What's the point of even getting XP from the Nurburgring 24 hour race?
You're already level 40.

Its called completing the game. Its like collecting all the secret items in a platform game, people do it because they enjoy completing the game 100%

The difference between people who race cars in the real world, and race cars in a video game, is this thread. I don't race cars in the real world, but things like the 24 hour Nurburgring races are a massive following that people are extremely passionate about.

This!

Passion about the real life event and trying to run it with a competitive and not just win it in 3 laps kind off a car!

Not everything in this game is meant to act like a game me thinks...
Probably not even half. It's made for people who love it all in real life etc...

That is called a pride event. The only reason to run that race is so you can say "I did it". I ran the 24hr Nurb race in GT4 by doing 8 hours a day for 3 days. In doing so I accomplished the following:

Nothing, but... I did it!

well if you want to complete GT5 100% then you will have to do the 24h Nurburgring - and you probably get a car for reaching 100% of game

it doesnt matter if you are on both A & B spec lvl 40 if are on 99%

i will do the 24h Nurburgring for sure, currently lvl 37.... so in about 2-3 months ill be ready...

I think someone should start a thread petition for saving during endurance races (I would but haven't had enough posts to do so). I think it could work as PD seem to be looking at this website (going by previous complaints leading to patches like not enough events leading to seasonal events and not being able to back up our saved data being changed). From what I have heard the 24 hour races are epic, and I really wouldn't want to miss them.

I too want to get 100% completion in this game and will most definitely do the Nurbugring 24 hours.
But that wasn't the question, some of you seem to be answering something else.
The question was what's the point of even receiving XP for doing the Nurburgring 24 hour event?
Receiving money and a prize car is all good, but we may as well just receive 0XP

One could say the xp cap is only visual and that actually you are still building xp in the background for a possible increase of the level cap in the future.

Can anyone confirm if you still have to "complete" level 40? Do you get to level 40 and that's it or, do you still have to build xp to "pass" level 40 (ie get to 1xp away from lvl41)?

What really should PD do is let two people do the same race, like you can pick someone on your friends list at the pit and that person can pick up where your left off. And once picked, you can only switch between these 2 drivers, that would make more sense and even more realistic IMO.

a little bit of a thread hijack (since i think the question has been answered by those that actually paid attention to the question), but i've had that idea as well. except with up to 4 players.

obviously, the logistics of it would be near impossible to do because folk have lives and all that... but you and three of your friends team up and take shifts driving, just like in the real races. "you race for these hours, you for these, you for these" etc. and at the end of the race all participants get credit for where you finished as well as receiving the EXP, Money, and Prize Car.
and when you're not racing, you're viewing the race in a mode like in the online lobbies where you can go into spectate mode.

that, Polyphony Digital, is called A Whole 'Nother Level.

Despite some silly comments, the OP has a good point. Why give us XP when it's totally unnecessary?

I've read on a thread that when you get to level 40, it stays as 0 XP.

I actually think a lot of what people seem to complain about in terms of the grind for XP and they why do you do the 24 hr when the XP isn't necessary might be a cultural difference in how video games are viewed.

I played MLB power pros which has one portion that is less baseball and more RPG and there is just a slowness to it, kind of a journey is more important than the destination type thing. Any baseball game that makes you focus on the players dating life and making friends is not something that is really a western style game. It was for sure a shock to me, but I can see that a game like NBA 2k11 has taken cues from that style.

Based on Kaz's comment that he really wanted a free drive mode for GT5 where you just drove your car around I think the point of all of it is that the driving is the thing, not getting to this level or that level but the driving so it would seem the point of a 24 hour endurance race is the achievement, the doing it.

What if the cap is raised to say LVL45, and more events are added, or a whole new series of events? Then you'd be saying the exact opposite. "Thank God I still got EXP for winning the 24h @ Nurb. Ring. . ." Now wouldn't you? Why do people complain about the stupidest stuff possible?

Save during an Endurance Race? What a joke, then they would have to change the whole name of the series, because then it wouldn't be an Endurance Race now would it? If you ask me, we're lucky enough to have the PAUSE feature, even though I think we shouldn't. Get over it, if you don't like it don't play it, period.

"What if?" :D

Then that would be great. As it stands though, there is no point in earning irrelevant XP. So the OP's point stands.

fwiw I loved doing the 24hr races in GT4, all by my self. And so it shall be on GT5 👍

Yeah that's what I think happens.

Also I retract my other statement about it being a visual cap and the game still counting. If PD were to release additional levels and events that require higher levels, they wouldn't want us to unlock everything as soon as we install the DLC. They would want us to work for it like we work for everything else. The XP cap makes perfect sense and the XP from this race will be handy when, or more importantly if, they raise the cap.

Me too, pitch dark in the rain! Gotta love it.

But then the question would be "is EXP awarded retroactively?" Suppose I finish the race and get whatever amount of exp and then they raise the max level. All of a sudden I gotta do it all over again if they didn't keep the exp waiting for the cap increase. If that might be the case, wouldn't it be better to wait until it's raised (if at all) so I can reap the full benefits?

Just food for though.

No need to complain about excess exp though... there's really no need, simple as that. A little extra exp never hurt anyone.

As for not being able to pause for an entire endurance race... no. Real race drivers can switch off with other drivers and we can't so pausing makes up for it. Plus game =/= life so let's not overdo it on the realism. At some point it'll stop becoming fun.

Saving would be better than pausing because no one wants anything to happen to the power to the PS3, saving it would be safer.
Also, electricity bills.

I think the OP's question is an excellent one, I don't think there is ANY point to getting an XP award for the race when you are maxed out already. People seem to think he is questioning the point of the race, when in fact he is questioning the point of the XP award.

And to think, someone at PD had to actually calculate what the XP award "should" be for this race, and set a value for it, without actually realising that it is a pointless award.

Of course, if it is true, as I have heard elsewhere, that you get a LVL 24 gift car ticket for completing all the endurance races, then that alone would make it well worth the effort. There would only be three cars (F2007, F10, and FGT) that you could recieve. If you recieve the FGT (33.3% chance), then this would be the only way to own that car with zero miles on the odometre, brand-spanking new. Very rare, and worth any number of 24 hour races, IMO.

Thank you for understanding :)

I really hope to get an FGT, I already have an F2007 and F10.
