It's disappointing as **** to me imo.
The physics and handling are actually surprisingly okay, which i was worried about, but the customization...
So many cars have so few parts, and even then, some parts can't be used unless you use other parts, the customization is so locked down it's ridiculous. Not to mention trying to make a unique car is damn near impossible it feels like. It's mostly just overfenders and carbon lips.
The rim selection is horrible, the only real useful wheels are the Wantanabes. With how much Speedhunters have covered drifting and Japanese car culture, all we have are 2 useful wheels and a bunch of Fifteen52 stuff that's just copies of other rims?
This game isn't built on a real car culture, just the horrible "Stance" car culture that's pretty much the chararcters portrayed in the cut scenes. A bunch of Dudebros with flatbrims who use stupid Lingo and say Bae in real life for some reason. Even the starting Honda Civic design you can get shows exactly who this game is being really pandered to.
With Speedhunters curating this, I expected far, far better. I expected the typical Rocket Bunny showcase, but I expected everything and extreme customization, not a few body kits for some cars, or overfenders. You'd think with the 65 Mustang, you could turn it into a Shelby Trans Am Knock off right?
NOPE, HOONICORN OR NOTHING. Yep, your only option is that gaudy widebody thing. No chrome bumper removal or headlight covers or Ram Air hood. Just the wannabe Mad Max airfilter and Widebody.
But what about cars like these?
Nope! There is a few decent Time Attack aero kits for the S2000 and others, but no fixed headlights, hardly any simple bumpers, it's just pathetic how we were told amazing customization but cars end up just like GTA where some have more than others. I expected proper Bosozoku, Drift, Time Attack, Drag, VIP, everything to be included, even just a little. But no. And the Vinyl editor? Even GTA V has a better Japanese car scene appreciation! But how can you include one of the wildest Lamborghini Owners and take his Diablo from this
to this?
They completely dropped the option of making an amazing, ridiculous Boomcraft kitted, Bosozoku Lamborghini, and even adding proper Bosozoku exhaust. Sure they're stupid, that's the point.
But what if You want to create an authentic looking drift car like this?
Well get ready to use nothing but Hoonigan and whatever other "brands" Like ZillaLife or whatever other cringey companies they have in. Making something like that car, with the stickers like that is pretty much impossible. The decals available are pretty much just the stuff you see on horrible sticker bomb cars. There's maybe only 15/20 nice, useful decals like Morohoshi's, some of the BN Sports and Speedhunters brands. Other than that, it's just Dudebrofest.
Overall, if you think StanceNation is the best car site on earth and your dream is a Rocket Bunny kitted FRS sponsored by Hoonigan, this is your game.
If you actually wanted a unique car game with a whole range of car cultures, or to have a game if you like Bosozoku, Kaido racers, VIP cars or more, go buy GTA V on PC.
