No assists, a joke?

It really depends on which car im using....since i leave 90% of my cars bone stock the cars true characterisc show... Driving the Mclaren F1 without any aids is damn near impossible to drive fast in an online race (even with racing softs) so i put tcs to 4 and put Skid recovery ON......compared to my LP670-4 SV, i leave abs at 1 and turn EVERYTHING off and pretty much destroy any car that is close in performance i.e enzos, zondas etc...

I don't get this, I drive all the road/sports/super cars on sports tyres, the Mclaren F1 on Sports softs and use only ABS-1 and find the car is absolutely amazing, easy to drive, it can punish you hard but so long as you respect it you will be rewarded

On the otherhand I found the Lamborghini is crazy like it actually is some wild bull (Chromeline Murcielago), its back end wants to come out all the time, but because its 4WD it has some crazy traction too, so you end up just powersliding around half the corners pointing the nose at the exit and it has so much traction at that point it just drives out.

Safe to say, i'm not the fastest in the Chromeline Murcielago, but I certaintly find it much harder to drive than the Mclaren F1 (Which is the fastest production road car I've driven in GT5 by quite a margin).

Teamwork yes , driving skill no, which is why Dale Earnhardt has trouble winning at Daytona. The fact all the cars are pack in like can of sardines is because it's harder to out drive the other drivers. This is why even in Nascar games including NR2003 these tracks were the most boring of all tracks.

First of all Dale Earnhardt did win Daytona and also is probably the winninest restrictor plate driver there is!! second the reason he didnt win the 500 for so long was just simply bad luck a number of years, he had everything from a blown tire on the last lap to a damn seagull on the last lap cost him that race until he finally won the 500. He had won plenty of races at Daytona and Talledega for the exception of that one particular race.

Yes it takes allot of skills to race and win on a restrictor plate track. If you dont have skills you end up causing whats called "the big one".

i agree totally.one must first understand that it is a part of the total setup of a car.seems easy to just switch off and forget about it.most just want to drive not knowing there missing out on a car that is in fact a better car to drive.most cars come standard with abs, like the one in most peoples driveways.this game is based on reality and not someone who is trying to get a supposed advantage while racing!there are to many factors involved.boils down to race and have fun.if your good you will shine other wise put away the hanky :dunce:

Driving a Peugeot 908 or an Audi R1 without TC is not "more realistic"

I think you missed my point. It makes the driving, and the techniques used more realistic... not the cars. You have to roll into the gas pedal, throttle steer, modulate the brakes, etc.

Disclosure... I use TC when I drive the 908... the car exceeds my talent.

Driving the Minolta without aids (besides ABS 1) gives me greater satisfaction than with. It can be frustrating at first but you adjust your technique (light on the gas in 2nd!) and eventually you forget you ever needed aids. Now if I turn them on the car seems boring and racing becomes more stale. Kind of like going back to driving AT. The thrill is gone.

Exactly. With TC on you can drive the car like SpongeBob Squarepants . (The first thing SpongeBob does when entering a boat-car is floor the gas pedal.) TC off adds risk to racing.

In most cases I dont use assists other than ABS-1 and driving line on tracks im still not used to. With that being said I dont discriminate against anyone who needs or prefers to use any or all assists. Whatever it takes to have a good competitive race.

I agree, I think it's pretty cool people have the choice of assists if they are less experienced. Also for just a few events I find myself needing them, sadly enough. At the moment i'm struggling on the Ferrari F1 races as the smallest error (especially at Tokyo) can be disastrous, but I appreciate that's driver error and i'm determined not to activate SRF! I do use TC for these though, as F1 cars use it anyway :)

For the most part though, I run with all aids off except ABS at 1. I'm not too great at regulating or feathering my braking with the DS3, took me long enough to get used to throttle control, but the time may come.

Am I the only one who thinks this thread is a bit of a troll? And what's the point of cussing in the middle of all that. The OP just seems like an angry troll.

Racing video game forums everywhere are literally littered with folks trying to show off how big their packages are by constantly going on about how they race "no assists".

I like to call it "stig replica helmet strapped on too tight syndrome". Meaning, these people get in their toy cockpits, with their toy wheels, and turn off all the assists and somehow think just doing that makes them better than others. It's really funny stuff to read sometimes.

Even funnier when you join one of the lobbies of a vocal assist elitist. I used to make a point of doing so in Forza 2 and let me tell you, most who are screaming so loudly that they don't run assists are the first who should be going into the options and turning them on. You'll never see so much brake locking and sliding in and out of corners as you will see in the assists elitist rooms.

I couldn't care less what people do. If people brag and say how awesome they are at computer games they need a life. I usually have abs and tc set on 1, but if I wanna have some fun TC is off

I know I will be hung from a tree for this, but I feel it needs to be brought up.

Am I the only one who has a good laugh at all the folks around here who constantly want to remind you how they never use any assists? I'm being serious, do they even know what realism is?

I for one use assists based on which car I am driving.
Am I driving a full blown race car or am I driving a stock production vehicle.

Surely if I go down to my local Lamborghini dealership and ask to drive the Murcielago and how to turn off the assists I will be laughed at. Therefore, you better believe I turn on TCS, ASM, and ABS when driving it in GT5.
Why you may ask? Because the real 🤬 car has a full blown state-of-the-art Electronic Stability Control system.

Furthermore, do those same people understand that some race cars do indeed have a form of traction control and/or other assists?
Traction control was only banned in Formula 1 at the start of the 2008 season. That says something right there. Therefore, guess what? When I drive the F2007, yes I turn on TCS.

I think its all just preference. I drive with 0 TC and normally 10 ABS. I just like the way most of my cars handle that way.

Never ran into one of these types, but I can understand it a little bit. Anyone would feel entitled to feel like a badass when mastering a car without any electronic nannies, even when it's all just in a simulation.

However, like many things, talking about going no-assist and making it make a difference is really the six degrees of separation here. It's like having a Desert Eagle and the difference is whether or not you can actually hit a target at 100 yards with it or if you wave it around like a magic wand and blow your own foot off. The people the OP seems to be describing are staunchly the latter: the ones who are more likely to blow their own feet off instead of shoot like Jerry Miculek.

Going assists off has never been about being "better" to me, and I don't think it should be. I usually switch off the assists just because I want to have more fun with a car: I like to have wheels that bite back and I'm in love with the feel of a car in the raw. Does that make me better than anyone else? Cod no, I choke on my own tire smoke like an idiot, but I couldn't care less. I always have fun letting the car throw its temper tantrum because I want those things: it's a simulator and I revel in the kinds of nuanced out-of-control situations that I don't get to enjoy in more arcadey titles.

What is the point about saying you're teh ****z because you don't use assists? I don't and it's not because I'm better than anyone: I'm just a class A maniac that wants to perform the world's worst Ken Block impression now and again and I don't care who looks.

Tyger
I do use TC for these though, as F1 cars use it anyway :)

Traction control has been banned in F1 for years. The drivers are just amazing and are able to drive for most of the lap at 100% throttle without TC or any other driver aid including ABS.

Edit TC was banned from 94-01 in 01 the ban was lifted and then banned again in 07.

I for one use assists based on which car I am driving.

..yup.. so if you researched that a car didn't have assists, would you turn them off?

Edit: Also, are you a DS3 or wheel user? I think it makes a big difference specifically for ABS.. ABS off with a DS3 demands full attention.

and this is why i love old cars spacial renault 5's and mk 2 escorts 80's cars and yes its up to you how you play i bet am not the only one who plays whit out the driveing line you sould know all the tracks by now whit have'ing to use prob know even better and faster lines to take :)

have started gt5 again .with my DFGT this time.

everything that can be turned off is off.

personally more fun for me this time round

I use ABS on 1 most of the time. If I'm online & it's dirty racing I'll have traction control on otherwise I try to go without. I tend to post faster times without the aids as it's that little extra bit of control over the car.

As for what other people use, different strokes for different folks. Play the game how you want, you paid for it.

I don't use assists, because I wouldn't use them in real life. If a car is unable to have them turned off, then I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want it anyways. That or I would figure out how to do it. Removed ABS from two of my IRL vehicles aleady. (ABS is the least of my worries when it comes to aids, but using that as an example.) I generally do use ABS in-game, because of the lack of feel you would get from the car, making no abs much harder then irl.

As for any of the other aids...

Tcs is for the most part just slowing you down, unless you don't have very good throttle control.
Asm and srf simply don't exhist in real life, so are never used by me.

No aids for me has never been about being better then anyone else. Just about bettering myself.

ASM is absolutely available on many RL cars.

Isn't ASM where the game actually helps you steer? Wasn't aware RL cars had that...

I'm probably thinking of a different game feature... Was thinking asm was active steering, must be stability.

Agree with the post, I dont care what option they have turn it on, ASB....etc

It's like you driving a jaguar XJ13 and you said people who drive the newest technology for example lambo aventador a cheater because they have ASB, Traction Control.....it's wrong.
