So Apple released a huge press statement on the antenna problem:

Don't hold it that way.

What?

I know :lol:

I reckon it's a manufacturing thing and they don't want to admit it. Apparently Engadget's test model doesn't suffer from the issue, so my guess is it's the ones they've spat out in a rush that are doing it. And of course they're so heavily sold out that recalling them would make everyone cry.

Again, still no problem with my iPhone 4, then again i hold it normally. Maybe i'm holding it different to everyone else.

Oh yeah, and i'm left handed.

I can reduce my signal on my 3GS from 5 bars to 1 bar by using the Left-Handed-Death-Grip. However, even having had my phone for a year I’ve never noticed this, probably because I don’t actually hold my phone in that way (and I do mostly use my phone left-handed). I also went to the Apple Store yesterday and tried to kill the signal on the demo units and couldn’t.

Not that I’m saying people aren’t having problems. But we’re probably talking about something that legitimately and seriously affects a percent of a percent of a percent of people.

All iPhone 4 users should definitely watch the video in the latest news article on gtplanet.net.

It looks soo good it's scary. Really shows off the new screen really really well.

The main complaint on this issue right now is that people are saying Apple knew about this and decided to sell the phones anyway.

Those iPhone bumpers that they oddly created, are supposed to be a remedy for the issue, and supposedly Apple is handing those out to free in the UK (for customers with the issues).

Rumor has it there will be a update early next week to fix this as the issue is just with the phone software losing bars, when it still has a good signal.

It's funny, it struck me as a little odd when I heard they'd actually made a case for the things. I think the last time Apple made a case for anything was the iPod sock (or rather sock(s), as ridiculously they made you buy 5 at a time).

In other news, the iPhone I didn't actually ask for will apparently be available 'the week beginning the 19th', and they'll be phoning me next week to arrange which particular contract I'll be on. Or rather, which particular contract they assume I actually want to go on to. It's also very clever of them to reserve me 'an' iPhone without even asking me which size or model I'd like, particularly when I hadn't even decided myself. Clearly they've obtained some sort of 3G-powered crystal ball, and can now tell what I want even before I know I want it - now that's customer service.

Don't forget about the official iPad case.

Bah, gonna get the Iphone 4 the second its out here in Canada to replace my crackberry pearl. Just wondering why Canada has such a delay, yet countries such as Japan have it the same day the US gets it... Hell, there isn't even an official release date. Just a late July release is what I've been told....

Canada = 34 million people

Japan = 127 million
UK = 64 million
France = 65 million
Germany = 82 million

I highly doubt a software tweak will solve physically bridging the antennas, leading to no reception. It is a hardware failing and you just need to prevent it.

Thus, the bumpers.

No flash = no buy.

I'd love to know why. The only place i use flash at the moment is video and adverts.

All decent video sites, youtube etc now encode iphone versions.
All flash adverts are annoying and eat bandwidth.

I genuinely would love to know what i'm missing out on.

This. Also, there is an LED flash on the back.

Oh people are only upset because something is being taken away without their consent. Whether or not its removal is beneficial doesn't enter anyone's minds, all anyone concerned with is the fact that it's gone. I was pretty much the same until I noticed one day that Flash had a nasty habit of stealing all of my laptop's resources, so now I've installed FlashBlock and everything's much better. And there's the added bonus of all the web's adverts disappearing.

I think the problem is caused by a bug affecting iOS 4's frequency selection. Here is a good description of the problem and how a software update could fix it.

Ordered mine but no where has any stock so i need to wait, no one knows how long the wait will be tho !!

5 days or so, and still happy as a .......... in ...........

This phone hasnt slowed down once, its very suprising really. Very very responsive all the time. I tried using my 3G iphone the other day, i can't go back to it.

The screen is fantastic, just watch a couple of HQ videos, a couple of nice photos and you'll see what i mean. Unfortunately, i now look at my computer monitor and HDTV with a different opinion. They just aren't sharp enough.

The reception issue i've seen in plenty of videos but have yet to experience it first hand. Will try and recreate the conditions of the guys in the videos and let everyone know.

The most overlooked new feature is the noise cancellation. It works very well in noisy enviroments. I often work in enviroments with big communications cabinets and air handling units. This means a loud constant drone of fans. When making a few test calls, the other end of the line couldn't hear the fans anywere near as much as one the iphone 3g. The person at the other end was actually convinced i had moved into a different room.

So, anyone fill me in on what i'm missing out on without Adobe Flash, i'm waiting! :)

I haven't really had much experience with 'facetime', but the front facing camera is quite good for a VGA.

I'm still waiting for my new micro sim to come though the post, hopefully it should be here in the next few days, then I can start to use my iPhone, I'm still stuck using my 3G at the moment.

I picked up my new 32GB iPhone 4 at my local AT&T store early this morning. :D The screen is incredible - for a few seconds I actually thought I was having trouble focusing my eyes when I looked back at my old 3GS. With that said, I'm not pleased with how the 4 feels in my hands. It looks good, but the edge feels rough and somewhat more difficult to hold than the older, rounded form factors. I'm considering a Bumper case or something similar which should help. The white Bumper does look very nice.

That bumper does look very nice actually. Better than i expected.
I agree the old screens look rubbish compared to the new, you know now,you cant ever go back to a lower resolution screen.

The issue with holding the device, i think its just a matter of time till you get used to it. When i picked up my iPhone 3G, couldn't help but think it felt like a brick.

Have you noticed mobile web graphics need updating on a lot of sites to suit the new screen? I think GTPLANET's ok though. :)
i.tuaw.com , the title bar looks awful because of the resolution increase.

Might also be a good time to update the icon GTPlanet has on my iphone when i bookmark a page and save it on the desktop. Looks a little out of focus compared to all the new fancy icons. :)

Constantly tracking my order on parcel force - should be delivered today.

My Zagg invisible shield hasnt arrived yet so im in two minds about using it until i can at least get a screen protector on it then i'll go about buying the apple bumper (still undecided about colour).

Lime green on Black would be awesome, but they do want a pretty penny for some rubber to lets you keep your calls going.

Such is the way of Apple.

Well I'm using the new phone after the faulty sim and I must say I will retract the statement I made about the screen. It's much much better than the old phone and apps are slick and fast. GTP looks good but I agree some sites look awful. Even the TUAW and Engadget apps look pants now on this screen.

Signal problems haven't troubled me yet but I can't see it giving me any greif.

Jordan that bumper does look nice but they are bit pricey.
