My concern here is, why do we still have PAL, NTSC, and NTSC-JP? Couldn't be just as easy to have 1 region unlocked version? Then, if you did decide to play online, then you can play players in your region, or include the entire world.

I for one, would like to play others outside the North American region, without having to purchase a HDTV and another copy of GT5 to do so.

I will buy both versions. For the reason I just explained.
I think GT5 will have global server, Killzone 2 has global server, GTA4 has global server, there`s no reason for a regional server in GT5. I`ll buy the EU version but i`m sure i`ll play Nascar races with people like you from USA.

I expect the same for GT5. Off course some smaller countries might not be so fortunate

In a move that will delight fans of online shooting in Australia, the massively multiplayer first-person shooter, MAG, will be hosted locally. This brings MAG in line with Killzone 2's dedicated Aussie servers.

Additionally, SCE Australia & New Zealand announced that MAG will be available on February 11 - a couple weeks behind the US and UK release date.

Alon Isaacs, Director of Online Services, SCE Australia & New Zealand commented, "MAG brings simultaneous 256 player online play to PS3 for the first time. This challenges all elements of the online environment to deliver a responsive and quality experience for players. With 256 players all accessing a game server at the same time, every component of the infrastructure from the server to the database and particularly the network must perform optimally to ensure there are no bottlenecks."

"Like Killzone 2, the global server set will include MAG servers based in Australia, demonstrating Sony Computer Entertainments commitment to do everything it can to ensure that consumers will get an optimal experience when playing this ground breaking title online."

Global servers have their advantages, but depending on where they actually are (I mean, they call them global, but they're not omnipotent!) there can be huge differences in latency for different world regions, on top of the local service shortcomings.

A shooter like MAG (dependent on reaction times, lag is really important) would really suffer with such a model, as certain players will always have problems.

Having individual servers for the various "regions" of the internet (not necessarily the same as geographical separations) would be best for consistent lag between players of this region (depending on their connection, service provider etc.).

What would be even better is if you could choose your server by location / ping / whatever - I'm fed up with being mollycoddled, I can make my own decisions thanks!

It seems you can host your own custom games in Killzone 2, wonder how this will work in GT5, with all the millions of people doing likewise???!
Must have a room full of server units!

Off course they will have a Global server that the local servers past on the info to

Eventually the servers will probably be shutdown one day as popularity wanes...

I believe Griffith500 means omnipresent :-)

I imagine there will be servers scattered around the world, but that they will appear as one to us. I wonder if they've got any improvements to the managing of other cars when you're playing on-line so we don't get cars dancing around in front of us.

Well, I imagine this and the confirmed date will be revealed in August!

Actually, I'm not all that suprised... That way, the difference between the EU and the NA release seems just that much more realistic.

Maybe November 2nd was only the release date for the JP version or something. If that's pushed back as well, I'll just have to call PD 'Perpetually Delayed' again*jk*

i'll buy F1 2010 to keep me occupied. or get a life.
hopefully it isnt a 3 week gap as Sony France have suggested :(

Play.com is a UK site (I think). US release is still 2nd November 2010 as far as I am concerned. But I dont understand how 'France' will get it 2 whole days earlier. Come on... France?

And your faith shall be rewarded! Yes, I really meant omnipresent - though I wasn't wrong :p

I can see GT5 taking over my life, irrespective of where I am, what I'm doing - I gotta get home and RACE!

Netcode is very very very tricky for racing games. I hope for better "prediction" and handling of errors in that prediction!

I think release dates are still unreliable at this stage. I'm fairly sure the announcement at E3 was for the US only.

I have imported quite a few games in the past. But I will probably just wait it out for GT5. As others have pointed out, getting the right DLC for imported games can be an issue. I can wait another couple of weeks... I think.
