Well, I am the only person I know that owns a quad processor machine and now I am the only person I know that has four monitors connected to his/her home computer.

kinda cool anyway
Event Horizon...Now, he just has a P4 3.4GHZ Extreme Edition!![]()
toyomatt84Which is basically an overpriced, overclocked 3.0 chip. (Someone got ripped.)
No biggie, though. I didn't buy it.
Anyways, I'm in the process of converting my server project from components that are in the case at the time being, to the final pieces. I'm temporarily using the case as my gaming pc case, which will be done pretty shortly. I'll be using either a 2 processor or 4 processor mobo with prolly Xeons, because I have yet to be satisfied with my AMD64 3400+. I just don't think windows and it like eachother, but no biggie. I'm not sure on Linux or not, but that's a little further in the future. Gotta purchase the 8-32 gigs of ram.
LoudMusicHis uncle works at Intel. I doubt there was any rippage going on.
Sounds like you're building one hell of a box. What do you plan to use it for?
He wasnt't ripped at all. This is his workstation comp. He payed nothing for it (but can't bring it home...toyomatt84Which is basically an overpriced, overclocked 3.0 chip. (Someone got ripped.)

LoudMusicYou could run that on an old Athlon 1800 XP with half a gig of memory. Don't go wasting your money on enterprise class hardware for simple things like that.
Event HorizonHe wasnt't ripped at all. This is his workstation comp. He payed nothing for it (but can't bring it home...) His home comp is a modest P4 3.0 Prescott (He worked on the Prescott project, he was a debugger). He built his daughter (5 year old daughter) a dual 500MHz P3 Machine. 👍
One of the forums I go to hosts a BF Vietnam, BF1942, SW Battlefront server on a dual 2.8 Xeon with either a gig or two of RAM. It's barely scratched.toyomatt84Well, not quite. The FTP server will host up to 2 Terabytes worth of storage. Then, with 4 games (UT2004, Far Cry, Call of Duty, and Medal of Honor), there is no way even a gig could handle those alone. Teamspeak would be able to be managed by what you've listed, but not much more than that.
Loud beat ya to it.![]()
toyomatt84How many people on each server are there? Because when testing UT2004 alone, I have had up to 50 people on at a turn. When running the higher amount of people, I get numbers close to 500 megs of ram. Of course, this is also a pretty intense game, so I doubt all are like it.
But, there are also other reasons why I want a server of that magnitude, bud. The FTP server will also be in place, and since I'm trying to get my own T1 server (maybe, I don't know of their region yet) it will definitely be put to the test.
They plan on it.2ez2KiLLMmmm.. Flightsim on that would be like bologna on a turkey..![]()
BurnoutI've asked them, I'll tell you soon.
I've got to say, though. A T1 wouldn't even touch what a server of that magnitude could do.
This place hosts their Teamspeak alone on a burstable T1.
They have the game server on a 20 meg fraction of OC-3.
Edit: Okay, the server is a Dual 2.8GHz Xeon w/HT, 1GB DDR2. It runs three games, each 40 people rooms. Battlefield 1942 w/Desert Combat mod, Battlefield Vietnam, and Starwars Battlefront. They plan on raising the room caps to 48 players a peice, though.
