I'll be honest, the more I see it, the more the Opel VGT looks not-real and immersion breaking to me in a way that most VGTs don't.

I don't know if it's the material/texture work, or the insistence on the super straight-line styling, but this looks very "computer game graphics-y" to me, whereas most VGTs, even if they aren't believable as real cars they at least feel believable as real objects.

I think it’s the flat matte paint that makes it look like it’s missing textures.

It does kinda sorta look like a vehicle you might see in Tron or something along those lines. It has grown on me though

I think is the colors combination

I don't mind the styling. Looks very HOONIGAN and new Renault like. Livery editor will fix that.

The matte paints in GT tend to look like clay for some reason, so this VGT being predominantly matte paints and sharp edges makes it land in the uncanny valley in a way I can't really put my finger on. Like others have said, a touchup in the livery editor - maybe metallic or gloss colors at minimum - would make this look better.

About the only thing I'm skeptical on when it comes to this specific VGT is the fact that an AWD EV with that much output is only 1170 kg. If this were to be built out in reality I wonder what would have to be done with the construction and design to enable that low weight...

I suspect this would help:

The 82kWh battery quoted for the VGT (assuming that's the maximum capacity and not the usable) would be ~220kg, compared to about 500kg for an equivalent sized lithium ion battery pack from an Ioniq 5.

Combine with axial flux motors, which are about half the weight or better compared to radial flux motors for the same power output, and you're looking at about a third of a ton saving without necessarily getting into fantasy land.

I think it's cool! But I think Opel's case will be much like Skoda, where the VGT will come by itself, and it may be a while before we see other cars from the same brand. Definitely some things to look forward to!

The preview of the news looks interesting, but the rest of the screenshots show a boring car. I don't understand what the designers smoke there. In any case, it will be another electric spaceship. I hope that the update containing this miracle will consist of more interesting cars. What is encouraging is the return of Opel and Vauxhall brands, but again this is not a guarantee of the appearance of real cars of these brands in the game, at least in the near future. For example, Skoda is not in a hurry yet.

Would be a fair assumption, but why would they say "autumn" as a release date in the article if it was coming this month? I feel like that might mean it's not coming in September.
Autumn is either Sept-Nov or 21 Sept - 23 December in the Northern Henisphere.

I would say they don’t want to detached the promo from the release and I think October would be too far for a video teaser as above and November even more so, December most certainly.

So that does make me feel a September update or early October is likely - based purely on the video and history of GT7 updates.

(This should probably be a Sept prediction thread)

This is the discussion thread for an article on GTPlanet:
