Panic Over!

After play.com order failed to show this morning I went on yell.com and started ringing round some independent retailers. After 4 or 5 attempts with no success I rang a shop about 20 miles away. Conversation went like this:

Me: Hello mate do you have Gran Turismo 5 in stock?
Shop Guy: Yes.
Me: Will you sell me a copy today?
Shop Guy: Yes.
Me: Mate your a ****ing legend!
Shop Guy: Yes.

I have a funny feeling the consoles get delivered via a different method to the games. ie. Consoles arrived yesterday / Today. Games arriving tomorrow. (Hopefully)

Yeah, that would be Parcel Force I suppose and they come around with a truck which would have it's own schedule to the postie.

Just received a phonecall from my local Gamestop and they told me my copy was ready, so I am off to pick it up right now! Over 5 years of waiting coming to an end!

To be fair, they have to do it this way really. The game isn't released until tomorrow, so it's not like they're treating you bad.

Just wish they had treated me like their other customers who got the game today. Am I any different to them?

I think you're looking at it wrong... 24th is the PROPER release date. Getting it on the 23rd is a bonus, don't see how you can blame them for releasing the game on its release date...

Postie has just dropped it through the letter box. Update is now downloading. I shall have some lunch whilst it installs and then it's playtime.

Work will have to wait - the joys of working from home :)

I ordered my copy of the standard edition back in august however i left the house house this morning and forgot to pick up my mobile so the wife cant phone me and let me know if anything has arrived for me or not:guilty:

Its goin to be a very long day at work today and even more so if when i get in later and nothin is waiting for me from Gameseek.

I finish at 4pm though so i'm usually home again about 4.30 so i only have 4hrs 15mins to go now.............:crazy:;)

But this is more the fault of Royal Mail surely? If RM were any good retailers could have guaranteed that everyone's post took exactly 2 days to arrive, and posted monday. Your package is high value, so comes with guaranteed next day delivery (i assume).

Retailers are so concerned to get everyone's pre-orders on time that they send a day early as a compensation. They can't get away with sending a guaranteed next day delivery a day early and guaranteeing they are breaking a release date.

It sure does suck though, and i kindof know how you feel as I was so excited to get mine today but it hasn't arrived as far as i know. If it doesn't tomorrow then i will cry...a lot.

Nope I'm looking at it that some of their paying customers have received the game today yet some other paying customers wont receive it until tomorrow. I'm not complaining that I didn't get it the day before release. I'm unhappy that some of their customers get it today and I won't.

There is mention of an update (100++ MB).
Does it make a difference to gameplay?

Reason I am asking is that I don't have broadband(yet, slowww BT) and I don't really want to waste my mobile internet allowance if it isn'e necessary.
 
Just to let all you buys that ordered with play that I recieved the confirmation e-mail on Friday that it was being dispatched (it isn't part of a bundle)...just got it through the door, hope all you guys are as lucky!

I'm in Scotland by the way.

Is it possible to download patches from an external source and install from USB? This would be a perfect scenario of when this is necessary! If all patches were for online only things then it wouldn't matter, but often patches change single player modes and glitches etc.

Text message received by phone, translated from dutch to english:

Gran Turismo 5 Special Editions arrived at Nedgame Amersfoort!, your order can be picked up till 1-12-2010.

So after work (3 1/2 hours), i`m racing home since i forgot my wallet... duh, and then race back to the gameshop to get the game before closing time.
 
I'll be getting the bus 20miles tomorrow to go to a real shop and manually collect a copy, using actual paper money. wish me luck.
 
ordered from shopto, im in canterbury, no gt5 for me :( postie came and went...well there may still be hope, it was young boy on a bike who passed by my house with nothing for me, sometimes the van comes to deliver stuff left over late in the evening...
 
Ordered a CE from Amazon UK last week. I've not received an e-mail from amazon but just did a check on their website and it does say dispatched. Roll on tomorrow!

BTW also received a text from Game saying the signature edition i pre-ordered is available from collection from tomorrow. If only it was today :(
