+1 for heavy and 34 and 32 looking better, (33 is driven by idiots, and looks ****)

I don't think so. When stock, I bet the R33 handles best. It understeers less than the R32. A bit equal with the R34. The R34 is of a higher tier than the two, but eh, who says that the R33 is ****?

@topic: I used to be a GT-R fanboy, but all it lacked is character of some sort. I could swap for a Chevy V8 but I don't think it would be a true GT-R without the VR38DETT.

I think the star of these cars would be the ZR1 RWD and gobs of power unlike the AWD on the GT-R.

The ACR is nice but the ZR1 is a full car while the ACR is a racecar

1. The ACR has the same interior as the regular Viper

2. The ACR showed up at the Ring, drove 4 laps and took the record, while Chevy lapped the track over and over while fine tuning the car

Nurburging laps are unduly praised as being some kind of definitive ranking, when they really aren't terribly valuable. Run the cars under the same conditions for multiple laps and then you might have something. Taking two random lap times and declaring that the car with the better time as faster doesn't work out very well most of the time.

But manufacturers know TG will give it to the stig so THEY will set it up i.e put good tyres on etc. And its being driven by the same guy all the time so the cars have a fair chance but the MP4 was designed using the TGTT which gives it a wee bit of an advantage.

Temperature, humidity, wind, they all make as big a difference as the driver. The only place where you can drive a car in September and compare it to one driven in May without worry of error created by different conditions is in a simulator.

Even with the same driver, you can have issues. Is he used to left side driving or right? Things like that.

I'll give you weather conditions but they do not have as much impact as the driver, not always i.e snow or heavy rain may well do. Whether the car is left or right hand drive is irrelevant. A GOOD driver can drive both.

I like the gtr, but then again I like most japanese cars. Good handling, not bad looking, full of tech and dirt cheap compared to european equivilents.

Nissan sold its soul to the devil, it's the only explanation

3.8l V6 Bi-Turbo
520 hp
All Wheel Drive
4 seats
1,730 kg
And beating Ferrari Enzos, 599s and all the tralala. God damn

Personally, I love the GT-R, although my in-game one hasn't been raced since the days of the SSR7 glitch. My favourite of the Skylines is the R32 (well, come on, the protagonist of my the first 2 volumes of my fanfic drove one!)

Certainly is a fast car. Probably faster than it "should" be. I do think it is a bit overhyped at times though. It puts down very fast times, but it also puts down times like other cars. A lot of tests put it on par with the R8, 911 Turbo, Corvette, etc.

One thing about Top Gear's track is that they use a standing start, so cars that are really great off the line get a small advantage. I kind of wish that they would do a standing start, rolling start, and rival runs where similar cars are driven on the same day.

As for being too fast in GT5, I think the GT5 version is alright, though 4WD in general seems a little strong (not really too much understeer with power). GT5P's version was ridiculous.

All in all, an impressive car, though I think I would take the R-34 Z Tune over it. I still can't forgive the car for being so heavy, and the old ones looked better for what that's worth.

I agree with this

I've noticed that there have been some posts and threads in here that hate on the GT-R, accusations that the developers made it better than it actually is, blah, de, blah.

Anyway, there may well be a reason it's as good as it is in the game. And that's because it's s**t hot and deadly IRL. Sadly I'm going to have to watch it again on catch-up, as my Virgin box took a nose dive during the broadcast.

Top Gear put the latest iteration of the GT-R around the Test Track last night, you can find the times in the link below. Even the older version posted a frankly superb time.

PS – I know it’s far from being 'scientific', but look at the company it's keeping…
It's a fantastic car, it's the hype of being "faster than it should be" that irritates me.
It's not faster than it should be, it's exactly as fast as it should be. It's a technological wonder in ways, but in ways that lesson driver skill required to operate.
It essentially has a full blown racing transmission that shifts in the blink of an eye, all of it's million computer sensors calibrate and adjust everything, all you have to to is grip it and rip it.
If they could make this same car weigh 3500 lbs, then it would be a true terror, but as of now it losses most of it's gains by being so overweight, speaking in terms of professional drivers, in terms of everyday joes though, it'll make them look like superheroes.

In short, GTR's were designed to make bad drivers look better, and that's a pretty offensive concept to me.

Most of the hype it gets I think it deserves. I mean, it's mowing down cars that are over twice the price. And when you drive a real one on the track, you don't notice the weight as much as you'd think.

It's hard to have a positive opinion of a car that I'm pretty sure is out to kill me.

It'd be okay if it was honest about it from the begining. "Hi. I'm your new car, but I'm also an assassin. Guess why I'm here." With Lamborghinis, you know that you'll get where you're going, and your head will be on fire when you get there. We love Lambos because they're honest about it. Even Ferraris are known for being a bit diva-ish, but owning one is like being married to a Hollywood actress... you know it's going to end badly, you know you'll be broke afterwards, but dear God is she beautiful and totally worth it!

When I drive the GT-R, everythings fine and dandy at first. We chat, get around, and each time the car points to something new. It's nice when a car communicates with you, and Jackie Stewart once said that everything a car does should be an invitation, not a challenge. Quite true. But when the GT-R points out things, it's only to distract me so she can dive head first to the closest wall, and as fast as possible.

I guess, in summation, owning a GT-R is like being married to Courtney Love.

The new 2012 GT-R beat the Veyron on the Top Gear Test Track. Fastest lap time around the Nurburgring is 7:24 seconds. I just seen the car yesterday on Top Gear because someone mentioned it and I was just in awe. Anyone who hasn't seen the new GT-R review on Top Gear NEEDS to see it.

All I have to say to that is:

MP4-12C

McLaren has prestige. Nissan is the underdog. Nissan is the best.

Leonidae 👍

The MP4-12C is a spectacle though. I think Jeremy's stupid comment about it not having any "zing' or whatever is just stubborn and foolish. I like how the new McLaren looks.

I've heard quite a few motoring jounalists say this about Skylines / GT-R's in the past - that the cars are unbelieveably easy to drive unbelieveably fast, but they are missing a certain "x-faxtor". Like they're missing soul or something.

I've heard that too.

I believe it was Nissan's goal to make a car that was very refined and packed with technology. Thus this can make an average driver feel like a great driver. For everything the GTR packs, its a pretty decent price compared to its competition.

I like the GTR, but personally I'd rather have a Boss 302 or a ZR1.

Interesting. I believe that x-factor they forgot to keep in mind though is how much a Skyline can be tuned. I'm not one that knows the specifics but I think it's obvious they can be turned into hell rides.

Oh yea, I'm not a power hungry "give me Suped UP SKYLINE!". I will be ecstatic if I ever get the chance to buy either the old Skylines or even more the new GT-R's.

You can't really say GT-R's are for noobs when cars are aimed to be able to drive easily. AND this is the future, cars are supposed to drive better.

Damn those journalists..................

Hit the nail on the head with the tuning capabilities.

There's a Supra running around where I live that is a complete monster. Seen it at a car show and the guy had all the dyno sheets from a few weeks earlier. If I remember correctly it had 700-800 rwhp with the stock twin turbo still intact. Car had just about every bolt on imaginable and some very extensive ECU tuning.

I would imagine the GTR is similar to the Supra as far as tuning, but on a different scale of course. Probably wouldn't be hard to squeeze 1000 hp out it. Actually, I'm going to see if I can dig some stuff up about modded GTR's right now.

Almost 1000hp. At about the 30 second mark get ready to hold on:lol: Man, I love that exhaust note.

This one is well over 1000hp. This car has got to be a riot to drive.

Whereas I'd rather have an Aston or something like a Lambo or Ferarri...

But ANY car can be tuned. Fifth Gear ran a Toyota Starlet against a Dodge Viper (well, Chrysler RT/10 over here) and the Starlet made the Viper look like it was going backwards.

Anyway, I'm not sure tunig has anything to do with it - the car goes like a stabbed rat and it's not like it handles like a greasy weasel. It's just that some machines seem to have more soul, more life, more... erm something! than others. The GT-R appears to be a bit lacking in this department.

Would have one in a heartbeat, though.

I think the '09 GT-R is a beautiful car I'm going to go on YouTube and look for the Top Gear Episode of the 2012 GT-R

Great car. if I win the Lotto tomorrow, it would probably be the first thing I'll buy on Monday. Then go for a very long drive, towards Germany.
