I don't like looking at Danica Patrick just as camera fodder or eye candy. All of that just makes her seem like she's good only at drawing attention and not much else. You know- like winning at Motegi in IndyCar, having strong runs at the Indy 500, being Rookie of the Year in IndyCar, and stuff like that means nothing. Yeah. There will be attention to her, but I'm just hoping she can prove herself in NASCAR as she's done in NASCAR. It will be much tougher in NASCAR than IndyCar. Still, I'm pulling for her in every race because I'm a fan of hers. It's about supporting your favorite racer. And I'm with Danica every race, every lap.

No matter who your favorite drivers or teams are, I wish everyone in the top three series- Trucks, Nationwide, and Cup- the best of luck in all of the racing at Daytona this weekend. Go put on a great show and don't hold back. Be safe and have fun.

USA Today
Childress quickly said Friday that there are no intentions to take the No. 3 back to Cup with Dillon, who could drive some races in NASCAR's top level next season.

Unless something has changed it seems he won't use it in the Cup series. I personally wouldn't mind as it seems Austin has a good amount of talent where he won't turn it into the 43(hasn't won since '99)

This conversation got me thinking about which numbers have been retired in NASCAR, so I did a quick search. I found this on wikipedia (I know, I know...) under "Squad Numbers":

In NASCAR, only once has a number been officially retired; that is in the Whelen Modified Tour, where number 61 is retired for Richie Evans after his death in 1985. NASCAR unofficially retired the number 3 in honor of the late Dale Earnhardt, Sr. after his death on the track at the 2001 Daytona 500. Earnhardt's old team changed to the number 29, and the replacement driver (Kevin Harvick) has driven the 29 car ever since. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. made two special appearances in a number 3 car in the Busch Series in 2002 and again in the renamed Nationwide Series on July 2, 2010 at Daytona, but otherwise the number 3 was absent from all three national touring series until 2009, when Austin Dillon drove a number 3 in the Camping World Truck Series.[11] Dillon is the grandson of Earnhardt's longtime friend and car owner Richard Childress, and he drives for Richard Childress Racing.

I think It should be also stressed that while the 3 is heavily associated with Dale Sr, it was originally Richard's Number.

Why was the slow truck on the racing line? Looks like it would have been a single truck spin if he wasn't there.

Surprised they haven't snuck a Danica reference in yet.

Anyone else glad that Leffler's out? I just never liked that guy and it really made me hate him when he intentionally wrecks James Buescher (before I hated him too) and makes an idiotic excuse "My car just got away from me"

:boggled: Maybe because she doesn't race in the truck series?

I'll just say it's no shocker he is driving for Kyle Busch.

Edit: Found Waldo Ward Burton

Good to see him back in NASCAR.👍

That was sort of the point. Don't think I've seen a piece of NASCAR programming this week that didn't talk about her.

Funny enough, it brings this famous quote to mind:

"Just can't stand being number 2"

Edit: Found Waldo Ward Burton

I was happy when I first heard he was gonna be in the race. It just wasn't NASCAR without hearing that Hot potato mouth :p

I don't really keep up with Truck Series (don't really keep up with Nationwide all that much, either, but I know more drivers in Nationwide). What got me watching is I wanted to see if Austin was going to be in the Truck Series as well as Nationwide.

Austin's a great driver, that's for sure. Probably going to be rooting for him in Nationwide.

I'd like to see NASCAR make a rule against racers racing in both Nationwide and the Cup series. :/ It just seems.. cheap. Both that it gives them an advantage in the Cup series and it also sucks when you see seasoned vets dominating startups. :indiff:

I know people don't want Nationwide to be thought of as a "second tier NASCAR", but that's what people think of it, so it IS cheap for Carl and company to still race it.

Well they kind of did with the drivers having to select what series they actually want to collect points in. Its Driven Carl to (so far) an almost non existant Nationwide Schedule and Brad also running a partial schedule. Cup drivers have been dabling in Nationwide for a long time, its just been more worse by the fact that they've actually taken championships while driving for well funded cup teams they already drive for in cup.

Anyone else glad that Leffler's out?

Oh, Leffler wrecked the 18?

I'm unable to watch the race at the moment, But I'll definitely have to catch the replay later tonight now.

Probably a silly question but will the cup cars keep their new grille openings all season long? I don't particularly see the need for them outside restrictor plate tracks.

Oh, Leffler wrecked the 18?

Well, it was more like he was taken out but yeah.

I wouldn't worry about the Fords in the 500 at all, because all the best restrictor plate drivers are in Chevy's.

BIG CRASH! Miguel Paludo's #32 truck got owned hard. Great news- he's fine. No contact involved, though.

Nasty one. Just brutal.

Buescher says on the radio that he made no contact but it looked like the Trucks rear tires were off the ground.

Thank God for safer barriers.

However, we did lose someone in that wreck.

;_; RIP, the orange cone.
