Very good game. Favourite 360 game so far. Big, expansive, lots to do, intelligent gameplay (in that it's logical and never infuriates), very pretty. Good sound and lighting. Only thing that lets the graphics down are the dodgy body models and the fish-eye lens effect (though not as bad as it is in Quake 4). Voices sometimes don't match the face and many sound too similar but not really complaining.
It has huge replayability. Currently playing as a thief but I think I'll be a Mage or an Orc Warrior next!

As most know there's a Elder Scrolls site - www.elderscrolls.com.
The forums have a lot of info and due to the game being so expansive and open-ended a lot of the info is invaluable.
Anyway, anyone finished the Dark Brotherhood quests yet?

I've not even started the Dark Brotherhood yet. I finished the mages guild last night and will try and finish the fighters guild next.

There's a duplicate bug in Oblivion. Very easy to do too. However, as with all cheats it can ruin the game. Still, makes life easier finding Grand Soul Gems etc.... Just use it sparingly.

All said and done I gotta say this game is pretty buggy(quest to cure myself of Vampirism has a bug), but still great. I dont have a desire to do side missions besides the guilds..

115 hours or so with 75 saves.

My brother was disappointed with the game. I know it's a game for it's story and everything, but he didn't expect the graphics to be as bad as they are. Things are fine close up, but everything is blurred in the distance and there is some pretty noticable pop-up of trees and buildings. But as I said, it's a game for its very long gameplay and huge envornments. :)

A shame really. It just doesn't really seem like my type of game.

I have a bad news.

My xbox is defect & have eaten my disk. I only have the game for a week & doesn't want to exchange my game. I called microsoft to repair my machine & told that the machine have eaten my disk(Actually the 360 make weird sound & you can hear the disk rub inside the tray). They only have PDZ & Kameo for the recovery. I said "Hell you, what the heck will I do with those games, lol". I live in Canada & the game cost 80$. I don't have money problem. Though 80$ with only having the game for a week is frustrating for sure!

ouch... Mr Deep. Do you own a nice PC? get the better pc version if you can run it ,and you save a little money.

And GT thats because if you could remove the blurry distant land and stop the pop in the frame rate would lag out doors. You cant tweak the GFX like in the PC version

I love my 360, lol!

I've had it with this game and have come to the conclusion that Bethesda either doesn't know how to code properly, or the 360 is junk....here's my story.

I cancelled my pre-order for the launch of XBOX 360 when I found out that Oblivion had been delayed as that was my only reason for purchasing this particular console. I've got a very decent PC, but based on many posts at GameFaqs, I came to the conclusion that I most likely needed a better graphics card before attempting this.

My wife and daughters surprised me on my birthday, April 5, with an XBOX 360 and Oblivion. I was very happy for about 3 hours, and then I started getting the increasingly popular:
”This disc is unreadable
1. Clean the disc with a soft cloth.
2. Restart the console”
message----repeatedly---- sometimes in the middle of an intense fight, sometimes while trying to initiate a conversation with an NPC, and sometimes by simply turning around. I had many game saves but I continued chugging along until I got to about 20 hours of gameplay, when I simply could not continue.

Based on information gleaned from reading through GameFaqs and other forums, I checked for scratches on the disc, and sure enough, I found some (and before you ask, I know better than to move the XBOX 360 when the disc is spinning, and I had it set up horizontally). I also deleted many game saves, leaving one made in the initial sewers, and the three most recent saves on the hard drive. I also tried to clear the hard drive cache based on the instructions outlined in the sticky on The Elder Scrolls Forum. What happened next was what finished this frustrating experience for me.

The game would boot up normally through the Bethesda Logo, the 2K Logo, the second Bethesda Software Logo, and the copyright 'wall of text' screen, but then it would go black for a few seconds while the music started. The next thing that happened is that this garbled mess of colors would appear, sometimes all horizontal lines, sometimes a sort of checker board pattern, and sometimes a screenful of what appeared to be PIP images of 'something'.

I would eventually get to the screen where I could chose to either continue, load, etc., but the left side of the view area contained the remnants of the aforementioned garbled screen color pattern. If I chose to continue, I immediately realized that this was not the last save that I had actually made. It became apparent that new save files that I created were added to the bottom of the list of saves, below save number 4 which was only about 1.5 hours into the game.

I deleted ALL of the saves except the one that I was playing and save number 4, and subsequent saves were still created below save number 4. I called 1-800-4MY-XBOX, thoroughly explained what I wrote above, and the 'helpful' representative simply told me to get a new copy of the game.

I returned the XBOX 360 and the game to BestBuy while both were still intact (the wireless controller makes for a very tempting boomerang!), and you can feel free to call me any applicable derogatory term because I should have learned my lesson when it took me about 8 months to finish Morrowind because of similar, but not near as fatal, DDE problems.

This is a very interesting and great looking game, and during the short time that I experienced it on the XBOX 360, it looked MUCH better than the screenshots posted above.

I've got a Dell XPS GEN 3, 3.4 GHz, 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM at 533Mhz, which exceeds the minimum requirements, but the graphics card is only an ATI Radeon X800 SE, which most likely needs to be replaced. I refuse to waste any more time or money on this fiasco.

You don't need a stellar graphics card, just turn the graphic settings down.

And your problems are the reason I don't own a 360 yet and why I won't be owning a PS3 either. There are way to many issues at launch time.

I was thinking about renting this game but I am not sure if is something I would like. I dont like the Final Fantasy RPG games but I do love games like Gauntlet Dark Legacy. What category is this closer to?

I have it on PC and it's absolutely amazing. I was never into RPGs before but I love this. It's not like final Fantasy because the combat is real time and there's no long cut scenes or stuff like that.

Oblivion is a 1st/3rd person action RPG. I don't like RPG's either, but I'm 13 hours into Oblivion and I really like it. 👍

I've had it for a while now, I'm at level 15 at the moment. The interesting thing is that the game presents you with more powerful enemies as you level up. When you get to about level 13 you start to encounter Minotaurs in th forests rather than bears etc.

By the way, if you've got a PC that's capable of playing it on pretty high settings, I would recommend getting it on PC rather than 360 because it's easier to play with a mouse and there's loads of free downloadable content and mods 👍

Sounds like a problem with the 360 more than the game but still I know from experiance the game has flaws.
Before the recent patch it had a tendancy to crash whilst exiting buildings. Now it tends to crash when free roaming the countryside. My character has Speed at 110 and runs like the wind. However the game can't cope. As it loads and then loads again as you run about the game "gives up" and crashes. Not always mind. Every 5 hours or so. But regardles, it's a pain.
I don't play it too often now. But for three months I was on it all the time, flaws and all! It is a good game, but it could easily be better made, if nothing else.

Thanks for the replies everyone. It sounds like a game to check out for sure. I do have a PC powerful enough to run Oblivion but if I play games on the 360 I get the achievements and it increases my gamerscore. :sly: 👍
If I can get a game on the 360 and on the PC I will probably get it for the 360 from now on even though the graphics wont be as good. I just love those achievement and gamerscore points on the 360. :dopey:

anyone still play. Finally gave in and hired it out.Actually really like it even thought the only non car games i like are the metal gear solid series and fable. Even if you think you will hate this game like nothing else id have to say give it a try atleast as chances are you will be pleasently suprised...

I watched my girlfriend play this game on and off for a few hours and it just didnt look enjoyable. Even she finally said she was sick of walking around and we took it back. The graphics looked good but who really wants to walk around that much? :dunce:

You need to be on SLI or Crossfire to be able to run it better than the XBOX 360. Unless you put bloom to compensate for performance.

Have you ever played FFXI? This is the game to run around. Unlike Oblivion, you cannot port everywhere you want using the map. Running between cities, it take at least 45min.

I do not like the Final Fantasy style games. I personally just dont like role playing games at all. I dont like entering a battle then just sit there while my guy flies across the screen then deducts 100 points. Then waits while he looses 100 points. Thats just not fun to me at all. I want to fight not watch the game fight. Thats the reason I quit playing KOTOR after about a day or two. Those are great games just not the kind I like. I am no into RPG style gameplay. At least with Oblivion you could actually fight. Beautiful game but still way too much running around.

^How^Once you join a couple of the guilds its more fun. At first it feels like 'Oh no what have i got myself into here' but once you get out of the dungeon crap and actually get going it's not half bad.

If you think this game is boring, chance are you didn't enter any of the Oblivion Gates. That's when "It's on like Donkey Kong"👍

You don't have to run around at all, you can 'teleport' using the map.

I only saw her playing but I dont think she knew she could 'teleport' using the map. Might have to try it again because if you could teleport like you said it would make the game a lot better. She just got sick of walking everywhere and I got sick of watching her walk everywhere. Plus she wasnt sure what to do most of the time while she was walking.
