Audi Introduces Two New 'Vision Gran Turismo', the First Vision Gran Turismo to Drive a Real World Race Track
09/04/2018

On 9th April, Audi hosted an event at the Audi Driving Experience Center located just outside Ingolstadt, revealing their 'Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo'. At the same time, two versions of the car with different power-trains were made available in ‘Gran Turismo Sport’ with a free update.

The 'Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo' is a model that brings to life the interpretation of a perfect ‘Gran Turismo’ by Audi. Its appearance is a sharp sports car wrapped in Audi’s latest design principles, but the car also pays homage to the famed Audi 90 IMSA GTO that raced the 1989 North American IMSA series.

Answering to the call for a variety of power-trains in recent years, there will be 2 versions of this car in 'Gran Turismo Sport': the car with the blacked-out front grille is the 'Audi Vision Gran Turismo', a hybrid version combining a 3.4L V6 turbo engine to power the rear wheels and a motor/generator unit in front. The total system power is a whopping 950 kW (1292 ps).

The other version is the 'Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo', a pure EV model. This version can be recognised by its white front grille. With a single 200 kW motor in front and two for the rear, the total system output is 600 kW (815 ps).

Another ground breaking feature of this car is that it is the first Vision Gran Turismo able to really drive on a real world race track: the prototype revealed at the event will perform demo runs at the Formula E Rome GP being held on 13-14 April, as well as at other famous events. Audi will show off its sleek exterior and high performance at these events.

Kazunori Yamauchi first visited Audi with the concept of Vision Gran Turismo back in February 2013. Audi agreed wholeheartedly to participate in the project and carefully develop a full-fledged race car. The 'Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo' is a major milestone and accomplishment in the history of Vision Gran Turismo.

This thing looks absolutely stunning. I love it! Plus the fact that they managed to make a functioning model in real life is absolutely astounding.

I'll be surprised if I can roll either of the two in my dailies tomorrow...

Electric and hybrid are the current short term future for performance cars until a viable alternative fuel infrastructure like hydrogen can be made.
Yeah, which I’m sad about. But it is what it is. I can definitely see why they put electrics in the game. And why shouldn’t they? Some people like them, so stick em in there. I play online with a guy who likes the whole electric car movement. Of course we mocked him for it, but it’s all for fun. I like the variety, and I am still looking forward to giving this thing a run

Seriously all that hype for a electric piece of crap :banghead:
Its the way the motor industry is going now though. I agree that i'm not a fan of electric cars, but it's something we are all going to have to deal with! This is the reason porsche and audi pulled the plug on their LMP1 Hybrids, so they could focus on Formula E and improve their electric cars for the future.

All of those references to FE build up my hopes that some day we will see Formula E cars in Gran Turismo. Until then a new hyper-mega super race car is cool (especially since it's a real car which will drive on real roads).
