What car are people using for 650pp?

I'm trying to use RH tires like the other cars and beat that BMW, but can't seem to do it... even when I'm using that car also!

I'm beginning to wonder if it's possible.

If you've been able to beat the BMW using a car with RH tires, let me know what it was (and please share your tune)

Thanks!
I have used these cars and won against the BMW:
Nissan GT-R 35 TC
Chevrolet Corvette C5-R (C5) '00
Nissan Xanavi Nismo GT-R '08
All cars were tuned to 650pp with RH tires. I always use the default suspension, aero, and drivetrain settings for all the seasonal events.
The trick is knowing how to drive the track without making any mistakes. The AI BMW is slow through the corners on this track.

OK haven't tried those yet. But this could just be a skills problem :)

BTW... what was your average lap time?

I used a Zonda R and took second on my first try with some sloppy driving. I switched to my McLaren F1 and took 1st on lap two and won by +20 seconds. Tune was maxed out everything with added ballast for balance, power restricted to meet the 650pp requirement. I really hate that course after doing the X1 challenge so I won't be repeating it, ever!

If you won by +20 seconds I don't think the BMW McLaren F1 was in that race.

With enough practice it's possible. One car that comes to mind is the Ford GT Spec II Test Car (The black one in the dealership under Gran Turismo's shop).

Quite fast but extremely quirky out of corners. It is faster than the car I used to beat the F1.

A little more stable but slower, the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (C6) RM '06 is possible. I say this because while slightly more sluggish than it, I've managed with the Camaro SS RM '10 with RH tires. Please note that this took lots of practice, but for Suzuka, I wouldn't mind at all!

Tuning is at the beginning of the video.

He might have meant he was also driving the BMW McLaren F1 :)

I enjoyed these races, took a few attempts but managed to win the 400PP with a Fiat Coupe (SH tyres), I think it may have needed an oil change so might not usually be under 400 but there are several faster cars that are. Eventually reeled the Accord in on the second to last corner.

For the 500PP I tried the Plymouth Superbird which was a blast but only managed 3rd, may manage better with practice though. Then tried the M3 which was too easy, so willl go back to that. SH tyres again, no tuning.

For Suzuka I was very lucky with the initial field, no sign of the Troll F1 or even the Zonda or various GTs. I used the R35 TC (RH tyres, no tuning) which is supernaturally good, but then again it's not really...real :)

Blew past the leader at the start of the 4th lap, wasn't even pushing too hard, was running laps around 1:58-1:59. Anyone who just wants to gold this and worry about a challenge later, choose this car and spam the race til you get a relatively easy field.

Going to go back to all of these now, sticking with the R35 and have two GTs in the pack now, then will try to get the F1. Then I might even try a real car too :)

There is a very big difference between what is required to win based on the competitive field. For example the mclaren runs the 5 laps in 9:43.xxx

On the other hand several of the fields are lead by cars running 10:07.xxx

The best I've been able to do is a 9:57.xxx with a GT-R 35TC. That's on RH tires with no aids. I will keep trying because it is a good challenge although I'm not sure I will ever catch the McLaren.

Thanks for all the great responses guys! InterSpectra, great run! Thanks for posting the video. You're running 1:56-1:57 laps and I'm running 1:58-1:59 laps and that 10 seconds over 5 laps is the difference between beating the F1 and not for sure. I think I'm going to try and try out the Camaro to see if the problem is with car or driver, even though I suspect it's the latter :)

Anyway, gives me a goal to shoot for. Hopefully I'm up to the challenge.

Thanks again!

I'm sure you can make it! You can also try the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (C6) RM, it's a little bit faster, at least from my feel of it running at the Laguna Seca 650PP race. The Z06 doesn't need a supercharger to hit 682 HP (after breaking in with 200 miles), which gives it a better power curve for high rpms. With the Camaro you can shift earlier before redline because the supercharger performs well around 5800-6600 rpm.

Another option is to forgo the Stage 3 Engine Upgrade on the Camaro. That'll give you ~686 HP but you're able to get 35/55 downforce, which may give you an edge around corners.

If you are confident with midship handling, the Ford GT Spec II Test Car is an amazing car to use. At ~630 HP it accelerated as fast as the Camaro/Corvette, if not faster. Definitely faster around corners, though I find it difficult myself with the DS3 controller and I fishtail out of exits if I throttle too much.

Good luck!

I gave up using the obvious 650 bunch, was getting to 2nd no worries but 1st seemed out of reach, until I tried the GT-R Concept LM Race Car. The whole pack changed with a Corvette C5-R(C5) up front(very lucky). Took 1st place at the s-bend before the start/finish on the 2nd lap & never looked back. My first race in that Nissan, but I can't imagine it'll be my last.

Fed up with the 400/500/650 pp things on the seasonals. It seems that either GT5 has no more to offer, or that PD's imagination has gone dry!

I have been using the cars from the "car of the week" threads over on the Q&A section to add some variety:
400pp event, 1968 Isuzu 117 Coupe
500pp event, 2001 Audi RS 4
650pp event, 1969 Camaro Z 28
It is more challenging and fun than using the "usual suspects" for these events 👍

Seriously? What are your tunings and what lap times are you running? Seems sub-1:58s are required to challenge the F1, and not far off that to catch a Ford GT if one of those starts up front.

Beautiful and very fast driving. I am 2 seconds a lap slower but working to cut the gap. People who think these Seasonals aren't challenging don't pick the hardest opponents and run the same tires.

Exactly RReed43! This is what makes it interesting for me. If the F1 is not in the race this seasonal is a cakewalk, but the against the F1 and running RH makes it a good challenge.

Looks like you and are in about the same boat timewise. InterSpectra had some great insights and suggestions which I'm looking forward to experimenting with later.

Sorry, listed the wrong event, I ran the 500pp event a second time with the stock Z28 at 453pp. Thats what I get for posting while not checking my notes.

Thanks RReed43 and luv2drive! I don't play in online lobbies very much, so this is one of the few things I do in GT5 now. I need to try GT Academy so I can unlock those cars (and Twin Motegi track?) in the future.

When the 650PP green hell seasonal came up I spent many hours just trying to get good enough to beat the F1!

Question about the Fort GT Spec II. You said ~630 PP. Did you mean PP? When I buy the car it comes with 601 HP / 636 PP. The only HP-increasing mods it seems that can be made are Engine Tuning 3 or Supercharger, both of which take the PP to 660. Curious about your setup.

I'm thinking about adding Engine Tuning 3 and downtuning to 650PP but wondering about the discrepancy

I'm getting better. I did the 5 laps of Suzuka at 9:52.635 beating the Zonda LM Race car which did a 9:53.385. I think the Zonda is the 2nd fast competitor so that leaves just the McLaren. My 1st lap was 2:00.xxx because my overtaking wan't the best but the last four laps were all 1>57.xxx. I need to find another second because it takes 1:56.xxx laps to catch the McLaren. I'm using the GT-R 35TC because my testing says its the fastest and I need all the capability I can muster.

Sorry! I may have meant HP, after breaking in the car + oil change. I haven't used that car in a while actually :guilty:

OK, so I've tried nearly all the cars we've been discussing here, and I find that I can go fastest with the BMW McLaren F1 GTR Race Car '97 (same F1 we're chasing).

I was able to shave 2 seconds per lap off my time by applying Praiano's Tune to the car (see link below). I made sure it was only 650pp by not adding the Turbo but I think the Suspension and transmission settings are what make the difference. Great tune, really improves the handling from the base!

I just ran a time of 9:48.xxx, getting lap times of 1:55-1:56. I ended up 3 seconds behind, so all I need to do is fix the first lap. I was much slower due to having to pass all the traffic so I need to figure out how to do that without losing so much time and I think I'll have it.

Great job! 1:55-1:56s are good laps, I agree that opening lap with all the traffic is quite annoying. I found that going back to XMB and restarting the game again seems to bring back the "original" opponent listing, the one seen in my video, as long as you don't go into another event.

Since that's the same opponent listing they've been using for so long, I tend to use them as markers for progress. I basically have to practice passing at certain parts of the track, as if they were those lap battles in the licenses.

The real kicker? Sometimes they go even slower when you're coming behind them around corners, which doesn't make sense half the time. It's fine if you're already side by side but it's different when you're "drafting" for an overtake on exit!

Winning in the 1st try
450PP (lame) Chevrolet Corvette Convertible (C1) ’54 (tuned)
