Good grief! Reactions of an F1 driver there!
He did very well to avoid death! 👍

Thats why its important to be alert at the wheel.

That was filmed about a half hour from my place. Its some great driving by the camera man, but the 400 series highways are nuts in the winter (drive on 2 of them daily) with people commuting and forgetting that snow means less traction.

On friday I saw a transport slide sideways into a concrete bridge support on the drivers side and catch on fire. I just hope the driver died from the impact before the flames got him.

Yup that was filmed right by my place. Great reaction by the camera car and the car in front of him was even luckier. Hmm I've driven up and down that highway hundreds of times and that would have to be one of my worst nightmares.

Love the English voiceover guy - "on a highway not far from Ontario" hmmm....

How do people around Toronto forget how to drive in the snow in the 8 months between 'crappy road' seasons? I was there during the first snowfall a few years ago and drove past 7 accidents in a 1 hour trip

If that bit of video were from a movie you can bet they would have done it using CGI (it even looks CGI'ish), its like something out of an action flick and would have cost quite a fair bit to do for real.... but in this case

Pretty great driving by everyone on that side of the road but I'm still wondering why that guy had a camera mounted in his car?

Robin.

A lot of Americans are doing this nowadays to aid in insurance claims or something I think.
👍

Makes sense, seeing as there's lots of insurance fraud where some people brake on purpose so you hit the back of them etc.

I was expecting some veteren driver when the interview popped up but it's some fresh faced dude, really really well done to him!

Not many people bother with winter tires. It's actually very dangerous.

Exactly. Too bad we don't have the law to force people using winter tires.

On the video, good thing is that he braked faster than the semi or he had no where to escape.

Local media spoke to the driver. The man who was recording the video saw the trailer begin to jack-knife and was already slowing to let the semi pass him in case something bad happened. Good planning gave him the space once the cab jumped the median.

It was in a VW Tiguan, for the curious.

Incredible footage!

Amazing what a bit of awareness and planning can do. Just goes to show just how avoidable accidents are when you are driving defensively.

Sometimes it's just shear luck. As you can see from this video, these two cars didn't stand a chance!

Seven people died in this one. Including a toddler.

Thats not good. But I have to admit, I did have a little grin on my face at the slow motion tankslapper the van coming towards the camera had.

Yeah, the van ended up on it's side about 75' away. It was being driven by an older couple.

Just spend the 8 months between the crappy road seasons here and you'll see that they still suck at driving here. Ontario is by far the worst place I've ever driven in my life, followed by Maryland as a close second.

I spent Sep-Jan in Toronto, so did get to see my share of morons. Dont feel too special though, there are plenty of people around here who need to pull their head out of their 🤬 when it starts to rain

How did that youtube truck just swerve immediately into the opposite lane on (I assume from the look of things) in a dry, nice weather?

That just looks like the stuff of nightmares...

It's probably ice. Ice has this nasty ability to blend into the road so once you drive over it the only thing you can really do is hold on and pray that you get grip once again.

Kudos to both drivers who avoided the truck.

I bet all of them were thinking the same thing : "Oh s:censored:!"
