I've always thought BMWs always did look like 'just some car' with exception to the old 6 series which is pretty unique. Still maybe that because I'm from the UK where 3 series BMWs are about as popular as Ford Mondeos and Vauxhall Vectras these days. I'd prefer a Merc over a BMW any day, aslong as it had a good manual gearbox that is...

The new Bangled BMWs remind me of Korean cars etc... I.e. numb looking ugly plastic-thats-melted looking blobs...

I can see where you're coming from. Around here the new BMW's are a dime a dozen, but finding a nice E36 or E30 3 series is extremely rare.

I can't stand the new 3 series not one bit...

And the 7 series DID need a change because it looked just like a...BIG 3 series..

Maybe BMW's trademark was stretching a little too far into their model line (every car looked the same just bigger)...but the new 7 series is just ugly....
The 6 is great...he got 1 thing right out of 5.

I think an old "box" is much more appealing than these new generation deawoo's

The 5 series is ok. The rear lights look like the one from the current Subaru Impreza 👍

The best looking 3 series were the E46 in my opinion, especially the M3.

The new M3 will probably get an V8...

Why does everyone "kill" the straight six engines in the high performance sector??

A V6 is cheaper and easier to produce, especially since its crankshaft is only half as long as that of an I6. And the M3 will indeed have the old M5's V8.

Check-up, the 3-Series does outsell the Ford Mondeo and the Vauxhall Vectra, now.

And the manuals on Mercedes quoted to be the worst ever, because Mercedes can't quite make them properly, they are too used to making auto's.

The c-class is crap anyway. It dopesnt look special or does anything especially good but yet it costs a whole heap more then a audi A4. People are constantly underestimating audis. Audis are absolutely brillant and the a4 kicks the c-class to the curb in looks styling and driveability. Oh and you have a whole heap of money left to.

I know that V6 are cheaper,most of the time smaller and so on...
But who cares when these cars cost more than 50000 Euro (M3)

And I don´t think that the new M3 will get the "old M5 V8".
It has to deal with the new RS4 that will have a high-rpm V8, so I think that they have to put in high-rpm V8, too.

I think he means a wide torgue range revving engine. The RS4 engines gets max torgue from 2500-7200 rpm i think it was.

they would devolp a new engine for the new M3 , the current M3 engine has won best ebgine in its catogry fro 5 years , so the new engine should be at teh same level , and the new V8 will use the same technology from teh M5/M6 V10 thats for sure so its got be a new engine.

there is an M6 CSL on the way just thought to let yo guys know , its propably giong to have 550BHP and it will be lighter than the M6 its going to kick ass.

An M3 was always about reaching high RPM´s.

And the new Audi RS4 get a V8 that revs to 8.250 rpm.
(420 hp, 430 Nm torque, 4.2l V8 )

The RS4 is a competitor of the M3 and that´s why I think the new M3 will
get a high revving V8, too.

And to Woolie wool:

Bigger Engine -> higher weight -> bad ass handling

AND Sound is like Design. Some like it, some not!

That´s something you have to realise.

Could just be the old VANOS system, though, but a 3.0L six putting out 300+ hp is going to either have torque issues because you have to wind it so high to make the power, or it's going to have breathing issues because of the huge stroke crank stuck in the bottom end.

We Yanks CAN build small engines that produce large amounts of power. Hell, 2.3L Ford turbo four anyone? However, have you ever looked at the tooling cost and service costs for those things? Americans, by and large, don't like to pay for added technology that isn't really necessary and certainly don't like to pay to have it fixed.

Hence why a great deal of the Japanese sports cars of the early to mid 90's failed. At the outset, it was actually about a 40/30/30 split between the Corvette, the Europeans, and the Japanese. However, as FD's spit apex seals, 3000GT VR4's/Stealth R/T Turbos ate transaxles and spit electrics, 300ZX TT's overheated, and Supras and NSX's stayed high in price, the headache proved greater than the car.

Plus the Corvette was still eating them in performance using an engine it shared with the damned IMPALA COP CAR.

When the Japanese had only about 15 of the market share they cut bait, and it was all because they indulged in unnecessary technology. It drove up the cost, drove up the service bill, and drove away customers who could get the same thrill from the old perimeter frame, leaf sprung IRS, fiberglass body, truck engined Corvette.

Very interesting take. I've always thought Japanese should've invested more in smaller sports cars(240SX, Celica, etc.), instead of those big & heavy flagship sports cars(RX, 300ZX, etc.). But instead of turbo charged 240SX/Silvia or Celica, they are investing heavily into the monsters like Skyline and Toyota super cars(Lexus and possible Supra replacement) for the U.S. I could care less.......... alright, maybe a little bit.

Your lotus and miatas have alot more technology than your corvette. Infact they have quite alot of techno.

So kiss is out the window unless your a mass producing soulless american company looking to make mega big bucks.

Have you guys noticed the difference between american car adverts and european cars. In america they always have some kind of horse running along with it of lightning bolts or something.

I apreciate my M3 and RS4s and no matter how fast a Z06 is ever gonna be I would never trade one of those vechiles in for a vette because:

I prefer the looks of the m3 and rs4. They are more comfortable. They are allot quieter. They are refined and luxourious and because every time I drive my car im not gonna be counting how long its taken me to get to 60 from the lights.

Because this site is mainly little kids they just car about 0-60 times and quarter mile times and basically disregard the rest of the vechile. When they get older they will realise thats its not all out performance but a good balance.

Because if you wanted outright performance anyway you could just get say one of those radicals which will blow away any Z06 and is cheaper.

What technology do they have under the bonnet? - i think you'll find that they're pretty basic in that respect too (and all the better for it) The Vette, at least the latest version, are quite advanced. Their suspension layout, although pre-historic in style, uses some trick materials and is generally considered pretty hi-tec.

- I never thought i'd be defending a Vette over a Lotus!!!
