Nurburgring Race Series - Warm up Week.

Hello all and welcome to the Warm up week of the Nurburgring Race Series! (NRS)​

I would like to introduce this week as a bit of fun, and a chance for people to get used to the format of how things will run.

So first of all a little bit about times and dates :​

This post is for car choices to be made available to you - ITS NOT THE START OF THE RACE ITSELF!.​

You have TWO days to go away and evaluate the cars on offer below and decide which you would like to vote for to drive this week

Remember your not voting for which you think is the fastest/best/quickest laptime etc, your voting for which you would like to drive the most!!

I need everyone to nominate 3 cars in order of preference :

ie choice 1 most favourite down to choice 3 - 3rd favourite. You must do this by PM to me no later than 11pm GMT+1 on sunday 2nd October (this sunday).

Each car will receive points in the following way - your first choice = 3 points - second choice = 2 points - 3 rd choice = 1 point.


I will add up the points for each car as they come in to me and either late sunday or early monday i will post the results of the vote and the winning car! I will also post details of that cars specific tuning allowed so there should be no confusion.


So how are the cars choices decided by me? Well i am testing a lot of cars for each week. A specific bracket of power applies to each week - for this warm up its 0-100BHP week 1 is 100-150BHP - week 2 151-200BHP and so on...

I have looked for cars which have a good balance of power and handling - as the Nurburgring will favour cars with great balance outright power is not everything!

Some cars picked may look slow on paper but prove during testing to be mighty competitive and hence their inclusion. However i have also tried to include a variety of drivetrains and cars from differing Era's so dont be surprised to see some oldies in there!

I hope that you all have a go and have fun! This week may seem like the cars are very slow to some people - trust me it only gets faster from here!!

This should be a good way to learn racing lines and braking points etc in a calm contolled way before we move upto the big stuff in the weeks to come.​

Onto the car choices.....

The Mini One.
Bang upto date FF hatch.
Power to weight ratio of 78.2 BHP PER TON
The basic mini chassis is a real gem and its shows even in the base model considering the relative low power!

The Suzuki Cappucino 95'
Fun to drive FR 2 seater
Power to weight ratio of 90 BHP PER TON
The Suzuki proves that low power need not equal low fun, adjustable rear wheel drive and great engine!

The Triumph Spitfire 74'
Power to Weight ratio of 87.8 BHP PER TON
Considering its age this FR Spitfire is a lot of fun round the Ring!

The Honda Civic 1500 83'
A low weight FF from back in the 80's
Power to weight ratio of 106.4 BHP PER TON
Surprisingly good little car - could be the grandaddy of the Modern day Type R!!​

The Honda Beat (92' Verson F)
MR handling and balance!
Power to weight of 78.9 BHP PER TON
With its high revving motor and MR balance this Honda is a lot of fun!!​

Just a final few words, please be patient with the format of my Threads! Its all new to me and a miracle the photos have appeared one there (thanks Natalya 👍 ) and although this post is slightly early its because i just finsihed work at 10pm, its now 11.35 pm and i have to be back at work for 6am and thus wont have time in the morning!

So let me know of any problems which i will correct!

Thats a very good point, and something i will post the info for in future weeks, all of these should be available to pick up in the various second hand car lots, and the Spitfire can be bought at the Triumph dealers im sure 👍

The Honda Civic 1500 83'
A low weight FF from back in the 80's
Power to weight ratio of 106.4 BHP PER TON

Under the picture you state that it's the Honda Civic 1500 3door 25i '83, but if I'm not mistaken the car in the picture is a Honda Civic 1500 3door CX '79...

Is this indeed a mix-up due to the fact that you were fatigued or is it something else... (I'm using a PAL version, is there maybe a difference between versions?)

Your right! Sorry folks the one in the picture i posted is correct, the description was wrong, and yes was due to fatigue reading the wrong car off my list

It may be that the occasional race is arcade but mostly Gt mode, if you remember i talked about tuning suspension and various parts, we can only do that in GT mode 👍

Sorry didnt manage to reply til now.....cars are stock for evaluating against each other, all these cars laptimes were similar. When the winner is announced we may have to change some parts from stock but not much this week.

Hello all, the votes are in and we have a winner!

It was a close call between new and old for this first week...

In 3rd place with 22 points
The Honda Civic 1500 79'

In second place with 24 points
The Mini One

But in first place with 28 points
The Triumph Spitfire 1500 74' 👍

Thanks to all 17 of you who voted for this 1st round, details of this weeks specific set up options are below:
N2 Tyres - these may show in your tuning screen as comfort or (on the PAL version at least) Luxury

Oil Change

Total 79BHP - 97.65 bhp/ton

No weight reduction this week - and no furthur tuning allowed.(This includes items such as NOS)

Rumble strips and concrete sections are part of the track

Standard OLR two wheels on track at all times

No shortcuts, No wall or barrier touching, and no cheating!

Only T times to be discussed during week - No discussion of final lap times.

Above all have fun and submit your final times

As there are 11 "T" times on this track i think it best if we tried to keep to just a few of them, i propose these:

T2 - Just after "Aremberg"

T4 - Just after "Wehrseifen" on the run down to "Breidscheid"

T7 - Slightly before "Hohe Acht"

T10 - At start of Dottingher Hohe" (Long back straight)

For anyone who needs a good map with corner names 👍

1st place = 20 points

DAVE!!! You've exceeded your PM storage limit, so i'll paste my message below:

Okay, I have 2 leaderboards that you can use, but both are excel based, so you'll need some familiarity with that (so you don't delete formatting you can't put back or erroneously delete a formula).

The first is the WRS spreadsheet, which is very complex, but mostly self-automated. The second is a reduced version of this ... essentially a sheet for tracking weekly results and then a finalized leaderboard. For my AMC I actually opted for this second method, even though it's 100% hand manipulated ... it takes longer, but for an 8 week series I didn't need the complexity of the WRS version and it does the trick just fine (if you end up with 20 or more racers though, the automated version would be better).

After completing the forms I do a screen shot (alt+print screen) or print to pdf, then import into photoshop for cropping and converting to a web safe format (.png is good).

If this sounds doable and attractive to you, I can email both versions (I'll need an address )
