumper all up in the slipstream they would still pull away quickly from me.

It's just Frustrating how broken this game really is because of stupid things PD continues to add or not fix within the game. Easy fixable stuff too.

Yeah that ghosting thing is a real PITA. Especially when someone should be ghosting cause they are wrecking in front of you and they dont then sometimes you can attempt a pass and someone moves to block you and you drive right thru their car even though it didnt show it was ghosting. The ghosting thing is kinda like playing the lottery, you never know when it will happen and actual ghosting doesnt sync with visual ghosting. I guess it has been that way long enough that I'm used to it.
