I didn't know what Steam was.

I'll be looking to play on PS3. Used to have X360, but I sold that. PC gaming, I've never owned a computer with adequate capability. Thanks for the help though guys.

Ahh okay then your only bet would be Bad Company 2. I play that on ps3 and they released an Ultimate edition a couple months ago. Believe it's 40 and you'd get all the dlc except Vietnam expansion.

Are like...... Bad Company 2 & BF2 different games? I thought they were same thing.
A6 - if you want a rough idea what BF3 will be like, give the BF2 demo a go http://www.gamefront.com/files/The_Battlefield_2_Demo/;3876613;;/fileinfo.html 546MB, should run on almost any computer
I can't find the analog sticks on my keyboard. :p

I'll try that out Sharky. Thanks for the link!

Oh god yeah world of difference. Battlefield 2 was released I think 6 years ago. Basically only for PC although they did release a crappy console version later on too.

BC2 was released a year and a half ago I think it was and on console and pc. Bigger player count on pc though.

Battlefield 2 has no destruction, bc2 does.

Ah, that clears it up. :p

I didn't download the Battlefield 2 demo, but did watch the gameplay vid, and it looks like fun. Funnily enough, it was kind of similar to what I imagined Counter Strike to be like? I'll probably try to find a vid on that one, too.

So reading through the thread, MW3 sound like a no go.
How would you guys know exactly? I hear a lot of copy paste from MW2 but I really don't have much info on MW3.

For me, its the reputation that I have experience and still experiencing online. Every one on MW2/BlackOps are perk abusers and racist. No respect or sportsmanship at all.. On Battle field, no one likes campers and that's about it.

I'd like to think of myself as perk utilizer. :sly:

What is up with the attitude of the players though? One of the best feature added to the MW2 was to mute people in the lobby. You are right. Racists & all sorts of name calling that you can imagine. It really annoys me, because these geeks sit at home, act like a tough guy(I mean in double digit IQ) from a headset. You talk like they do in real life, say playing ball at the park, you will pay the consequence. It's just like the people who get really rude driving behind the wheel.

I mean, is it just Call of Duty games? To the Battlefield players, you guys don't have idiots that go off for no good reason?

I'd prefer to get both, but I preordered BF3 and then they announced MW3 and IW FTW! But I don't want to spend the money, although I will probably get MW3 a little while after BF3

I just use perks to get the job done. I don't have OMA for a M203 but I will stop you from planting with a M203. Its commonly on FPS games.. I have seen it on fighting Genre but it isn't as much.

Depends who you get, we have many people on a team but each team is divided into squads of 4 so depends who you get :D
And for anyone who isn't in to Battlefield or hasnt tried it, play it. Battlefield Bad Company two is loads of fun and still is! Also, Battlefield 3 looks AWESOME!

Ah, alright, I misunderstood. Yeah, most players see the One Man Army as a commonly abused perk. Some matches have so much noob tubes & javelins fired, it's not even funny.

I rely on Predator drone, harrier, then Pave Low to boost the number of my kills. I see that as just playing smart, not cheating or taking advantage of anything. That's where I was coming from.
Usually no, because the server/admin normally ends up kicking them
This sounds like a dream come true, right here.

Yeah, rude people has been a regular on MW2, I've just learned to ignore it partialy because I wouldn't understand what half of the people were saying :)

just a newbie question about these things: is it possible to have dedicated servers in MW3 on PS3? And will it make things better eventually?
Or is that what that CoD Elite thing is all about?

PC Gamer I see? Cool, you guys get 64 player servers in BF3 :P
Bit of both - I play COD4/MW2/Blops on the PS3, BC2 on both PC and PS3 and will be getting BF3 on PC ;)

@poolhaas: if MW3 won't have dedi servers, then it'll be impossible on the PS3. Dedicated servers may be possible on the PC, but that all depends whether alterIW will put out a version of alterIWnet for MW3.

Where did I said CoD 4?

CoD4 is MW1 if you were not aware. I would say that Infinity Ward's track record is not showing a pattern of shoveling out Madden-style cookie-cutters.

The difference between Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 should show that your argument that IW will "keep" sending out repetitive games is not based on any evidence. You can't "keep" doing something unless you start in the first place. :dunce:

Sharky.

Why are dedicated impossible on ps3? As crappy as the game was homefront has them on ps3 and xbox?

Activision and IW will keep relaunching MW2 with different names and weapons until people stops buying this crap.

How could you know that if there's only been one COD since MW2?!

That said, I've always enjoyed the BF series more, but I'll reserve judgment on either of the new games until we're much closer to release.

So everyone wants BF3, nice. Hopefully MW3 will be a tad more peaceful without hackers and what not :D

40+ minutes..... I honestly don't know whether to be excited about it, or dread it.

Really liking the Squad Deathmatch. At first I thought you said 4 on 4, I damn near gave up on it.

Thank you for taking the time. 👍 Other battlefield fans, keep them coming please. :)

Hi a6m5, I remember you from somewhere, I think the MW2 thread, maybe MW2 MP. And I think you were really good at it? Haha. So I have a personal reason to win you over to battlefield so you can possibly join my squad. :p

I really like the squad concept in BFBC2. Just 4 players, who can communicate with eachother. You can't talk with the whole team, and I don't see that as a limit, it just makes you emphasize the teamwork on your squad. As you might know, you can choose different classes to play in (engineer, assault medic and recon) - in BF3 it changes a bit and there will be one person to be the squad leader (I don't know how that will work, it was in BF2 I'm told but I never played that game) - so you can balance out your squad because everytime you are killed, you can choose or edit your class. And if you balance it well (I think the best is one from all classes) your squad could take over the whole match.

Teamwork is really important, especially in Rush (like demolition in MW2) with detonating bombs on the enemy base (or defending it). BFBC2 might have really big maps, but in the rush games everything gets centered around these bombs, so that it's not an issue anymore. Plus you can spawn on your squadmates. It's a good tactic to flank the enemy, or get behind them and let your squad spawn on you so you can attack from the back and surprise them. There are alot of strategies you can do in BFBC2 and that is what it makes so good for me. It also depends on whether you are on the attacking or defending side ofcourse. Medics are really important when attacking, because you only have a limited amout of "life tickets" and if you revive someone, you get a life ticket back. And the medic gets points for reviving someone. Assault gets extra points for giving ammo, engineer for repairing a vehicle and recon for spotting people.

Everyone can spot people for aiming at someone and tapping the select button. This is vital for the team because with spotting, you make a triangle appear above their head that your whole team can see. And thus, for a good squad, the recon can sit somewhere in the back, spotting people for you and possibly picking them off. The other members of the squad head towards the bomb, with the medic reviving the other members and the assault taking care of ammo. Ofcourse it can go wrong with everybody dying, but it's such a nice concept IMO and if there's a survivor, the rest of the squad can spawn on him. I might not be the best player (by far ) but I enjoy it alot!

For me, this game is so much more rewarding than MW2. Also, the atmosphere is much better because of the great audio. The environment really influences how weapons sound (in a house echoing for example) opposing to MW2 where the weapons sound like toys and the only variable is the volume of the sound. Just watch some sttrategy vids of the game on youtube and the new BF3 vids and see if you like it. Feel free to ask if you have more questions about the game, but I think watching footage of someone playing and explaining what they do helps alot too. :)

MW3(2.5) looks dreadful compared to BF3, but no doubt in sales MW3 will still outsell BF3, but that i don't care about as if it takes all the kids and noob idiots away from playing BF3 then I'm happy! :)

watching the BF3 footage at E3 i nearly wet myself it looked that great, and all the new things they are introducing look great! not much of a pc gamer but, will be getting BF3 on PC and PS3, well i've them both pre-ordered already :)

First of all, I appreciate you taking the time to write this up for me. 👍

After participating in this thread, I've been leaning towards getting both games, and your explanation actually reinforces that decision even more. While I like most of what I've been hearing about BF3, my concern so far has been its' house rules, if you will. Things like spotting, reviving, etc., in attempt to add more to the game, I think they actually ended up adding their own unique rules to the game? Those features are realistic and not at all realistic at the same time.

I do think that you are right that BF3 is going to be a great game, and also that watching gameplay footage from the current game will be helpful. I plan on doing more of that. I will also be keeping my eyes peeled open for both MW3 & BF3 reviews. Reviews sold me on CoD4, and MW2 was a continuation of that for me. They can be very helpful & insightful. Thanks again for your help. :)

P.S. I'm decent on CoD4 & MW2, but on BF3, I will be that noob who will cost you matches. At least for first few weeks. The game sounds very foreign to me.

No problem ;) . About the spotting and reviving, you don't have to do it. The first couple of months i played bfbc2 i didn't even know what it was. it's just a really handy tool for if you see an enemy in the distance that you can't kill yet. Chances are big that someone else from your team will kill him. In Cod, this feature would be worthless because if you would try to spot someone youll be killed instantly, due to the environment being so small. It is never forced on you to spot, it's just a handy tool. I see spotting as telling your whole team where an enemy is. But the spotting traingle goes away after 5-10 secs, so it's not permanent.

And for the reviving, ofcourse that's not realistic. But i wouldn't worry about that if you play Cod. Would you call all those perks realistic? ;) if you want realism you should play flashpoint i think. But i really think that spotting and reviving adds more to the game. You help others (and get rewarded for it) which fits perfectly in the teamwork philosophy the game has set. I didn't know bf was so much about teamplay when i bought it. But the teamwork was unexpectedly alot of fun and rewarding for me. And all the other nice things like map design, graphics, vehicles helped with that. Maybe read a review about bfbc2? Reviews might explain what this game has to offer better than i did. ;)

Everything you said, I think is true. My only problem is that both my online friends & real life friends are pretty much set on MW3. Having said that, I was at grocery store check out line today. Cashier asks me, are you getting the third one? I was like, "what?" He was referring to my MW2 t-shirt, I told him I was. He goes, you should get BF3, it's going to be way better. I told him I'm planning on getting both, he was down with that!

Ahh yes that's an important factor in what game you are getting ofcourse. I suspect that after BF3 and MW3 come out, the majority will prefer BF. As you illustrate there, it's noticeable already. Funny story by the way! :) What I see now is MW2 with a couple of small differences + updates + other setting = MW3. There's nothing wrong with that, but if you compare it to BF, the development is much bigger. Also the preorders now are favoring BF3 more. I think it's a good idea that you get both, so you can still play with your friends and make some new friends in BF3. ;)

My friends are split over MW3 and BF3, and we had some discussions about it. It's all a matter of taste to a certain extent. What I think now is happening is that BF3 has so much more to offer than MW3 that for alot of COD players it becomes obvious that BF3 is the better developed game. That's my theory. We'll see what happens. :)

MW3 is basically MW2 with new weapons, attachments, and perks. I'm also not buying the story. The Russians trying to invade America for a THIRD time? ridiculous. And invading EUROPE ASWELL?

BF3 - Much better :) I like battlefield more because it relies more on teamwork and actually thinking through decisions and such. CoD is just, run, shoot, die.
