Nurburgring Race Series - Week 1! (With Voting Results)

Welcome all, week 1 of the NRS is here!

Following the fun and overall success of the warm up, this week we are looking at cars within the 100-150BHP range. This opens up some interesting cars with the FF "Hot Hatches" being most common.

Your five choices for this week are listed below, remember no discussing your voting on this thread, I require your 3 choices (Number one being your most favourite) by PM no later than 9PM GMT+1 on Sunday 16th.

Remember your not voting for which car you think is the best or fastest, your voting for the ones YOU would like to have a go at this week, they have been chosen for their ability in standard form, but which will respond best to some changes and tuning? The choice is yours!

Onto the cars....

VW Lupo GTI - 126.1 BHP/TON
Surprisingly good FF hatch, usable 6 speed transmission and good grip
Not to be underestimated!

Toyota Corolla Levin GT apex 83' - 128.7 BHP/TON
Classic FR, feels like a hooligans car to drive but posts some very respectable times, has good usable powerband and a great 5 speed transmission that lets you use all 5 speeds, more than the sum of its parts!

Representing the Classic cars is the Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto 66' - 113.5 BHP/TON
Feels like a faster, smoother version of the spitfire - deeply impressive for its age and you also get a cool driver with Classic silver crash hat and leather driving gloves 👍

Peugeot 106 S16 (GTI) - 120.8 BHP/TON
Peugeot have been renowned for the genuis of their FF hatches for many years, the 106 GTI is no exception, Fantastic engine, chassis and box combine to present a car that can challenge much more exotic machinery.

Mazda MX-5 Roadster NRA 04' - 117.1BHP/TON
Bringing us upto date with an excellent FR car, the MX5 impresses with its excellent handling and balance and does not appear to be hampered by its 100kg weight disadvantage over some of the others here!​

Feel free to test drive over the next couple of days, for evaluation purposes the cars were tested standard with N2s all round, however we will be changing components this week on the winning car

The results will be posted along with detailed set up options Sunday 16th approx 10PM GMT+1

Hello all, voting is over and we have a winner!

In 3rd place with 17 points : Toyota Corolla Levin GT Apex...

In 2nd place with 26 points: The VW Lupo GTI...

But in 1st place with 28 points, the car we will be driving this week:​

stage 1 weight reduction
Sports suspension

All parts to be purhcased from MAZDASPEED within Mazda dealership.

Car should read following specs :

149 BHP in your tuning and garage screens
139 BHP in your replay screen for some reason (i would like feedback on this for consistency across the board)

1018KGS Weight

NO OTHER TUNING OR PARTS OR WEIGHT REDUCTION ARE ALLOWED
(Wheel changes are ok)

Please make sure you are running the correct spec with N2 tyres.

This week we are running Sports suspension, with the ability to change ride height, damper settings and camber angles we are looking this week for the optimum setting to get the best out of this MX-5. If you post settings for suspension please state why and what effects you found your settings had on the car 👍 This should enable those who are unsure to get a basic understanding of sports suspension instead of just guess work going on

NO FINAL LAPTIME DISCUSSION - T times only to be discussed, as in the warm-up we will use T2, T4, T7 and T10 as references for Bart's (Onlyme) leaderboard to work 👍

Submit your best laptime to me by PM no later than 9PM GMT+1 23.10.05
The submission of replays is highly encouraged 👍

Practice session? You mean the Warm up week?

Also, I've got an idea...

I'm not a big fan of trucks and SUV's, but I'd vote for a pickup truck option when we get into the right power range. I'd just like a good excuse to drive a pickup on Nurb, b/c without a good reason, I would never do it.

Who else would like to drive a truck?

Soyfu, I'm with you there 100% ... I never drive the trucks ... ever ... so an all truck line up one week would be kinda novel and the perfect chance to do something I'd never do of my own accord 👍

thanks to everyone thats voted already 👍

Just wanted to answer the points raised above about the MR option/pick up option.

Im sure you can all understand the difficulty of bringing a series like this together, wanting to please everyone is top of the list 👍 , you have to try to gauge interest whilst making the series long enough to enjoy but short enough not to drag on forever, its a balancing act and as such some cars have to be omitted.

I would ask that no one worries about a lack of MR option this week, it will all become clear next week and onwards (MR can be tricky to start out with also), without wanting to spoil things there is going to be a special week for cars with extremely low weight and good power, this includes the Elise's, Speedster's, Fireblade and GSXR-4 for example......I dont want to spoil the surprises but also want people to know that *most* cars should be covered so please be patient 👍

Regarding the truck option. I think if i put a truck against a comparable car its gonna get its ass kicked round the ring BIG style! However being as flexible as i am i can see an idea for an SUV week maybe if enough are interested, let me know 👍

I have added you to my list of drivers, below is basic details of how this series works, if you need any more info just ask

Each fri i post the following weeks choice of 5 cars.

You then have two days to choose 3 in order of preference, you PM me those cars.

You have two days to vote (fri9pm GMT+1 - Sun 9pm GMT+1)

I announce the winning car each sunday evening and specific tuning at about 10PM GMT+1

You then have sun-sun racing and submit your best time to me anytime during the week using PM 👍

You can discuss T sector times but not final laptimes.

So all you need to do now is take a look at the 5 cars above and PM me your top 3 in order of preference then keep your eyes out for the results here on sunday evening

Took her out for a first, cautious lap around the ring, just to see how she handles. It sure is quiet a difference to last weeks car 👍

First (slow) splits, just so you guys got something to have a go at

T2: 1'39.813
T4: 3'19.594
T7: 5'52.718
T10: 8'06.597

That's with no changes whatsoever to the suspension. I don't have a lot of knowledge about setup's and tuning, so I'm looking forward to those explenations Oh, I left the aids on as well

In the voting results area (I think) you noted the difference between garage HP and replay HP. I think we've all noticed that. I've not ever looked for or seen an explanation. It seems that it may be HP without the "boost" of an oil change....I believe I noticed once upon a time that the garage HP was reduced due to mileage but the eplat HP was not. Before I let the Mazda rip the Nurb I'll try the all the added parts (without an oil change) and see what garage and replay HPs indicate. Although thinking about it I believe the same phenomenom occurs in arcade mode...different HP in settings area vs. replay. If that is true then it shoots my theory down...no oil change in arcade mode.
