The game's style would have to completely change to accomdate that sort of image. Not a bad idea, but it wouldn't work with the current format it's in.

Also Smokey wasn't in Mid Night, common misconception.

You can't see a racing driver who began his career drifting in the streets and an actual underground racer famous for storming Japan's motorways in Top Secret (pun intended) fit into a street racing game about underground car culture? I mean, come on, Smokey was part of the Midnight Club...that group is good enough for a videogame of it's own.

Smokey did his fair share of illegal stuff but as far as I'm aware of he is no mobster. The Midgnight Club was sworn to disband if their actions resulted in any kind of casualty and they did disband after a gruesome accident in which they were involved but was actually caused by a drunken motorcyclist. How does a Japanese mobster with a penchant for awful modifications fit better than that?
Keiichi never began his career drifting. He invented the style of drifting when he was professionally racing as he found it quite boring so he decided to make it more fun by purposely creating oversteer. Keiichi actually influence people to keep any race activity on the track and not on the streets.

Smokey was never part of the Midnight Club.

Goes to show how much you actually know these Idols.

Errr..wasn't Keiichi inspired by Kunimitsu Takahashi who he claims was among the precursors of drifting? I actually don't think a single person "invented" drifting...and if somebody did then it must've been decades ago, because if you remember correctly most pre-war Grand Prix drivers came out of every corner drifting all fours.

And although I grant you that I'm not writting their official biography and I'm not an expert on their lifes, it still doesn't disprove my point about them being far more important personalities for the car culture than the guys SpeedHunters chose. It kind of even proves my point: instead of teaching a new generation about yesteryear's greats, like the ones I've mentioned or guys like Go-Go Daijiro, they're shoving down our throats an ego trip mixed with a publicity stunt for people who don't deserve such status.

Some more off-screen gameplay. I suggest muting the video. Ridiculously annoying and unnecessary commentary but some nice things are shown.

"looks like rust is on the car" - lol wat? Good video though, confirms that the s13 front end swap is a bodykit and not just a front bumper choice.

Am I the one bothered by the shameless promotion of SpeedHunters' idols?

Magnus Walker? Of course, I want a clothes designer who got rich and now "transforms" Porsches to tell me what to do, dressed in his obnoxious "LOOK-AT-ME, I'M A TRY-HARD" stye. Ken Block? A man famous for some admittedly awesome viral videos and ZILCH results in WRC. The mobster in Luke Huxham's "Underground Hero"? That's even kind of offensive. Why the heck should I be interested in a freaking criminal and why should I look up to him? Because the bros of contemporary "car culture" tell me he's awesome? Might as well go the extra mile and throw Pablo Escobar into the mix, he raced some awesome Porsches and Renaults and had all the "Underground Hero" and "Love to hate me" swag that Huxham attributes to that criminal.

I had high hopes for the involvement of SpeedHunters in the game design but I didn't expect them to 🤬 it up so badly. Yeah, great customization and all, but if that's what they wanna promote as "car culture" then by all means count me out of such culture, I wan't nothing to do with rich posers and criminals.

Yeah the whole idols thing is pretty lame, especially when nobody knows most of them. I was thinking that Ken block should be the speed guy since he races in real life doing RallyCross and normal rallying, and someone like Mad Mike Whiddett should be style. I would much rather have his insane Mazda rx-7 or MX5 over the "Hoonicorn". I hope they don't try to shove the storyline in our faces too much I think I skipped every single cut scene in Rivals.

That's not my issue, that's fine.

My issue is with it messing with the actual sound engine of the game somehow or at least that is how it is being stated, that the "quality" gets better which just erks me into what this means.
Last time I checked, some guy from Youtube isn't word of god. Better off waiting until we get more info on this.
Sweaty cars, ya know, the cars always look like they are sweating in screenshots so I guess dynamic weather will merge lots of sweat or less sweat or hopefully NO sweat at all on the cars.

Don't forget the Mustang Boss 302 :D

Can't see anything to suggest it's a Boss 302.

Couldn't we do that in Shift?

Joke?? I wasn't making a joke, erm, wtf dude?

I was saying I really dislike the "sweating" look of the cars always having rain drops on them or they look as if they are under a lot of perspiration...last time I checked, that's an accurate observation because even when it's dry it looks like the cars are spewing sweat.

@the video with the 180sx

Well...those driving physics look rigid. Why does when he hit the walls the car just instantly stops rather than actually have some momentum in the collision? Also, this is what the "grip" physics look like i take it, kinda looks like scale electric cars on a track with how rapid the movement is. Hmmm.

No question that the art style and graphics is really nice...however I want to hear engine audio quality as to me that's more important.

The fact that you were constantly calling it sweat made it look like you were trying to make a joke or be sarcastic. It's a solid point, but still.

I don't think Ken Block should be the 'Speed' icon as he isn't successful in either rallycross or Rally but it is probably more suitable than Magnus Walker.

I would expect Mad Mike to creep into the game as he is part of Speedhunters.

Actually if you follow what Ken Block does you would know he is very successful in RallyCross and Rallying, everyone rips on him because he didn't do well in the WRC but guess what? Neither did Kimi Raikkonen. WRC is extremely competitive and they are truly the best drivers in the world.

Ken block won loads of races in the GRC Rallycross series last year and would have won the title if it wasn't for some bad luck towards the end of the series. He is also very successful in the Rallying he does in the states.

Magnus Walker is just a weird fit, it sounds like he should be the outlaw as he is known for being caught speeding in his Porches. I literally have never heard of him before and he looks like a homeless guy or someone from a Heavy Metal band.

https://www.reddit.com/r/needforspe...t_ben_kind_of_answered_the_fps_lock_question/ - Anyone looking to get this game on PC one of the Devs commented here saying they still don't have an answer to the 30fps lock on PC question which does not sound good.

Eh, it's not like they had a choice but who else would they realistically choose to use/partner with/feature in a Need for Speed game? You could only really have the OIOIOISTANCENAYSHUUUNNNNNNNNNbottomoutoverapoptart bros or the plain stupid Carthrottle kiddies trying to be auto journos by posting memes.
this is Off topic but I must ask.... How do people feel about car throttle? I follow them on Instagram and they don't seem that bad I guess....

I'm eh about them.

On topic.

I feel that the reason as to why they decided to use Speedhunters Idols is namely because much of the younger generation of car enthusiasts are more familiar to them than they are to older driving idols, such as the "Drift King" himself.

Did you know that EA owns SpeedHunters? I had no idea until a few days ago.

I imagine it would be a bit harder for them to get some of those other guys as well. It's not as easy as people think it is.

They do???

Whilst it’s never been a secret, many of you are probably not aware that just over seven years ago, Speedhunters.com was launched by Electronic Arts (EA) as a way to support and enhance the Need for Speed franchise. Of course, Rod Chong and the other original team members at EA probably had no idea just how much of a monster this site would become in the ensuing years, but it soon became its own entity and the link between Need for Speed and Speedhunters became less and less obvious.

Has anyone played both MW2012 and Rivals? If so, how do they compare? I've seen people compare NFS2015 physics to Rivals and see it negatively. My only reference of 'modern NFS' is MW2012 and for me it was okay.

I didn't like Rivals to be honest.

Based on what i read on Reddit , the floodgates will open ending this month beginning of next month.Gamescom was about the icons and more of the narrative, next week they say they gonna show game play and next month they gonna focus more on the customization, revealing more cars and all of this comes from Ghost Ben.

Edit: I think I found the post but he didn't say when they will be talking about these things.

They can't be serious about that. If they do, well they can kiss my wallet goodbye.
Online has become a standard for todays games so why should I be bothered with that news...you are going have to do better than that if you want me to cancel my preorder.
What made you change your mind? Just curious.

Quite surprised a lot of people didn't know speedhunters was EA made/owned when NFS:Shift came out as it was stated back then too.

I wouldn't know what the compare the physics too at the moment, I still don't like the way it looks like cars only really pull in one direction, can almost INSTANTLY stop and do 180s and seem to accerlate extra fast, but perhaps I am too warped from more sim like games and NFS15 really is going 100% arcade...hmm. Which would be ok if it was more NFS:MW 2005 style physics which were great.

SO the latest, according to Destructoid anyway is that the game is still 100% "online only" which still sucks ass:

http://www.destructoid.com/why-the-need-for-speed-reboot-is-always-online-297483.phtml

So much for rumours that you can play offline...

This is an appalling decision IMO.

Not only does it exclude people with bad or no internet connections from playing but "likes getting rewards"? This isn't a Facebook game, I shouldn't have to start sharing photos to unlock content in a game that I've paid full price for. They DO NOT need to make the game always online for a damn photo sharing app.

Good luck on day 1 guys, I hope your family don't mind you being in work 24/7 to fix the servers!

EDIT: Also worth mentioning that I work in the games industry and so far the consensus about this has been "Well that's a stupid decision"

Nothing in that article states why it NEEDS to be always online, because basically there is no reason. All of these stupid social gimmicks developers put in games these days are so unnecessary and add very little to the experience. More often than not they are just annoying and detract from the actual core gameplay.
