You know, that could be a demo. What I'm saying is, it's possible no one was driving instead, it was the computer showing you how to drive. Just a guess

No way. If it would of been a demo, the AI would of gotten the exact time as the Gold time.

Good God! That video was simply fricking amazing!
I actually found myself laughing at the incredible speeds at which this person was driving and knowing how & when to get the car setup for a specific turn!
(And I definitely mean that in a good way, of course!)

I also have to agree with what was said by 1twojay a few pages ago..in that whoever drove that can definitely drive the 'ring with his eyes closed!

Now, just for clarification, this video is showing a overall lap time of just about 5 minutes & 34(?) some seconds....isn't that quite a bit faster then real life?

I thought I saw on one of these pages a lap time of about 6 minutes - 11 seconds or something? Was that lap time done in a much different car?
Thanks for clarification if someone can let me know!

And just for arguments sake, anyone want to take a guess at how one of the PD F1 cars would do if set out onto the track and was told to beat that time?

I'm sure it would be close but I think with the overall weight of an F1 car being much lighter then say that car in the vid (Sauber?) plus factoring in a higher horsepower to weight ratio, the F1 should come out on top by a few seconds...Thoughts?

No, the demo runs are driven by drivers. The demo runs in GT3 (and hence GT4) were driven by humans, and were always inside the time needed, often quite some margin below it. The GT3 and GT4 AI are not capable of getting close to the gold time.

As far as I know the fastest time on the S license final test so far is 5:30.844 by Flinx.

Just to clarify some points:
I don't know if the new F1 track is included in the ring in GT4, if it isn't, where are the pits?
The Nordschleife has been modified since Stefan Bellof's record to be more safe and it has been shortened, so the times are different.
Being able to get that below a 6 min lap is quite impossible in real life, just too bloody fast for anyone. I've done 8 min in a friend's car and the speed is insane, the track seems so smaller, a 6 min in reality is just overwhelming.

When I get my hands on GT4, 24 hours will be dedicated to driving the ring and it'll be in a row.

It's important to know how you get your laptime.
During the real 24h the cars pass thru the new circuit, so the times are around 9 minutes if I remember right (we're talking about M3 GTR, GT3 race cars and similar).
Official tests are done around the old circuit but not stoppind at the paddock, so the straight in front of them take some time but you arrive to the first bridge at full speed. It seems the times in this way are a bit lower than the btb times.
BTB means bridge to bridge, from the first bridge after entering the circuir form the paddock to the last one before coming out.
A good road going car can go under 8 minutes (GT3 for example, EVOs etc).

That vid is very impressive, that car is going to be 150% hardcore uncontrollable with the aids turned off. Awesome... :dopey:

Sorry to contradict you, but nowhere would a Porsche 956 (or a 962 for that matter) be faster than a Sauber C9. This Mercedes was the fastest car on the 89 Sportscar Championship, beating cars like the Jaguar XJR-9 and XJR-12, Porsche 962C, Nissan R89C, etecetera...

To have a car going really low 5 minute laps on real life would be almost impossible, even for a current F1, as the car would get airborne a lot of times if going full throatle (let me see: Flugpatz, Schwedenkreuz, Fuchsrorhe, Kesselchen, Hohe Acht and the at Plantzgarten Eins und Zwei)...

Yes, well, whatever you say, the 956/962 is still the winningest Group-C car. Besides, the C9 ran after the 956/962's glory years, so I was already wrong on that from the get-go. And if you want to go with fast cars, well, nothing could touch the 905 EVO1Bis of '92

It's much faster, yes, but keep in mind it's still a game... that watermelon inside your head doesn't react to danger/fear on a tv screen as it would on the real track. :p

24HR would be a joke. If B-spec could be incorporated, it would be much more fun.
Anyone know if there are any Porsche 962's under a different name?

...LOL true that.

So I got to wonder how fast the PD testers are. I'm sure we'll meet them online too.

Is there still no word on who drove in that vid?

You're wrong ;) The Peugeot 905 Evo 2 (the one that was not raced, just tested) was actually even faster (faster than a F1 of 1992 at certain tracks :scared: )

Going back to the topic, the guy that drove that laptime was not only a very good driver but also knew really well the place (a GPL driver maybe :dopey: ) and from the knowledge I have from it (seen lots of videos, driven many laps at GPL (negative with all 7 cars) and with a pb of 8m04 in the Lotus), the circuit is really pretty accurate. Shame the physics are off by a big margin (300 km/h double right-hander after Flugpltaz? Yeah right....), at least at that video.
Let's see if someone can post a replay with sim physics, a wheel and no aids on...

no, u cant save the game in the middle of the race
D'OH! :ouch:
B-Spec here I come...

I'll probably do at least one of the 24h races myself, but I'll leave at least one of them to B-Spec.

Major oversight.

P.S. You can still save championship progress, right? Like in GT3? I saw a "session result" screen in the translations thread and it didn't include a save option except for the replay :nervous:

 at the video and jax' setup.

All I can say is "WOW."

GTXLR
Driving assist are always on for tests.
Noooo! Say it ain't so! Damn you, Polyphony. I couldn't stand doing the Time Trials in GT3 because the aids are such a killjoy, but at least they let you run without them in the license tests.

And yes, in most cars I'm faster without TCS/ASM.

If this is true it's a big blow. :( I was really looking forward to all the license tests in GT4.

if your going to do a full 24 hour race and want to keep it real you rotate 3 drivers like every 2-4 hours or every time you pit. it might also help to have one of theise

http://www.dubspeedracing.com/forums/showthread.php?p=35787#post35787 I built it my self :sly:

Nice!
I can definitely say that when I get the game & start racing some of these long endurance races, I'm going to really thank myself for having one of these as it's going to make the whole experience just so real! 👍

Some people in this thread who continuously moan about 24hours and no BSpec mode need a slap.. Hyde has already said he slipped it into BSpec mode.. it's blatantly obvious you can do that, please realise this :P

Man I can't wait to run the full 24 hours on my own with no assists from Bspec :)

Hyde, does the game save any replay data during the race??? I'm wondering if we can save the full 24 hour race to a memory card.
Maybe I missed it but i've read through the thread twice and I havent seen anything about going from day to night and back.

Hey is it certain that you cant save in the middle of the 24hr race. That cant be correct. Thats quite a streach in front of the TV.

Oh, and awesome vid.

24h replay file would be huge... I don't know why you'd want to watch the whole thing either (if only you could skip between laps...).

that u can do, u can also leave the championship and go back out into GT Resort and do oil change now, then go back in and continue the race

I have a friend who left his PS2 on for a month because he didn't have a memory card. Doesn't hurt it at all.

My god that video was amazing.

Also, I don't think there was any driver assist. That light comes on to notify you that the tires are slipping, whether you have TCS on or off, from what I heard.

Again, that was probably the coolest video game video I have ever seen. I need to import this game pronto.

^^^ keep the machine cool and your right, it will be fine. But theres that slight chance something in the machine could fail, even its fan so i think its gonna be a cautious ride for anyone with the first batch ps2's. Mine died likeafew weeks back, got it on first release, well it didnt die it still works but it doesnt work consistently, so i got a thin one.

That video was amazing. That person has serious reflexes. Did you notice when he hit top speed on the straight, the ride looked soooo bumpy and the car looked like it was a handful. I would bet that if that had TCS and ASM on, without it that car would have lost it on the main stright if not on the masses of corners before. CHAMPION driver.

Sweet. Can you leave the championship, do a different race, and come back to it later?

If assists are turned off, the light is off. The light flashes when the assist is working, and is constant when it's on, but not doing anything.
