@JohnBM01 The shorter game translated to about 15-20 minutes less time spent.

Personally, I think they should keep the 48 minutes length, but spread the games out. Why should they play back-backs or even back-to backs-to backs? I'm sure the the schedulers, sponsors, owners, and arenas can accommodate a more spread out season.

Another Aussie was picked up by the Knicks today, and 99% chance will be sent straight to the D-League likely not to see the NBA this season, maybe ever. Jordan Vandenberg is he, and he is a 7'1" centre.

In case you haven't heard, Steve Nash is ruled out for the season with a recurring nerve injury. He also said this may be his last season, so this effectively could be the end of his career.

Being a Suns fan, I was initially very, very pissed off as he was traded to LA. As the seasons went on, it became clear that he was supposed to be traded to an immediate contender while PHX would go into full rebuild. But unfortunately that didn't happen. The Lakers completely fell apart (as did Steve) while PHX took the fast track to making a playoff team with Goran, his backup, at the helm. Steve was one of my first role models, and the main reason I started watching basketball. To see his career end this way, on the former shell of one of his biggest rivals, saddens me. He was one of the most deserving players for a ring, but sadly that will never happen...

Thanks for everything, Steve. It's been fun.

Victor Oladipo is also out indefinitely with a facial fracture, not a good pre-season so far.

Edit: Bolderdash! The Clippers have cut the best small forward on their roster (you can't tell me Matt Barnes is better than Joe Ingles at this stage in their careers) and the Jazz, despite the roster already being at 15, cut Brock Motum due to a logjam at the position.:grumpy: And just a couple days after signing him, the Knicks waived Jordan Vandenberg.:odd:

Yeah saw the Ingles and Motum thing yesterday on the fox sports news ticker. Really disappointing for both. Hopefully they'll get another opportunity someone else.

Ingles said he turned down Philly for the Clips, hopefully there is still demand for him. I see Motum going back to Europe for at least another year.

Remember- the new season begins tomorrow night. You NBA fans better get psyched for when the season tips off proper starting tomorrow.

On Nash, that really saddens me. He's been one of my favorite players for years and it feels like signing with LA has just completely tainted him ending on a high note. I read he spent 2 days with some Phoenix staff though, & was feeling pretty good just shooting around. Dat Phoenix fountain of youth. In all honesty, I hope he signs a 1 day deal and retires a Sun. He's done so much for that team. He deserves it.

On my team, Dallas in talks to buyout JJ Barea's contract to replace Mekel. Charlie V also made the team so it's looking like a one last run for the vets similar to '11.

I used to be a Nash hater for long time(Spurs fan, Tony Parker fan, lot of friendly trash talks w/Suns fans), but have really appreciated his game since his last couple of years with the Suns. Like I need to tell you guys, but modern game is heavy on athleticism. It's rare to see guys like Nash, whose offensive craft is so refined, and so consistent. So many guards(GUARDS!), you see them shoot & you find yourself going "are you really a professional basketball player?." Nash obviously isn't one of those guards. NBA need more like him.

It sure is looking like it, but I'm hoping this isn't the end of his career.

It's most likely the end of his career man.

This guys is freaking 40 years old, he's ten years past the wrong side of 30.

It was fun while it lasted.

That didn't take long @Spacegoat! Ingles was picked up by the Jazz, sounds like he's guaranteed to be on their 15 man roster and will likely never see an NBA minute as the 3rd wheel behind Haywood and Hood barring maybe garbage minutes.

Tonight is the night! The new season of NBA basketball tips off tonight. Thirty teams will battle each other as sixteen of those teams will be good enough to make the playoffs come April 2015. Let the journey begin!

Good luck to all of your team(s) this season.

Was just thinking about something watching old Heat clips a little while ago. How the hell did we win anything with Mike Bibby on our team? That's why the Mavs won.

AD balling out of his mind today, holy moly that stat line.

I'll just be happy if the Pels can just finish this season with a positive record :D

27pts/17reb/9blks ain't no joke.
And Omer Asik had 14pts/17 rebounds as well.
Ryan Anderson had 22 points as well.
That frontcourt scares me. :scared:

Randle said he wanted to be the next Kobe. He done did it wrong.

In seriousness, better than originally thought an achilles.

Same.

And nice stat to come out of that game. Anthony Davis & Omer Asik: first teammates with at least 15 rebs & 5 blks each in the same game since Tim Duncan & David Robinson in 1998.

Sofoklis Schortsanitis is the biggest dude ever. But that's not NBA.

Holy crap, Anthony Davis almost had a triple double with blocks? That's insane. I TOLD you that guy was going to be serious. He was the only guy on Team USA that looked worth his salt. MVP-watch for sure.

I'm glad to just see everyone back in the right position/roles, Omer at the 5 with the brow at the 4 with Anderson to slot in anytime and give us that outside shooting 👍

Same.

We won our season opener with authority. Houston starts this season with a back-to-back. Our victory was a 108-90 blowout at the Los Angeles Lakers. Up next for *my team, your team, AMERICA'S TEAM* is a trip to Salt Lake City to take on the Utah Jazz.

On a sad note, Julius Randle of the Lakers suffered a brutal leg injury and was carted off. Spare a thought for him.

Elsewhere...

* This night would be a good one for my home/native state of Texas since at least one team would start 1-0. The game before HOU at LAL was a good match between Dallas at San Antonio. The defending champion (and short-handed) Spurs held off the Dalaas Mavericks 101-100.

Congratulations to all other winners. The season is under way, and every game from here on out matters. So go try to win some games to help your playoff cause come April!

OH MY GOD did you guys see Julius Randle's leg break? You can't really see it happen (it looks like an ankle sprain but you can see a bulge on the front of his shin that suggests a broken tibia) but you can hear it snap like a twig when he plants on it.

What is with these freak leg breaks? Do shoes have too much traction? I feel so bad for Randle. He had some promise.

That said, the Lakers are going to be terrible this season. Jeremy Lin had a good night and is going to have to rekindle the Linsanity and take some of the load off of Kobe. But the Lakers are still going to be god awful.

Something tells me we might see that spurs vs mavericks will happen again come April.
And lets go Damian Lillard and #ripcity!

NBA is back! Love it! You have 3 games on opening night, one has a dude going for a monster game (Davis), one is decided by 1pt (in which Baynes had a highlight block, denying a Parsons dunk attempt at the rim:D) and the third features a butt hurt Kobe starting fights with his old team mates because he's losing.

AD balling out of his mind today, holy moly that stat line.

I'll just be happy if the Pels can just finish this season with a positive record :D

It'd be nice to see what they can do in the West if they stay can stay healthy (and I hope they do).

You're forgetting he had 3 steals and no turnovers as well! Buuuuut it was against the Magic who don't even have Oladipo right now.

Randle said he wanted to be the next Kobe. He done did it wrong.

In seriousness, better than originally thought an achilles.

Poor bugger, hope he heals fast.

Same.

But Asik didn't have 15pts?

I used to think that they may be due to poor diet growing up? These days, I also suspect too much muscle strength & athleticism taking toll on the bones, but I am the farthest thing from a doctor!

The Magic are going to be real good in 3 years. Would not be surprised if they made deep playoff runs.

I don't think it's poor diet. I mean, I don't know. George's leg broke because it dug into the stanchion and bent at an odd angle. Randle's leg broke because his foot was planted and the sneaker traction didn't provide his leg and give when his other leg smashed into it, producing a force at an awkward angle.

Maybe Randle had an undiagnosed stress fracture. When the force was applied on the anterior portion of his tibia, it could have snapped at that weak point. Maybe the training modalities are not stressing the bones in enough directions for the bone matrix to be strong on all sides. That's a huge stretch, however. They should probably give these guys an x-ray to inspect for microfractures and things like that. I think it's more likely that these guys may have damage they pass off as shin splints or things like that.

Team mates with at least 15 rebounds and 5 blocks each, Asik had 17 boards. 👍

Damn Butler is ruled out for tonight, and for a couple of weeks.

We definitely need him to control Melo and limit Lebron.

Though I think we can win in NY, it maybe tough to beat Cavs at home without him.

Unless Rose decides to play like his 2011 MVP form and Gasol channels his 2007-2009 form and Noah gets off his slump.

THIS JUST IN...

...according to ESPN's Bottom Line, Julius Randle is done for the season after last night's injury. He'll have season-ending leg surgery. Being a rookie and suffering a season-ending injury is just terrible. Best wishes to Julius Randle in his recovery.
