Nascar just needs to make sure that they prevent drivers from sandbagging in next year's all-star race.

The pit gimmick would eliminate that. They sandbagged knowing that they would be in the front for the final segment.

Anyone catch Wind Tunnel last night and hear what Humpy Wheeler said about the length of the races? He basically said times have changed and NASCAR races are too long for today's audience, that because of spectacular video games and spectacular movies people aren't interested in long races as much as they use to be.

Dragging a race out for four hours is fairly needless. Smaller, more bite-sized races are easier to digest. Have them shuffle around for an hour or two and have a winner.

I'm a huge F1 fan and F1 races are typically something like an hour and a half or so, which feels about right. I also follow Grand-Am races, which are closer to three hours (except for the 24 Hours of Daytona, of course), and I feel that it's running a bit long. I actually sort of like the format of some other series wherewith they have two or more races on the same track on the same day, each being maybe forty-five minutes or whatever (depending on the series), which is nice because you can watch the guys battle tooth-and-nail for basically the whole race and then you have an outcome in a timely manner. If you drag a race out for half a dozen hours, there isn't much point in people risking anything for most of that time, so you can basically just play it safe until the last segment of the race when the positions really start to count for something.

The races are too long. I don't think they should shorten them too much but maybe time some of them instead of making them all a certain amount of laps.

And something that might ignite a flame under their butts is rewarding average position throughout the race? This would cause them to constantly fight for position. Not saying it will ever happen, and I'm not sure how it would work but just a thought.

That's what NHRA/IHRA are for 1/4 mile now cut down to 1000 ft. NASCAR was built to see if a car could last xxx number miles not how fast it can go for a short period. If I go to a race I want my money's worth (have you seen ticket prices).

Anyone else think the front looks like a Jaguar? My apologies if this has been pointed out before.
I do definatley love the look of the 2013 Cup and Nationwide cars though :)

Don't think I've heard anyone point that out before. Usually, the overall opinion seems to be that it looks Aston Martin like.

NHRA/IHRA shortened there races? Never got the impression those were too long.

2013 Camry has been revealed. Not too many good angles so far.

That new body shape for cars, particulary the Ford, reminds me of the early 90's cars quite a lot.

Great looking cars, only one potential problem I see. Am I the only one who remembers the constant whining from one manufacturer after the next as to who has an advantage due to the shape of the nose on the car? And NASCAR giving one after the next an "exception" to run a new nose. Unfortunately that is what I see happening here. Don't get me wrong, I would love the cars to look much more stock than the current spec cars, that's why they call them stock cars isn't it? I hope I am wrong, but I sure see the potential for this same problem to come up again.

I don't think the problem will occur. While there are differences with each manufacturer, the drag coefficient will probably end up being about the same for all of them.

Also hearing that the Aero-push will still be there, as engineers have said it's hard to get rid of.

Pretty good. Considering this is the only decent model in the Toyota lineup in the states, its ok. Not exactly grossed out like the guy above me appears to be, just "meh".

Well I don't like the street car either, so the racer isn't much better.

Fair enough, just seems like you've stated the obvious more then once when it comes to this car (which is hard to miss ) and seem slightly dissappointed. Sad question though is, what would look at all, any better? There's nothing but boring cars from Toyota at present here in the states, Camry just seems the least (but not by much) boring.

NHRA races legnth was stortened from 1,320 feet to 1,000 feet for ONLY Top Fuel Funny Car and Top Fuel Dragster classes. All other classes still run 1/4 mile.

They decided to do this after Scott Kalitta died June 21st, 2008, during the SuperNationals in Englishtown, New Jersey.

The change started on July 11, 2008, at the Mile High Nationals in Denver. They said this was a temporary change at the time, but that was nearly 4 years ago, so I don't know.

This was definitely done in the interest of safety, NOT to make the races shorter. Why would they want to make a 4 second race shorter!?

Nothing. So maybe they should make one? 💡

Looks way longer and thinner than the others shown thus far.
