Lordy, I have to work too hard at this! :grumpy: :p

Okay, new splits:
T1: 56.439
T2: 1'40.835
T3: 2'15.868
T4: 3'19.962
T5: 4'09.033
T6: 4'46.839
T7: 5'50.997
T8: 6'43.888
T9: 7'11.803
T10: 8'05.536

*sighs*

I can see that even by T2 I'm down a few seconds :( I have had a 1'39 several times, but 1'38? 1'37? I've got some work to do here!

Conversely, by T4 the gap is the same, so I'm taking this okay and even by T7 I lose only another second (?) ... so clearly my weakest stage is actually ... the bloody beginning 🤬

I think I'll watch some replays from the warm up to see what the lines should be.

Good times coming in there Nat and Kel 👍

Nat the run down to T1 and T2 is quite tricky and probably my main problem also, i may get a really good T1 and then brake too late for Aremburg and find my T2 is down again, even the first corner after the start/finish can gain/lose a lot of time, if it helps heres what i do....

After start line keep over to right and brake when gear indicator flashes down to 2nd and clip the apex, use as much track as possible and keep flat out into 3 and 4th, take the long sweeping right with a gentle steering movement no need to lift, when the gear flashes for the upcoming left right complex brake down to 3rd and turn into the left, quick blip of the throttle and brake again for the right, keep one nice steering angle round to the right and stay in 3rd for the next left right left complex. The first left - right i take flat and just ease off maybe a touch of brake for the left that follows to avoid going onto the grass.

Short run in 3rd down to the right hander that leads into the straight, this right hander is tricky, get over to the left and turn in not too early, try and clip the rumbles and be gentle on throttle to get good exit speed, when on the straight hold 3rd to redline into 4th for a T1 of about 54.5 - 55.0, come over to right going over bridge and let the car come back over to the left for Flugplatz, dont turn in too early, no need to lift i find, just turn in and aim to get near the first apex but not touch it, car will drift over to left dont lift as with camber it comes back over to the right and clip the 2nd apex.....

Hold 4th coming out of flugplatz to redline and into 5th, as you go over crest and gear indicator flashes, i ease off just a touch for the long left, you need to experiment with line here as if you brake at wrong point its all over, dont go too close to the apex and stay nice and smooth, brake early for Aremburg as its tricky to get right, too slow and yout T time suffers and too fast you lose time drifting wide or oversteering, T2 best for me was 1'36.6xx but mostly 1'37s.

Hope this helps :)

Week 2 cars posted tonight, would have been now but i got called into work for a 12 hr shift :grumpy:

keep it up everyone 👍 :)

Hopefully all is good "Dave."

I will be around for this series as a whole but my participation will be selective. There is no doubt in my mind that a race "for me" will come up eventually. 👍

So for the mean time...
Everyone, have a ball with the race.
Good luck and (if you would allow me to say it) Godspeed to you all. ;)

Course alls good mate :)

Would be nice to see you voting and driving if you get the time, as you say a week "for you" will surely come up 👍

Dave

Thanks for the walk through Dave ... I've seen some T1's of mid 55's, but I suspect I've lost a second even by this stage so I need to gain a little time on each corner. Likewise, flugplatz I'm lifting slightly ... no braking and hardly for a moment ... but with the long straight involvd here I guess it all adds up. I'll need to experiment with this a little.

Oh, and needless to say, I *never* know how to approach or take the corner before T2.

I've downloaded that pdf walkthrough, so maybe that'll help.

GHreat series Dave 👍

Ooohh, I can feel the hot breath of lotus350 at the back of my neck. I'll need to give this a final try somewhere this weekend :)

@ Nat, the pdf is a real nice detailed walkthrough. I still look at it from time to time and it has helped me much. About Flugplatz, it's like it sais in the pdf, it separates the men from the boys (or the women from the girls ;)) Just go for it with the MX5! When you take the right line, there's no need to lift off the throttle, and you won't loose any time due to sliding :)

Board updated

As for me, I'm off to the musical-rehearsal :)

PS: We haven't seen splits from Veil yet... :nervous: I'm getting scared

Did a few laps but still a few weeks behind you lot

T2 1:42.3
T4 3:24.0
T7 6.00.3
T10 8:16.6

So made a nice improvement but still a few wrong entries into corners, and some strange braking points i have done.

Does a controller have a real disadvantage over the wheel racers? or am i just really bad

Love driving this MX-5 round here though, very nice combination 👍

@Goody, I'm using the controller for this one.

I'm using the DS2 also Goody, keep it up 👍

Gonna get back on this tonight, see if I can overtake OnlyMe :trouble:

Thanks Nat always good to hear people are enjoying it 👍

T1 of mid 55 not too bad at all! I would suspect is Aremburg that your losing time at maybe?? Best to approach just off centre of track so not too close to grass and brake early, have a look at the shape of the corner on the pdf file and you begin to learn how to attack it better. With the flugplatz just try different lines until theres no need for a lift!

I dont own a wheel either Goody, i use all analog controller 👍

Bart i think Lotus got left off the leaderboard mate if you get a minute :)

cheers

Dave, I see Lotus on the board ... ?

Yes its on there now, i was seeing a different page for a while there..... 👍

Ok i shall submit a time. When does this first round finish again?

hehehe don´t worry, i will be posting some splits today overnight. ;)

The car seems very nice to drive, from what i remember of past combos. :sly:

My first session doesn't look that good, though the combo is really addictive.
20 starts, 6 reached T2 (1'41 or 1'42), 2 reached T4, 1 T6 and none was clean until the finish line.
I guess my result will be 'DNF' this week.

N tyres and 2 wheels on track shouldn't be part of the rules at the same time :(

Some new splits for me:

T1: 0'54.526
T2: 1'37.123
T3: 2'11.883
T4: 3'14.583
T5: 4'04.037
T6: 4'41.860
T7: 5'44.965
T8: 6'35.356
T9: 7'02.429
T10: 7'54.429
T11: 8'26.268

This time I bit the bullet and ran huge camber on the front, it seemed to work quite well as the car tended to turn in much better, without the hairy oversteer. 👍

Settings:
117/117
3/3
3.0/1.5

Later 👍

Geez, I'm so surprised our times are so close together...truly shocking...I noticed your splits today while surfin' the planet but didn't commit them to memory. Ran my laps (6 complete ones +/-) and finally got something clean and that felt relatively competitive and decided to take a break. When you submit your final time might as well add a second or two and submit for me too :dopey:.

I'm probably not going to run too many more laps but since I'm this close to ya I may as well see if I can top the times you've got posted. I know you'll improve on 'em.

T1: 55.703
T2: 1'39.137
T3: 2'15.250
T4: 3'19.470
T5: 4'10.296
T6: 4'48.497
T7: 5'52.182
T8: 6'44.363
T9: 7'12.808
T10: 8'06.475
T11: 8'38.646

I was actually ahead of you for a little awhile :p !

Man, you and I need to start racing online together ... we're pretty evenly matched and it would create some veeeerrrryyy interesting times.

@Curtis ... I see you reading this thread!!! Get your bum in here and run some laps!

Hi Flat_out, N tyres really arent that bad if you just understand that they overload much quicker and as such you need to remember how much longer your braking distance will be with them fitted.

Actually fitting the S tyres to this car makes it feel a bit synthetic and unrealistic, sure you have loads of grip but nowhere near enough power to get to the tyres limits, which is why we are on Ns this week 👍 Hopefully your result wont be "DNF" and you can work on where your struggling!

Note to everyone, just a thought but can we try to avoid posting T11 times? I know it doesnt make *that* much difference but its just a bit close to the finish, at least using T10 it doesnt give away you terminal speed down the back straight and that gives us 2 sectors to "guess" about before your final time 👍

cheers all

Dave

My lap i think was dirty after much scrutinizing, so leaving it at new T10 of 7'54.548, think you got me geeteye....(Bart can you update me please) 👍

I *HAVE* to spend some time on my elec engineering homework or im for it on monday, so no more laps for me, i was finding it hard to string a clean lap together anyway, lets see how it all ends up tomorrow!

regards

Dave

Updated your time, Dave.

Going for some last laps on this combo myself now. Will be testing the new cars tomorrow.

I thought I could do better...apparently cannot...submitting my time...and moving on.

This was a fun drive though. The car is forgiving in that you can save it even if gets way out of shape. In real life I would never go 100mph except in a straight line. This baby and drifts around corners at over 100 and might wiggle and you can actually save it....most cars in the game just keep on going around.

I think I'll join. I think I have this straight: run the selected car (MX-5 in this case) with the listed mods, which can be adjusted completely, and submit one hotlap and some suggested cars for next week?

Hi Ebiggs, yes thats right set up the Mx5 as in post no 2 of this thread, there is a seperate thread for week 2 with car choices for next week, reply to me by PM only, no discussing on the thread which cars you want! welcome to the NRS mate 👍

I am SO done with this combo :grumpy:

Dave, I ran better and faster T1 & T2 splits - so thanks for your advice - I could see a couple of corners where I needed to push harder and faster, including the right hander after T1 ... finally managed to hold on to her after numerous failed attempts!!!

MUCH happier with my T2, but ultimately I would lose it elsewhere on the track or my ghost would eventually catch up with me. In the end, the combo failed to be fun, so that's probably the time to quit!

Learned a lot, so thanks for that 👍 so maybe over the weeks I'll learn a little more each time and finally start getting it right.

For now ... time submitted!

Im completely done for this week. Did my lap after 2 hours, im sure no further 0.3 i can improve.

T2 - 1'35.850

T4 - 3'11.762

T7 - 5'38.643

T10 - 7'45.130

Good luck to all ya. ;)

3:30 AM.

I finally made it. It's clean, it's sub 8 minutes at T10, it's not my best run but I have to go with it.

I really enjoyed this first week, despite the enormous frustration of not being able to get a clean lap for so long. I learnt the track a lot better than I used to and I shaved 30+ seconds from the beginning of the week. So, it was worth it, overall.

I will be back with my splits and my settings in a few minutes...

EDIT: Here are my splits:

T2: 1'37.529
T4: 3'16.752
T7: 5'48.471
T10: 7'59.421

Settings:

112/112
5/5
0/0

Aids: None

I had a couple of runs 2-3 seconds faster, but they were dirty...

Time submitted.

The Wizard.

No more for me, my time was done with 160km only.

Tryed some more, but too frustrating :p.

Submitting

I can get a T1 of 44.9xxx. After that it all goes downhill...

ack... well that was unexpected torture.
I guess i'm just not masochistic enough to get pleasure out of N2 tires.
N3's are fine... but N1 and N2 just don't really have any business being on a race track.

so, for the first time in my 5 year or so OLR career, i'm submitting my first clean lap and calling it a day.

splits:
T1 54.708
T2 1'37.394
T3 2'12.666
T4 3'15.705
T5 4'05.055
T6 4'42.841
T7 5'46.136
T8 6'38.692
T9 7'06.280
T10 7'58.837
T11 8.30.015

wish i could say it was fun... see ya next week.

Auf Wiedersehen

I think N2s represented this week the average Mx-5 which might be slightly tuned with a sports suspension system and taken to a race track on standard tyres, N3s are getting on for a track day tyre and at this power level i didnt think they were quite necessary, i wanted to convey the need to learn braking points and corner lines right from a standard car all the way up to the high power machines as the weeks go by, im sorry you didnt have fun as this is meant to be fun, i too found it frustrating this week but only because i am having to re-evaluate my driving style and braking ability using the tyres on offer, i for one have learnt loads over the past two weeks 👍

Dave
