I'm never gonna claim it to be a 4x4, so they can ask and I'll tell them it's a 2wd.

Besidesssssss, if I raise it even a little my mom will stay completely out of it  I've taken her for 1 ride in it, and it's downright comical watching her get in. She's 5'3"

Finally used her as a truck

Even if it's 2wd you can still have plenty of fun with it off-road, just don't get too carried away, or at least have a buddy with a 4wd to pull you out. Hell, my friend and I have had a 2wd Toyota pull his 4wd Blazer out of some soft sand before. It all depends on weight and tires, two things my friends Blazer didn't have going for it, especially the weight part. When we finally get his red Beetle going it'll probably be better in the sand than most of the big 4wd trucks out there, and it only has probably 60hp tops.

The main question you have to ask is if you're going to lift it, are you actually going to use it? If you're not gunna be out in the dirt every other weekend messing around then you're just wasting you're money like every other poser redneck down here.

By the by where do you live, I'm in Eustis.

You will be fine off road with BFG All-Terrains. Just stay out of the mud, the tread loads up and wont evacuate it for anything. Ask me how I know  If you DO plan to be in mud, and not sand, then look into the BFG Mud-terrain, or Maxxis Buckshot's. Maxxis should be cheaper, and very good tires. Those two will handle sand and mud and sling it everywhere, but you will hear them whining on the road and the tread won't last like the All-Terrains. But if your going to drive on sand and dirt, and most of the time on the road, the All-Terrains will be fine. But they turn into slicks with sticky mud.

Edit: Diablo- If your down in Eustis, ever been out to Canaveral Groves by Titusville? So much open land to off road. Mud pits that will swallow vehicles, and keep them. Very cool out there. One of the spots out in Canaveral Groves "The Black Hole" is particularly crazy.

Unfortunately not. My friend doesn't like to off-road his Blazer anymore, but when he did we used to go down 441 a bit and there was a nice clay pit that everyone goes to. It used to be used for fill sand but they stopped and the owner doesn't care. It's a decent mix of clay and sand, but there are some parts where it turns into just soft sand and that's where we got stuck. We went there once after it had rained for a few days and that was about the most fun I've ever had, you could barely tell it was a Blazer, and he's got the clay baked onto his exhaust to prove it, lol.

Haha nice! I've not been to where your talking about, but I think I've heard of it before. Clay sounds like fun, would make a real mess when the tires pick it up.

Option 4.. find a shorter bed and combine with option 1. Your bed is LONG. It looks way out of place. i don't know how much work it would be, but I think with leveling out the truck and getting a shorter bed[if possible] it would look sweet. Otherwise I'd go for lowering it. Plus if you ever plan on towing, you're going to look like an asshat if you raise it too much.

Couldn't be done, unless he wanted to do the involved task of cutting the frame and shortening it.

I don't plan on big lift, all I wanna do is level it and put some bigger tires so it looks more right. Even if I lower it, it's still getting wider tires. It has 235/75/15s all around right now. My moms Escape (read: mini-suv) has 225/75/15s. They look out of place in my eyes.

No, I don't think I'll be in the mud every other weekend, but from what I've read BFG All-Terrains have pretty long lasting tread, and they're priced about the same as a stock replacement tire. In that case, why not go for the bigger, cooler looking, useful in more areas tire?

I'm Bradenton, right by Bradenton Motorsports Park (aka Desoto speedway/drag strip)

I don't have the expertise to cut about 22 iches off my frame, so option 4 is a no option
I think because of how long it is, it'll look best low.

I'm still really torn. I have decided though, if it get's dropped, it'll be a 3 inch front, 5 inch rear drop, and she's getting side exhausts out a 3.5 inch round tip cut to sit flush with the body where it's routed out.

Alright, over the past couple days I've made my finger tips raw, got wire nuts to work properly, found out that wiring is a pain in the ass, learned that my radio is on a different electrical circuit than stock, installed door speakers and proceeded to watch my mirrors shake :D, installed 6x9s and was unimpressed, found a nice EQ, and then modified my old speaker boxes by prying them apart, gutting them, cleaning off all the excess wood, going out and buying a new saw, mutilated the mounting "plate" for my own selfish needs, proceeded to inhale an assload of sawdust that still has me coughing a little, and now have almost professional-ish speakers in boxes! That is my story, and these are my pictures:

For starters, I had to undo the old wiring harness, which wasn't as straight forward as it should have been, mostly 'cause this is my first foray into anything real serious on the stereo

Oldstereospaghetti.jpg

After I got that all sorted out, I moved on to installing my door speakers. This should have been easy, but of course the templates that came with the speakers were off, to say the least. I got smart on the second door and just marked out the holes straight the speakers. I don't need no stinkin' templates!

Then after that, I moved on to my temporary placement of the rear 6x9s. This was before I had boxes made up. It worked alright, but there was no low end coming out of these speakers at all because they were stuck in the open air. Personally, I like this picture. It strikes me as artsy :)

After all that was over, I found out the hard way I blew a fuse... This was followed by a lot of cursing, a short burst of absolute hate for my truck, then as I cooled off I realized what was wrong. Which led to a complete hate of using wirenuts behind the dash before I got everything figured out on making them stick, 'cause they're retarded and stuff... Now I present to you, my working Sony CDX-GT09HP 45x4ch CD/AUX/Radio, in all it's overexposed, but lit up pretty goodness

After this, I went on for a few days seeing how the stereo was, driftin' in the dirt, and overall learning I have a lot to learn about powerslide
nonono.gif
But that led me to my final inspiration to modify my old boxes from my previous set up, of a 3 speaker home theatre system. I used the 2 supporting speakers, and I'm gonna put the center channel in my room :D Here's the boxes I modified

After tearing in the box, prying the 2 parts of it apart, this is what I saw

oldsurroundbox.jpg

I was extremely surprised when opening the box up to find a little speaker, no bigger than 5 inches across was what was giving me very noticeable, albeit very muddy and distorted, bass.

At this point I stopped taking pictures... I blame the sawdust inhalation

What happened next was I used the 6x9 template to trace out the size of opening I needed for the speakers to fit, and then the where I needed to drill, simply for reference, as the holes weren't in the exact right places. This is when I learned I had to go out and buy a Coping Saw (hooray for building up my collection of tools). After I got it I set about cutting out the hole I needed. Also learned that my bed rails make for passable parts of vise grips, with my arm on top. After I (made my left shoulder really sore 'cause it was a weird angle to clamp down on something out) finished cutting on the holes, I had to go at it with a dremmel to sand off the last 1/4 inch I needed to make the speaker flush enough to sound good, but not to go through the sides of the top piece of wood. I've got maybe half an inch on each side of the hole to the end of the wood at every side. Then I drilled the 4 pilot holes for the screws on each "mounting plate" and then mounted my 6x9s with guards

6x9inbox-top.jpg

After I got both speakers screwed in and ready to go, I set about sealing the top plate to the box itself. I ended up going with some non silicone based adhesive caulk. It should do the trick nicely... And before anyone asks, the guard is what hangs over the box, the speaker is nice and in it like it should be. This is a pretty decieving picture

Here's a picture of the finished boxes, with speakers mounted, on our freezer, 'cause the work bench is currently a big box shelf, like it's been since we moved in... 7 years ago

I can honestly say I now have more than just sweat, but now blood to add into the mixture. I just hope there's no tears! Final review comes in tommorow when I install the boxes in the truck and test em out. I mocked it up already before I sealed the boxes, and there should be a very noticeable difference in my low end :D

I'm gonna need me some lift first... but I like it! Minus 4 of the bars running across the bed on top of course haha

Haha yeah I found it on their site and was thinking WTF?? I do like that style though, with the double hoop/double support that goes to the back of the bed.

The rollbars with dual bars instead of one look alot better. But it'd definately be out of place right now. Looks like it drills right into my favorite seat back there too...

I'm starting to get lift jealousy, I was parked next to a newer F150 at stock height yesterday, eating some subway in the bed with my friends (no tables inside) and the bed rails on that were a good 3 inches higher than mine... I want me a 3 inch body lift and 35's to get even lol

I can't stand body lifts larger than an inch. Anything taller and there's that unsightly gap between the frame and body. I guess if you just want it taller but don't care for flex, then a body lift would be fine (not to mention yours is only a RWD, so you wouldn't need flex :p)

It costs more to do a 3/5* drop, then a 4" suspension lift, which will definately clear 35's. That's my long term goal. Shorter term is leveling kit and 33's. Shortest term is just new tires (31's)

*3/5= front drop/back drop. Gotta drop the back by more to keep it even.

It's $600 just for drop I-Beams, as opposed to 400 for a 4 inch lift :p

DJM makes "Dream Beams" which are $400, but that's still pretty pricey.

I'd be careful about putting larger tires on you truck, especially since it's an I6. I'm sure there is some math equation that someone can fill you in on to see what your limit should be.

Cheap, very correct. It's got a 3.08 rear currently, and it's a turd! 4.10s would be great, but I'd probably even out to how I am now if I got 4.10s and 35s. Or even 4.56s. Then I gotta figure out how to regear my speedometer so it reads right, instead of saying I'm doing like 40 when I'm going 10

What's the 2xx/xx/ size of your current tires? I'ma see where 35s would put you to get the same overall gearing.

Based on my crude measurements, mine are 28". I've got like NO tread left. I'm using wear bars for extra traction I'm so low

Any studs that were there are gone. The outside half of my front left tire is smoother than my fender!

Need an alignment, along with new battery, and new tires, and I'd like to do a full tune up, and get the chassis lubed up, and replace the fluid/gasket in the trans, get my front rotors replaced(warped), and fix my gas gauge sending unit... Lotta stuffs
