Now this has been released, I was wondering what everyone's opinion is?

Got my copy yesterday and played it last night. The game is pretty awesome I must say. The head turning is manual, using the right analog stick. So people who complained about that, you dont have to use it. There is a slight head turn (very minor, basically just looking at the corner) when you approach it. This is to tell you to brake. Well, that is how I knew when too. The blackouts are not over done and fit in quite well. When you completely blackout, at about 80mph, when you come to, you are usually facing some random direction not knowing how you got there. = Accurate.

There is lots more but will discuss more later.

Overall, very different to GT, so cannot compare. They are both very good game. My main love, is that it is different and refreshing.

Oh and stick the AI on hard and driving mode on elite and you are in for a challenge. This game is NOT easy. Driving on GT is a breeze compared.

I hate it, i flipped an elise, at 60 km/h after trying to correct myself, from the car sliding around for no apparent reason. The black and white, when hitting, no touching a wall, is annoying, playing it with a wheel is terrible, i hate it! Have no sense of speed in this game, i think im going 200km/h, iim only doing 120, the lack of cars, the hideous graphics compared to gt5. The only reason i got it, was for the GT1 cars and bathurst. Why am i upset, because i was expecting much much more, if my expectation wasn't so high, and if didn't compare it to gt5, this is a fantastic arcade game, but a simulation compared to gt5? Not a chance.

I agree, you cant compare this to GT. If you do, you will only be disappointed by the lower graphics and lack of cars. If you look at it as a Need for Speed. It is a very good game.

+1

Haven't yet tried myself but what i heard from my friend, they said that i doesn't feel right when driving with wheel.

But i will buy it just because its a racing game, and i like racing games whether they are arcade or simulation.

I am going to try this game for sure, knowing full well it is not a proper sim. I'll be playing it with a pad anyway.

Even if it is only for the epic selection of cars and tracks and the obviously exciting multisensorial driving experience it offers.

I am playing it on a pad. Default controls are brake and throttle on L2 and R2 respectively. Which is what I set my GT5 too. (Good choice EA.)

Shift down/up is default L1 and R1 though. You cant brake and shift down with that setup. (Bad choice EA.) Default Alternate setup puts shift down/up on X and [] . Which is also what I have GT5 set to. So thats ok.

The car choice is small, but there are some epic ones for me. All my favorites are in it. Mazda RX7, Toyota Supra, Honda NSX, Nissan Silvia/Skyline/GT. Plus wayyyy more modifications available for them.

The "multisensorial" (have no idea how to spell that, or if it is even a word) is very good, but very different to GT. Infact, dont even compare it to GT. Picture it as its own product. Its fun, which to me, is all I wanted.

The only thing PD can learn from Shift 2 is track selection. How can Shift 2 include Spa, Silverstone, Zolder, Road America, Bathurst, Brno and Brands Hatch yet PD misses all of these classic race tracks? (PD's Nurburgring does make up for it considerably though :sly:)

Unless there are some major changes at PD, don't expect the GT franchise to alter it's course based on other titles. The GT franchise has remained as true to it's core as any gaming franchise, consistently disregarding new features and functions presented by virtually every competing titles. To me, it's almost as if PD doesn't play or even look at what the competitors are doing at all. To me, this reverance to the past comes across as arrogance. Interestingly enough, PD's "stay the course" approach is catching up with them. Competing titles are now compared to GT ad nauseum and with good reason in my opinion. Shift 2 hits GT right where it is weakest- RACING. GT5 serves the faithful with outstanding graphics (premiums) and physics, but other titles FM3, Shift 2, F1 2010 have expanded the discussion, a discussion once dictated by PD. My GT5 everynight days have passed, just as my Shift 2 everynight days will as well, but possible not as soon . . . I am a RACE fan. Competition is good, the current crop of console driving/racing games is excellent. What will T10 bring to the fight with FM4? No need to compare, just need to own all of them- racing is more fun than arguing in a forum anyway. To each his own- respect.

after playing NFS: Shift 2 a bit over the past few days, the things i would like to see in gt5 are:

1. bonus xp for doing something right(such as passing cleanly, following the line, etc). we all know in gt5 is hard to get to level 40, but maybe even this being small could help.

2. custimization of cars, the livery editor is pretty cool in shift 2, even though its a bit simple its something.

3. the AI seem to be a bit more "aggressive" they tend to try to take you down with them. some say this might be arcadish, but others also say the gt5 AI just let you ram them all day.

4. the damage is just spectacular, the hood, trunk, wings, and wheels fall off, and class breaks, etc. its just simply awesome.

Got Shift2 waiting on my desk, looking forward to those tracks especially Brno

I know what I'm getting with Shift2, and I'm not expecting it to be at all like GT5 so I won't be disappointed

Fun fun fun, viceral, noisy and dirty! :D

ps. Eeek, whats with only the one smiley? Has GTP been hacked?

After watching videos of Shift2, that about sums it up. It's impressive the amount of realism they have added. The sound of rocks hitting the undercarraige, dirt/water hitting the windshield, etc. However the engine sounds appear to be on/off. When you take your foot off the gas, the engine silences and that's a bit unrealistic and GT5 has done a better job with some engine sounds.

I'd rather they not impliment anything honestly. If you really think about it - the more they support gt5 the longer it will take them to make gt6;) At some point their priorities will need to shift. A new seasonal here and there, maybe a little bit of DLC every now and then but please leave it at that.

History tells us that we shouldn't expect GT6 before the next time Halley's Comet comes around, so I'd rather they invest some time in fixing all the things that are lacking in GT5 before setting off on their next epic development quest.

Silly smiley time! 💡:dopey:👍

Yes. Anything more involved than some light DLC will only add to the time it takes them to make the next one though.

Seems like many on here are expecting the kind of service you'd get for a game with a subscription. They already got our money, they really have no obligation to do anything more to the game at this point.

Well, it would be smart for them to do, after selling us this broken game pretending it is a full Gran Turismo release. I'll make sure to carefully read the reviews the for the next edition to see if they continue the downhill trend before splashing out.

What about implemeting a car list of cars people actually desire??? I was shocked in admiration at NFS:S2s car list, full of stuff I'd actually want to drive instead of thousands of versions of the same Impreza/Skyline/NSX/Miata/GTO/Lancer and without rubbish Japanese crap commuter cars A.k.a "K-Cars". I'm not saying everything should be ridiculously fast and firebreathing race cars but cars like the Seat Leon and the Ford Focus

I have a a feeling that a Pagani Huayra is in the works.

Yup, but most likely it'll take PD 6 months or more to model. And that without taking in account Japan's current state (For which I wish the Japanese find a way out 👍).

They only thing they really need to consider is the sounds, NFS has always been pretty high in the sound department and I think PD could learn a thing or two from them.

I understand dirt hitting the windshield(and bugs), but...when your in 3rd person?? Why?

Put in full screen and imagine this madness for more than 10 minutes of gameplay:

[youtubehd]kT7HtfyPtUw[/youtubehd]

I can't. That view is more suited for spectacle than for hours of precise sim driving.

OMGOMGOMG!!!! SHIFT2 HAS BATHURST!!! Thats defiantely better than GT5 (the track, not actual game...)

Yeah but what cars are we talking in NFS:Shift2? So far I have only seen super cars and I for one hate these games where people just pick the car with the Highest HP and think their Gods gift to racing.

Thats the helmet cam, once you choose the normal in car view everything changes. No blur(except at about 140mph) and the shaking isnt as bad as it is there either. The game is actually very good one out of that camera.

Er...any normal cars in Shift 2? I mean sure you'll find Civics and other ricer crap but is this just another NFS game with only the best cars out of the class? Reminds me of playing ProStreet, fun game, but 240SX's don't beat Zonda F's. Ever.

There is a surprisingly large selection of old classics like the Focus Cosworth, E30 M3, 190E Evo, M1, Mk1 GTI, AE86, etc. Along with modern track toys like a Caterham and a Radical, and GT cars from the FIA GT1 and GT3 series.

That's in addition to the regular collection of M3s, RS4s, Lambos, Porsches, Paganis, etc.

I'm not sure what your opinion of "normal" is, but I think there is a fair selection of "normal" cars. GTI, Si, MX-5, S2000, Camaro, Focus, Scion, etc

Add in the option to race mod every single car and all in all it's a pretty amazing car list in my opinion.

This will never happen... Guess what... the majority of PD`s customers lives here in europe... But we are still waiting for a E30 or a E36 since GT1. Seeing the standard car list makes me think "They don`t give a **** about non japanese customers".

But I don`t like Shift2s car list eiter. Talking about "quality", yes the percentage of crap/cool cars in GT5 is much much much lower, but there are still more cars worth of driving.

No LMPs, no Group C cars, no classic prototypes, only few REAL race cars, not one open wheel racer... Oh, and no Ferraris... They will come via DLC...
And Im sure that they display the strenghts/weaknesses of cars in graphs again...
I hated shift1 for its stupid hollywood effects and its weak car list. Won`t buy Shift2 either.

Edit:
Im a prototype&F1 fanboy ;)

Ohhh yeah, I absolutely agree regarding the LMPs (Audi fanboy in da house!). I just think GT5 would be so much better if they included more actually entertaining cars. Yes, the interesting cars are more that those in any other game but a big chunk of them are standards and it's not even half of the so called "1000 cars" PD is advertising. Don't you ever feel something's missing everytime you visit the dealership?

Everyone, just calm down alright. Lets get one thing clear: no game, currently in existance, is perfect. Everyone is going to find faults in any game, simply because it hasnt got the one feature person X was waiting on, or because it has a feature that they didnt want. Oh well, if it has stuff in it you dont like, dont get that game; simple.

There are those (like myself) that just enjoy the art of driving, so they own various styles of car games (eg. I own GT5, F1 2010, NFS Hot Pursuit and Motorstorm: Pacific Rift, just to name my PS3 racing games).

Then there are those that follow one game in particular, and bash on any game that isnt their specified religion of racing game (could be worried that the other game is better, idk).

But no matter what anyones opinion is on any game, there is no need to start a pointless flame war, pointing out minor flaws in one game while sweeping the flaws in their game under the rug. Its just childish, so stop now before you make our community look like a bunch of five year olds.

After playing Shift 2 for a few hours I'm convinced SMS has read this site more than PD.

If they can refine their physics engine the Shift franchise will be a real alternative to GT and Forza.
