Congrats to the Red Wings on that win. Here are some other finals of tonight's seven games as of the time of this post:

* The Washington Capitals were devoured by the Florida Panthers 4-1 in Florida. Good kitties.

* Coincidentally, it was the same score in Tampa Bay as the other Florida NHL team won 4-1 at home against the Ottawa Senators. Good night for the Sunshine State, eh? Both teams winning at home by the same score over the other team.

* The Philadelphia Flyers went into St. Louis and doubled up the Blues 4-2.

* 5-1 was the score in Nashville as the Nashville Predators ran over the Chicago Blackhawks.

* The was offense aplenty in Winnipeg, and the home standing Jets took down the Columbus Blue Jackets 6-4.

Congratulations to all other winners from tonight, including the eventual winner of Buffalo at Calgary.

Detroit blew another 3rd period lead and wound up losing 3-2 in OT to the Devils yesterday.

Ten games played today and tonight. Let me touch up on some of them...

* The earliest game ended up a 3-1 victory at home for the Boston Bruins over the visiting Florida Panthers.

* The Washington Capitals won 2-1 on the road at the Tampa Bay Lightning.

* Get ready for a Canadian clash! The Montreal Canadiens defended home nicely against the Ottawa Senators to the tune of a 3-1 victory.

* 3-0 was the score in St. Louis as the St. Louis Blues hammered the Dallas Stars.

* Music City was singing the blues as the Nashville Predators fell 3-2 to the visiting Colorado Avalanche.

Congratulations to all other Saturday winners, including the eventual winners of these games:
* CAR Hurricanes at ARI Coyotes (currently 4-3, CAR; 6:02 left in 3rd Period)
* NYR Rangers at CGY Flames (currently 1-0; NYR, 7:50 left in 2nd Period)
* MIN Wild at SJ Sharks (currently 0-0 after 1st Period)

NHL Network is showing Capitals at Penguins. Pascal Dupuis recently retired from hockey due to medical conditions regarding blood clots. Earlier tonight in the Washington Capitals at Pittsburgh Penguins game, a little tribute video was played looking back at P. Dupuis' career. It was so cool.

Let's run down the Monday action.

* Edmonton left Boston with the win. The Oilers needed overtime to put away the Bruins 3-2.

* The new Pittsburgh Penguins coach had a tall order ahead of him as the Washington Capitals came to town. The Steel City saw the Capitals win 4-1.

* The Tampa Bay Lightning went up to Columbus and took down the Blue Jackets 2-1.

* MoTown was the place as the Detroit Red Wings hosted the Buffalo Sabres. Not a good night at The Joe as the Sabres won 2-1.

* The only game played in Canada was in Canada's capital city. It was also the only game where the home team won. The Ottawa Senators beat the visiting Los Angeles Kings 5-3.

Congratulations to the winners from Monday. Tuesday (or today as of this post) has 11 games! Among the Tuesday matches are Vancouver at Minnesota, Columbus at Dallas, Colorado at Chicago, St. Louis at Winnipeg, and Edmonton at the New York Rangers among other matches.

[UPDATE] COL at CHI.

Columbus at Dallas, and Colorado at Chicago. Changes made. On a different note, I can't believe Patrick Kane's scoring streak is now at 26 games heading into tonight. Maybe he'll keep it going tonight.

Only two games tonight. Can you believe it?

It is a Wednesday, so that means WedMisspelled "Winnipeg" Night Rivalry. This week, two varieties of black and gold will clash in Boston. The Pittsburgh Penguins will play at the Boston Bruins. And, uh... these two don't like each other very much. Here is your Wednesday night of hockey:

* OTT Senators at WAS Capitals
* PIT Penguins at BOS Bruins

Enjoy some hockey tonight.

A few scores from last night...

* The Minnesota Wild feasted on the Vancouver Canucks at home with a 6-2 victory in St. Paul, MN. Six different Wild players scored, including RedDragon's crush Zach Parise. :)

* The Dallas Stars had no problem with the Columbus Blue Jackets, winning 5-1 in Dallas.

* The Chicago Blackhawks hosted the Colorado Avalanche in a game televised on NBCSN. No scoring for you as the Avalanche won 3-0. R.I.P., Kane scoring streak...

* It was 4-3 in Winnipeg as the beautiful blue and gold uniforms of the St. Louis Blues got themselves the win at the Winnipeg Jets.

* Calgary and Nashville couldn't handle their business in sixty minutes. So Overtime was needed in Nashville as the Calgary Flames won 2-1.

* Regulation didn't solve anything in Toronto, either, when Toronto hosted Tampa Bay. The Lightning thunderstruck the Maple Leafs 5-4.

Of course... congratulations to all other winners from Tuesday.

[UPDATE] Misspelled "Winnipeg"

It was the battle of teams from capital cities between our nation's capital (Washington, D.C.) and Canada's capital (Ottawa). All to be settled in Washington, D.C. The Washington Capitals defeated the Ottawa Senators 2-1 in Washington, D.C., USA.

The other game was two different black and gold teams, and the team golden on this night was the Boston Bruins blanking Pittsburgh 3-0. Tuukka Rask picked up his fourth shutout of the season, which tied him for first in the NHL in shutout wins at goalie.

Congratulations to both Washington and Boston.

Funny story: the Wild lead the NHL in shutouts with 6 so far this season

The Wild grabbed Jarrett Stoll of waivers from the New York Rangers. He brings much needed size and grit to the Wild as well as a lot of face off savvy and playoff experience

Also Zach Parise is gonna be my husband someday. I don't care that he has a wife right now. He's gonna be my husband :p

Here is a quick look at the standings heading into today's and tonight's games:

--- EASTERN CONFERENCE ---
ATLANTIC (Top 3): Montreal (20-9-3, 43 pts.), BOS (17-9-4, 38 pts.), DET (16-9-6, 38 pts.)
METROPOLITAN (Top 3): Washington (22-6-2, 46 pts.), NYR (19-9-4, 42 pts.), NYI (18-9-5, 41 pts.)
EASTERN WILD CARD: Ottawa (16-11-5, 37 pts.), New Jersey (16-11-4, 41 pts.)

--- WESTERN CONFERENCE ---
CENTRAL (Top 3): Dallas (23-6-2, 48 pts.), STL (18-10-4, 40 pts.), MIN (16-7-6, 38 pts.)
PACIFIC (Top 3): Los Angeles (19-9-2, 40 pts.), SJ (15-14-1, 31 pts.), ARI (14-14-2, 30 pts.)
WESTERN WILD CARD: Chicago (17-11-4, 38 pts.), Nashville (15-10-6, 36 pts.)

When I checked the further standings, the hottest team right now (no pun intended) is the Calgary Flames, winners of six straight. Second hottest team right now is the Colorado Avalanche with their three-game winning streak. Both teams play tonight. The Flames will play at the Dallas Stars, and the Colorado Avalanche will host the New York Islanders.

I hear that Devan Dubnyk will start tonight for the Minnesota Wild as the Wild will host the New York Rangers. This will surely be a welcome sight for Wild fans.

Yes it's a welcome sight but nit 100% to be honest. Darcy Kuemper was playing really well in net for us so hopefully Duuubbs can cone in and replicate that

Congrats to the Kings on the 3-0 shutout at Montreal. Now for some other results from Thursday's 11 games...

* RedDragon's Minnesota Wild easily put down the New York Rangers 5-2 in St. Paul, MN. To use college sports speak, Mikko Koivu was the big man on campus with two goals. Dumba, Pominville, and Porter combined for the other three goals. McDonagh and Moore combined for NYR's two goals.

* Good night for the Wild, not so good in Dallas. Sanji Himura's Stars got burned by the visiting Calgary Flames 3-1. Johnny Oduya broke up the shutout for Dallas.

* After failing to score in their last game, the Chicago Blackhawks went right back to work and went back to scoring with a 4-0 victory over the visiting Edmonton Oilers.

* 2-1 was the score in Denver as the Colorado Avalanche took out the New York Islanders.

* kolio's St. Louis Blues tamed the Nashville Predators 2-1 in St. Louis.

* Another blue and gold team won tonight, and that would be the Buffalo Sabres winning 3-0 hosting the Anaheim Ducks.

* The Vancouver Canucks got whooped at Minnesota in their previous game. Their trip to Philadelphia didn't go too well either- a 2-0 shutout by the Flyers.

* The Florida Panthers exorcised the New Jersey Devils 5-1 in Newark.

* In Phoenix, it was an offensive shootout between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Arizona Coyotes with 12 goals scored. Unfortunately for Arizona, it was Columbus who got the better of the 7-5 score.

* The only game that had to be settled in Overtime was between the San Jose Sharks and the Toronto Maple Leafs. In Toronto, San Jose escaped with a 5-4 win in Overtime.

That covers just about everybody from Thursday. Congratulations to all winners.

College football may have ruled today with Bowl season, but the NHL had themselves some fun on this day also. Some of today's 10 games are featured in this rundown...

* The Chicago Blackhawks needed a Shootout to down the Buffalo Sabres 3-2 in Buffalo.

* Another Shootout was in Columbus. The Columbus Blue Jackets took down the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2.

* 3-2 was the score that the Nashville Predators defeated RedDragon's Minnesota Wild in Nashville.

* Sanji Himura's Dallas Stars did real good, winning 6-2 at home against the the Montreal Canadiens.

* kolio's St. Louis Blues iced the Calgary Flames 3-2 in St. Louis.

* Toronto hosted the Los Angeles Kings, and the Kings took an ugly 5-0 beating in beautiful Toronto.

Congratulations to the other winners from Saturday.

I think that we proved that the Canadiens are no issue without Carey Price. That 6-2 score is pretty deceptive considering that the team with Carey Price is 10-2, and since the injury has been 3-7-1 before last night's action. But there were a lot of penalties last night, 14 total penalties to be exact. It was a sloppy game, I like it.

The Red Wings got their 800th win in the Joe Louis Arena tonight by a 4-2 victory over the Calgary Flames.

800 at The Joe? Wow! I know I kept hearing the Red Wings will move to a new arena in the future, but it's great to see the Red Wings pick up yet another win at the storied Joe Louis Arena.

It looks like we got an inner-forum rivalry tonight as two of our GTPlaneteers have a little play date tonight. The Dallas Stars will play at the Minnesota Wild. It's a Central Division showdown between Sanji Himura's Stars and RedDragon's Wild. We shall see how this one goes in St. Paul, MN. This is one of eight games tonight. So go enjoy some NHL hockey tonight.

Tonight's inner-forum rivalry went to Sanji Himura's Dallas Stars, doubling up RedDragon's Minnesota Wild 6-3 in St. Paul. The Wild was up 2-0 after one period. 2nd Period and afterwards... all Dallas. Minnesota could manage only one more goal in the 3rd Period while Dallas found the back of the net three more times in the 3rd.

Minnesota's next five games are below, including a few more possible GTP inner-forum rivalries:
* Montreal (Dec. 22)
* Pittsburgh (Dec. 26)
* Detroit (Dec. 28)
* at St. Louis (Dec. 31)
* at Tampa Bay (Jan. 2, 2016)

Elsewhere...

* Pittsburgh needed some help, and they got more than enough with a 5-2 win at home against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

* The Keystone State's other NHL team, the Philadelphia Flyers, got themselves a 4-3 victory over kolio's St. Louis Blues in Philly.

* The Nashville Preadators welcomed the Montreal Canadiens to their house. At the same time, the Preds feasted on the Habs with a 5-1 victory.

* It was a 2-1 victory for the Washington Capitals as they played at the Carolina Hurricanes.

* The New York Islanders won 5-2 at home against the Anaheim Ducks.

Congratulations to the other winners from Monday, including the eventual winners of the two games still in progress- WPG at EDM and TOR at COL.

NBCSN will show the Montreal Canadiens at the Minnesota Wild at 8:00 PM EST. So if you're flipping through channels trying to find a game, there's one for you tonight. The New Jersey Devils will be in MoTown to take on AnthonyD1993's Detroit Red Wings at The Joe. The big one for tonight is Brutaka's Chicago Blackhawks at Sanji Himura's Dallas Stars.

Plenty of big games tonight, so go enjoy some hockey on this Tuesday night.

I can't help but laugh at all the muppets who thought the Canadiens would be contenders when they started 9-0-0 this year. This team is absolutely awful. Fire Therrien, sell everyone except Price and Galchenyuk. Even Subban should be on the block, he's too much of a diva to have long term success in a market like Montreal.

The NHL will be on a Christmas Break after tonight's games. So before the break, here's a little rundown of action from Tuesday...

* The big one tonight was Blackhawks at Stars. Score-wise, not even close. Like... Dallas winning 4-0 not close.

* How did the Minnesota Wild do hosting the Montreal Canadiens? According to frustrations from our Anthony, the Habs lost. RedDragon's Minnesota Wild won 2-1.

* We got an all-Canada match with the Winnipeg Jets at the Calgary Flames. The Flames won 4-1 in Calgary.

* The Arizona Coyotes treated the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs to a 3-2 loss.

* AnthonyD1993's Detroit Red Wings do pretty well against the New Jersey Devils, I'm told. Tonight, though... not so much. The Devils went into MoTown and won 4-3.

* The Vancouver Canucks handled their business well on the road at the Tampa Bay Lightning. The boys from Vancouver won 2-1 at Tampa Bay.

* When regulation AND Overtime solve nothing in a regular season NHL game, you need a Shootout to settle the score. So was the case with Florida's other NHL team. Florida won 2-1 over the visiting Ottawa Senators in a Shootout.

* Blue and gold. Black and gold. St. Louis Blues at Boston Bruins. It was not a good night for the home team as kolio's St. Louis Blues won 2-0. The only scoring in this game was in the 3rd Period.

* Sixty minutes wasn't enough at Madison Square Garden. So in Overtime, the New York Rangers took down the Anaheim Ducks 3-2.

As of the time of this post, the game between San Jose at Los Angeles is in the 2nd Period with the Kings leading 3-2. Congratulations to whomever wins this game, and of course, congrats to all winners on this Tuesday.

And you think the Wild are a good indicator of a team at the top if their game right now? Our number 1 goalie was lit up last night, we still have issues scoring and we still haven't solved any issues at centre. Eric Haula and Jarret Stoll aren't the answer. We have a huge amount of depth at D and as much as I don't want to see any of it go we need to put someone on the block to find a centre somewhere whi can help us out. We can't spend time faffing around with cute little trades in this division. We need to get stuff done to stay relevant

Jimmy Howard was garbage last night. He gave up 3 in the first period alone last night.....

Hockey News:

Defenseman Raphael Diaz has signed a five year deal with EV Zug of National League A, which kicks in next season for an unspecified amount of money, according to sources with Complete Hockey News.

The contract will come with an NHL out clause if he is offered a two-year, one-way contract.

Diaz will finish the season in North America, where he is currently with the New York Rangers.

No action today- it's the Christmas Break. So to pass the time, you can always pretend there's a game on tonight. Here are some ideas...

* We can pretend tonight's Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals between two Original Six teams. Imagine if it was Detroit vs. Chicago with Game 7 at The Joe.

* We can also pretend either Columbus and/or Anaheim somehow went from dead last in their Conferences... to end up winning their respective divisions and make the postseason. Worst to first, baby!

* How about an all-Canadian Stanley Cup Finals series? What if the Stanley Cup came down to Montreal and Vancouver?

* Or possibly... we can imagine the Minnesota Wild playing Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals against Tampa Bay in St. Paul. Game goes into Overtime. Either team needs a hero. Then... Zach Parise knocks in the game-winning, series-winning, championship-winning goal as the XCEL Energy Center goes nuts. The Wild hoists up Lord Stanley's Cup, and in an interview, Zach talks about how great it feels to be champs, but then says something along the lines of "winning the Stanley Cup is cool and all, but would be even better is if I dedicate this win and this championship to a special Wild fan." And afterwards, Zach Parise mentions our RedDragon as that special fan and agrees to date RedDragon, and the two live happily ever after. :)

Now for a few more lighthearted comments.

Yeah, no hockey tonight. But you can always imagine some NHL action going on or see some old NHL videos. I was watching last night a few videos on Derek Boogard from 2008-2009. Sad he's no longer with us, but Boogard is the kind of guy I'd want for my hockey team to be an enforcer when people make cheap shots on one of my teammates on the ice.

I did a little reading on Zach Parise. I found out he's from Minneapolis, so it's cool to have a local player play for a local team now that he's with the Wild. Parise used to be with the New Jersey Devils. He is also about 1.5 years younger than me. So I will keep a close eye on #11 for the Wild.

There's talk about trying to curb fighting in the NHL. To be honest, I actually hope this doesn't happen. I do watch hockey for gritty and hard-fought action. Fighting isn't hockey, but it is part of hockey. And besides, who doesn't love a good fight? It helps having players who aren't afraid to assert themselves or take out players on the other team who put cheap shots on your team. Again- fighting isn't the game, but it is part of it.

You all have a Merry Christmas! :)

NHL Network shown highlights of the 2014 Winter Classic between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings played at "The Big House" in Ann Arbor, MI, USA. These two Original Six teams and bitter rivals played to a Shootout to where Toronto won 3-2. I think I actually saw this game on TV when it was live.

The game to be played next Friday will be two more Original Six teams, only this time- the Montreal Canadiens vs. the Boston Bruins in Foxboro, MA, USA. That should be a pretty fun game to be played on New Year's Day.
