I see your another one of those circle jerkers for only good things to say about the game rather than criticising things that are fundamentally terrible decisions in gaming. Do please carry on though, it's entertaining me.
That attitude, though. Really? :odd:

While most of us, like me, will comment on this thread about the good things about the upcoming title, I do acknowledge some of the downsides, such as EA not learning that much about what happened to SimCity and the effects of making it online only.

People talk about EA servers closing after 1 years or so but the FIFA 12 servers are still running for nearly 4 years now and past Battlefield games, this was decided on the basis that many people still play the game online. So if EA see that shutting down the servers would cause many people to stop playing the game then hopefully it would change their minds and keep the servers running.

Don't forget the Mustang Boss 302 :D

Unfortunately I can imagine EA pulling off a scummy microtransaction here: "Want to download a patch which allows you to continue playing NFS offline once we take down the servers? That will be $9.99/€7.99/£7.99!" :scared:

That would never happen! You think EA would price that so low?

So they just finished a round of answering a load of questions on twitter. Plenty of info we already know. I suppose it will be media silence until end of September now, no car list for us.

Aplogies for attitude before, i've reduced the frequency though ;), therapy is working, (lol).

Some more off-screen gameplay. I suggest muting the video. Ridiculously annoying and unnecessary commentary but some nice things are shown.

The physics are better than rivals for sure, but why hasn't anyone tried adjusting the grip yet? I want to see how the cars behave with the slider set to grip. Also that 180sx gets up over 100 pretty quick, so either it's already tuned a decent amount or the overblown acceleration from the previous games has returned :S

Am I the one bothered by the shameless promotion of SpeedHunters' idols?

Magnus Walker? Of course, I want a clothes designer who got rich and now "transforms" Porsches to tell me what to do, dressed in his obnoxious "LOOK-AT-ME, I'M A TRY-HARD" stye. Ken Block? A man famous for some admittedly awesome viral videos and ZILCH results in WRC. The mobster in Luke Huxham's "Underground Hero"? That's even kind of offensive. Why the heck should I be interested in a freaking criminal and why should I look up to him? Because the bros of contemporary "car culture" tell me he's awesome? Might as well go the extra mile and throw Pablo Escobar into the mix, he raced some awesome Porsches and Renaults and had all the "Underground Hero" and "Love to hate me" swag that Huxham attributes to that criminal.

I had high hopes for the involvement of SpeedHunters in the game design but I didn't expect them to 🤬 it up so badly. Yeah, great customization and all, but if that's what they wanna promote as "car culture" then by all means count me out of such culture, I wan't nothing to do with rich posers and criminals.

I wonder of we'll be able to rice out our cars like in Underground 2 (I didn't play the first)? It would be funny to see excessive sound systems, ugly roof scoops, hydraulics, and my "favorite" spinners return to the series.

As someone I know put it "The new Need for Speed game is composed of eveything wrong with the car scene." Then he went on about how Underground is basically the same case, but gameplay was still good. And I don't disagree with him at all, I think he too said this but I think the problem is Speedhunters.

Eh, it's not like they had a choice but who else would they realistically choose to use/partner with/feature in a Need for Speed game? You could only really have the OIOIOISTANCENAYSHUUUNNNNNNNNNbottomoutoverapoptart bros or the plain stupid Carthrottle kiddies trying to be auto journos by posting memes.

NFS Underground 1 & 2 were actually quite simple IMO. Yes, they also represented some icky stuff about the car scene of back then but it wasn't THAT bad. You didn't want to fit your car with ugly speakers? Fine, fill it with NAWS bottles and it'll net you the same star rating. Want to clear the game without modding your car to oboxious levels? Get a carbon-fibre widebody kit and be done with it while having a gorgeous car. And in the end of the cheesy and infantile storyline you were sort of a good guy. Same with Carbon when you foil hype-boy Darius and same with Pro Street with had the "kings" system: none of them was a bad guy, Karol Monroe was a sexy drag-racing chick...coming to think of it, they had no background at all.

But how the 🤬 you expect me to look up to Magnus Walker? Guy's all show and no go. I once saw a TEDx presentation given by him and I couldn't help but cringe at the amount of commonplaces and how basic his speech was. And come on, portraying an actual, real-life, criminal as an "Idol"? Just because he embodies the pathetic "OMG HATERZ HATE ME HURR DURR" way of life?

Everything wrong with the car scene indeed :banghead:

Should tweet them. They have been answering loads of questions today.

Yes, you are the only one bothered.

You are focusing too much on the SpeedHunters involvement than the overall game.

You are talking of being a criminal when the point of the game is illegal street racing. It is just right to have these icons in as they are famous members of the underground scene.

Let's take a look at what Underground means. The words "hidden", "attacking the established society" and "nonconformists" appear and that is the theme this game is going for, so why is it frowned upon for the icons to be included in the game? They best represent this side of car culture and make the career mode feel authentic. Would you rather have EA hire some actors who know nothing about motoring? If you don't like it then Need For Speed is not the game for you.

The problem is that they're real people. Quite a bit different than a work of fiction in something like Underground or Most Wanted (which I'm surprised wasn't mentioned).

Having icons who play a part in car culture (even the infamous aspects) makes the game feel more authentic from my perspective.

That has basically summed up my reaction. Because a person like Magnus Walker who has been successful and wears odd clothing you don't like it but you can't doubt his knowledge and passion for cars. I rather have him than some actor reading off a script clearly not knowing what he is talking about.

I agree, gives it a little more authenticity and all that, was just explaining the issue.

Personally I would rather have actors because I can't think of a single person I'd like to see. The current line up is just pitiful. But maybe I'm attributing that mainly to Ken Block. Even then the others are still looked up to by many and that's unfortunate.

I can doubt his knowledge for cars, maybe not his passion, but certainly his knowledge. And most importantly, I can question his importance to the car culture. He's known for...uh...drilling holes to the doorhandles of classic Porsches. What has he to do with speed at all? He isn't even a racing driver! "Oh, yeah, I like to get to my limits and I'm very competitive"...anyone can say that!

Speed? Why not Keiichi Tsuchiya? He's a big name in car culture and actually a fast driver instead of a rich show-off. Or any of the Hot Version guys. Or get him to represent Style, he'd run rings around Block.

What about Bisi Ezerioha? That's a guy I can look up to, a self-made man that gets ridiculous power figures out of all his Bisimoto creations. Or Smokey Nagata, an illegal racer but not a downright criminal like this mobster guy and a guy who actually knows something about cars and a thing or two about raw speed. Those are idols.

These love-to-hate-me brosos do nothing for me. Maybe Nakai, but that's about it.

WOW! Someone finally comes out and says it! I'd reckon they chose who they chose to appeal to masses who don't know more about cars than Bugattis and Skylines, which is probably their biggest audience. So I see what they're doing, but it's sadly not for me.

Fair enough Keiichi who has raced in almost every tier of racing and Smokey Nagata famous for trying to hit 200mph on the Wangan or even the M6. But I can't see them fit into the game.

You can't see a racing driver who began his career drifting in the streets and an actual underground racer famous for storming Japan's motorways in Top Secret (pun intended) fit into a street racing game about underground car culture? I mean, come on, Smokey was part of the Midnight Club...that group is good enough for a videogame of it's own.

Smokey did his fair share of illegal stuff but as far as I'm aware of he is no mobster. The Midgnight Club was sworn to disband if their actions resulted in any kind of casualty and they did disband after a gruesome accident in which they were involved but was actually caused by a drunken motorcyclist. How does a Japanese mobster with a penchant for awful modifications fit better than that?
