Ah well, if the drive ratio is an issure here. The one I put in my example actually is too long for racing, you'll reach way over 220mph with it. Nobody needs that in the "Blackpool Racers". But as RXGem said correctly, a longer final ratio will spread the engine power you have over a larger amount of speed, if you will, so the actual power at a certain speed is lower than with a correct, short final ratio.
I did this cause the Speed 12 has so much grunt, I had to put it somewhere. So, I made the gearbox too long, which makes the car more driveable than with correct gears.

I find the TVR actually easier to drive on you’re worst possible road tires... take off is a b***h, but cornering is a breeze once you get that controlled drift going.... sorta like the yellowbird... horrible to drive on racing tyres... but more tameable with roadies...

It's a difficult car to drive, but a really rewarding experience once you get the hang of it. bloody quick and very light... the entire TVR range is fantastic. The speed 12 is very front heavy, so if you’re not comfortable with its original setting then a little tuning should pull it into place. Just remember to be light on the accelerator as the wheel spin comes in the barrel loads. Happy driving. :)

I used a dead standard TVR Giffith 500 that I got used and won the blackpool events with it :).

I like to test all the cars I get standard and with no driving aids, the Speed 12 was quite a challanging car to drive like that but I with excellent throttle control I found it handles quite well.

Oh, I see, in that case I will make the lower gear have long and probably bellow the optimum power curve, and the higher gear can be made short if needed, using 5.500 final drive. Maybe the gear will look like this

The TVR Cerbera Speed 12 is perhaps the worst handling car in the entire game. It's cool for setting speed records, but is pretty useless on a track. And you don't have to use it in that race. Try something like a Tuscan. Give it some wings, set the downforce at 30 (front) and 25 (rear) and shift the weight balance a bit more to the rear (the Tuscan is pretty front-heavy). You should have no problem winning this race.

I agree with you that the Speed 12 is pretty much useless in the game... But the Tuscan is a beauty to drive and I don't reckon it needs a wing for downforce. It might have the engine in front of the cabin, but look for photos of the engine bay and you'll see the 6 cylinder engine is set so far back behind the front axle is has the weight distribution of a mid engined car. This is only my own opinion by the way...
