Which of these track would be much better if F1 were to leave Suzuka? I like Okayama alot...t:gtpflag:

F1 was at Okayama in 1994-1995 for a Pacific GP when the track was called Aida. Though I think Motegi would probably be better suited.

As @GTPorsche said, but I like Sugo the best. Discovered it watching World Superbikes and then after that in F355 Ferrari Challenge on the Dreamcast. It's my favourite track in Japan my miles and miles.

From purely a fanboy standpoint, I'd have to pick Sugo. found it through watch JGTC. There's something about it that I really like...

Side question...why would F1 leave Suzuka? Suzuka is great, no?

It's purely hypothetical...

The only other track in Japan that is FIA Grade 1 is Fuji, so that's the only proper answer to the question.

Well, the sad thing is, if F1 were to move to any new track, the tracks would have to be made to look absalutely hideous with giant tarmac runoff strips and deforestation, like how Fuji Speedway was completely transformed, but F1 only used it for 1 or 2 years and then ditched it.

SUGO all the way. Autopolis seems an odd one to miss out though, it's still only Grade 2 but it was designed with F1 in mind.

The original plan was a race sharing agreement like Hockenheim and Nurburgring between the two, but the financial crash in 2008 hit Toyota (who own Fuji) hard, and they didn't want to spend money on hosting a race.

Just my opinion, but I don't understand how you guys can like Fuji more than Suzuka :boggled: i find Fuji quite boring to watch.

Driving the two tracks, Fuji doesn't feel like it has a rythm to it...it actually feels like 3 individual sectors.

As for Suzuka providing boring races, I put that on the F1 cars and/or drivers. Super Formula and Super GT have amazing, exciting races at Suzuka with a lot of overtaking, so it's definitely possible. Just not with F1's time trial cars.

Fuji was the best. I loved the 07' and 08' races.

Can somebody explain exactly what is FIA Grade 1 briefly? :p

Now, it basically means it's a track with massive pit facilities and tons of tarmac run off.

hsv

Well that's awful...the tarmac run off I mean. Well...guess the WEC (thankfully) has an advantage of choosing locations if F1 is going to be picky about it.

Grade 1 means it's suitable for F1 use. Tarmac Tilkedromes are becoming to norm now for modern track designs, so there are only a handful of relatively short run off/gravel and grass run off tracks that are on the Grade 1 list. The only reason you'd really build a new track now is if there was some incentive to do so, because all well known tracks were once little tarmac stretches in the middle of a field which have just been modernised over time. The only real incentives are world class events like MotoGP, F1 or WEC, which all pretty much require Grade 1 tracks.

The alternatives are either gravel or no run-off. We've seen how bad gravel is for stopping F1 cars or keeping them down, and no run-off is obviously too dangerous at F1 speeds. It's not really a case of being picky, it's a case of not killing drivers.

Okayama, but it would need to be upgraded considerably. Motegi or SUGO are barely doable for SuperFormula, let alone F1.

It was tight and cramped when the Pacific Grand Prix went there, and with the sport having gotten faster in the past twenty years, the effect will only be magnified.

Here's a wild idea - keep the race at Suzuka, and don't worry about alternative venues until the organisers have to.
