It would have been good to see them at least make some effort to implement nighttime and a variety of weather conditions for once. I suppose the fact that they didn't do so means that they had more time to focus on other aspects, but it's a slight letdown in any case.

And while I don't plan on getting FM5 anytime soon after it's released, I am interested in hearing about what's going to replace the current auction house and storefront system.

Regarding storefront: It's just an open system now. So, anyone can download any paint scheme without paying, and that painter will get cash/rewards every time someone uses their work.

Just out of curiosity, why are they getting rid of auction house and storefront? I'm very interested in hearing about this "new" feature that will be replacing them. Also, I never thought I'd ever say this but, the lack of night time a bit of a let down. Either way it's neither a make or break feature for me.

Suppossedly, you put your tunes, designs etc... and instead of people buying them, you get paid when people use them... at least thats what i took from it

The hell with Night/Weather i'm getting this regardless. Although it was a dissapointment initially. BUT knowing T10 they will make up for it with the rest of the game.

You know that, i know that..

If we don't get Night/Weather, I atleast expect different day times. Nurb at sunset would be just about right for me. Imagine, the shadows from the trees dawning down onto the track. Oh god.

Yeah that's what everyone said when Forza 3 was a bit crap, and then when Forza 4 added nothing new everyone was like "the new console will let them do it" and then we have a new console and we're still waiting for stuff that's been on platforms from years ago.

But they simulated paint and added drivataar!!!!! WOO! YEAH!

FM3 was actually a major leap from FM2. We have seen night racing on other consoles before but we have yet seen night racing done properly and when I mean properly, I mean.

Night Racing with:

60FPS
500k+ Polygon cars
Proper lighting
Amazing physics

Also, the simulated paint is actually a pretty good feat. The Drivatars may change the terrible AI we have now.

From 8 to 16 cars on track = not adding anything new? Whilst its a disappointment, I feel the launch schedule is the main reason.

D'oh. Scratch what I said about the F1 cars... this is disappointing, considering the reasoning we were given about FM4's lack.

On the plus side, I do like that Dan cited physics as a reason. It does sound like the physics engine has become even more complex, and let's be fair; while GT has weather effects (on a handful of tracks), they don't do a whole heck of a lot to the physics. It's always felt like a rather simple relationship. Perhaps T10 want to work on giving a more convincing, dynamic approach to weather effects? It's a bit of a straw-grab, but that's all I've got.

Time of day though, I see no real excuse for that. Especially considering how utterly gorgeous the lighting engine looks :(

Forza may have the name "Motorsport" but we see each time it does very little to bring authentic racing elements that are true to actual racing.

I decided to understand that after FM3 as it is not the direction they want to go and instead expect only a fun/pretty racer. It still could of had weather and day-night races though for visual effects so it is a shame as more and more games utilise such.

To be fair, time and weather change was probably not on the top of their to-do list when making their first game for the new generation. With the improved graphics it's also more important than ever before that it looks right, you can't just make a quick night effect that looks like crap and get away with it. Better to take your time and be ready when it's ready, wether that be for Forza 6 or Forza 7.

The way Dan talks about updating the game post launch seems like these features could be added later.(sessler interview)

It is never going to resemble proper sims on PC.
That don't mean it won't be fun or a good game but it will never be what some want it to be and that is a proper sim of "Motorsport".

Every release they add new features, like rewind, Kinect steering, make it more accessible for people to play and this year we hear more of Drivatar rather than ways to make the game harder or more sim based.

Turn-10 did a Twitch.tv interview just now, they confirmed a few new things;

-All cars are in vista mode
-open wheel race cars
-brand new painting options, with new materials.
-no auction house or storefront, new method coming not yet talked about.
-no night time racing
-no weather effects

There will be more details about the open wheel race cars soon.
WHOA that's a big red flag right there. There is NOOOOOO excuse for T10 not to include weather or night time racing. The only reason they said before was they couldn't do it on the 360 because of the limitations of the 360 system to maintain 60fps. That excuse is should no longer viable on the Xbox One. This cant be true. Well my excitement for the Xbox One and Forza 5 just dropped a LOT. I had no plans to buy Forza 5 if it had no weather or night racing. Sounds like T10 might be focusing way too much on graphics and starting to ruin some of the features for gameplay. :ouch:🤬🤬

All cars in Autovista also makes me VERY nervous. I believe there are well over 700+ cars in Forza 4. I will be shocked if they were able to get all 700+ cars into Autovista in F5 within only 2 years. This reminds me of the standard car problem in GT5 to GT6. I have a feeling the car quantity is going to be much lower in Forza 5. I sure hope I am wrong but this is not looking good IMO.

Oh not this again. ALL those features can be turned off. Its no different than hitting the pause button or restarting a race in other racing games. You don't have to use those features if you don't want to. Cant believe people are still complaining about features you dont need to use. In fact you are given bonuses for not using the assists.

He wasn't complaining about the features, he was complaining that they spend time on making driving aids while, in his opinion, they should focus on improving the simulation aspects of the game.

Which is an errant opinion because the physics are being improved, and I still don't understand where this juxtaposition of the cars having to be difficult to drive in order to be realistic comes from.

It comes from GT.

Did they mention how many cars will be on Track?

Mr Latte has a perfectly valid point, which is that Forza Motorsport isn't much of a "motorsport" game. It's more like a private track day simulator. If it were a true motorsport simulator, the format and process of racing would have more depth, and other features would be given precedence (eg. fuel/tires and pitting, flags, qualifying, etc.).

What he said has nothing to do with turning aids off, and it has nothing to do with the physics, or how "difficult" they are. He's just pointing out that the lack of night or weather reflect upon Turn 10's priorities in delivering a driving experience instead of a motorsports experience.

Except GT isn't exactly hard to drive in, other than for those used to the throttle-only approach in arcade games.

Besides, it's not like the folks in charge of the physics engine and it's calculations are the ones creating the aids.

Wolfe does (as usual ;) ) make a good point. Not that I have a problem with FM's (or GT's, for that matter) focus, as it appeals to me personally, but both need to make pretty large strides if they want to truly recreate motorsports.

You mean aside from the bit where he says "we hear more of Drivatar rather than ways to make the game harder or more sim based"?

They are spending all the time making the C4 Corvette more accurate instead.

Now it looks like this:

@SlipZtrEm:  I'm more of a "driver" than a "racer" myself, which is why Forza/GT appeal to me in the first place and why I play Forza Horizon instead of FM4.

I guess we'll have to wait for his response, but things like night driving, weather, and pit strategy add difficulty, while "sim based" could mean, "with features/options found in PC motorsports sims."

I'm just telling you what I read out of what he wrote.

Car damage is carried over from FM4, nothing new because "Its not a crash simulator" .

Open wheel racing will not feature open wheel crashes. No weather becasue it just "wasn't in the books" "pushing the hardware at launch". Watching the live stream interview it seems the game is just FM4 with new eye candy and new features.

Can't you say the same for GT6?

The launch thing is understandable but at the same time Microsoft needs to realize that these guys need time to create something of quality; this 2-year release schedule isn't going to hark it for much longer I feel.

Driving aids are called features. So he was complaining about them creating features.

I want to just choke T10 for those comments. If they are pushing the limits at launch then the X1 is either really weak, or they are just making excuses again to avoid weather and night racing. No way they are already pushing the hardware at launch unless the X1 is really not that much of an upgrade from the 360. I am also predicting all the cars from F4 are not in F5. Just beyond frustrating.

Also no open wheel crashes?? Seriously? What is this GT5 / GT6?

I will just consider getting the X1 when Halo 5 comes out in 2014. By then F5 and the X1 will be cheaper anyway. Very disappointed in the decisions they are making with F5.

.

You can but it's not on the next generation. I expected a lot more than a better looking game in the next generation.

Oh, I was just about as disappointed as anyone else, but to then weigh a $500 purchase on the sole inclusion of two features, let alone one just seems foolish to me. However I will say things were kind of compensated for with open-wheel racing.
