Got busy doing some hardware/software work on my computer and lost track of time... Probably won't be finished in time to jump in tonight. :dunce:

Got that you have to much crap warning again. So went through deleted over 600 paint chips. That was set at Hue and only got into the dark silvers. LoL

I'm going through over the next week and removing a bunch more. Then begin to dupe my favorites. :) like to have about 10-20 chips of each favorite color.

I can provide a happy home for all your blue paint chips. ;)

I apologise for missing the last sprint there at GVE/R. The ring is a lot of fun and the car behaves well there. Unfortunately you do not get many laps from a set of tyres, however. Quite a beautiful track, as well.

Fun driving all around folks.

Had a hard time keepin up with you M--G. Lol it was all good. It is a fun track.

Cool 👍 But I was hoping for a track....
What is "Disable collisions"??
And... Can I hope they finally fixed the ride-height weirdness :D

Figures they'd finally do an update on the day we're going to start a new season. I sure hope they don't change/break anything major with how the game works.

I too would much prefer track to cars, but they are a lot more complicated to make. And yeah, "disable collisions"?? Who the hell would want that? That seems like the exact opposite of a feature people would want.

I'll send you some on my cleaning out today.

I had sent my Five to a backup account. If you will send them back. I'll send you ones I really like. Which should be on par with what you like. From colors I've seen you use.

HSV has my attention. Wanted that car last year.

Check out its exhaust note. So awesome

Sorry but my first thought was an F1 car with a cold  it will sound like a vacuum in GT5 though :(. I don't use GT500 cars that often but I will be getting it. I'll skip the GTR thought ;)
(personally I think a V8 should sound more like this)

There was a website on Honda racing that showed the exhaust and all. With a incredible quality exhaust note clip.

I really like the HSV sound. But nothing beat a real V8 sound. Braaap braaap

Reduced tire wear? Sigh, there goes pitstop strategy.

Reduced tire wear? Sigh, there goes pitstop strategy.

It does say reduced tire wear on endurance races, presuming that means A-Spec endurance. But that would likely apply to all modes of racing, including online play. After the uproar about increased tire wear on the racing compounds this will probably be a good thing, but I'm sure there will be equal amounts of complaining from the masses. It's nice to see an update coming, but I'm suspicious. I'm wondering if we should push the start of the season back by a week so we can test this out and make sure there aren't any unwanted surprises.

I hope the tire wear is reduced online so we can actually use Racing Tires again without pitting every five laps.

The way it reads in the gtplanet post is that it should only affect the 'endurance' events, and perhaps not the online play.

I do, however, think that the tyre wear model may be a bit off anyway. I know that a stock C5 Z06 does not destroy the softest tyres you can buy in 15-20 laps at Laguna. Just doesn't happen. Nor does a Civic eat fronts in 10 track miles on a cambered course. I also find that the level on longitudinal grip is artifically low for a given tyre model, and the level of lateral grip to be elevated. I think that had a great affect on the tyre change decision in the Coulthard race event.

If PD had allowed disabling of collisions in online lobbies, you might have had many more satisfied casual and hardcore gamers playing online from the beginning and perhaps many still there. As it is, it's a wasteland and that was the number one complalint from the beginning, running around minding your own business and getting rammed into a barrier or off the track. Not very realistic to drive through someone, but if it's an option and not mandatory, it's a good option...but would have been much better 21 months ago.

If I had a vote, my vote would be for pushing the season back a week, you never know with these updates what kind of chaos might ensue. Wouldn't be the first time.

EDIT: It's as clear as mud as is usual for PD but I noticed this in the update:

[Adjusted the changes in control characteristic when altering vehicle height from standard height. (Vehicle height can be changed by adjusting ride height, either by installing a suspension kit or adjusting a full customizable suspension kit.)"

I have no idea what that means but it could at least be in part referring to the reverse ride height glitch that's been around since the beginning. Won't affect us in a Spec Series but it sure might make some of the Tuna's unhappy...lol.

I'd push it back if I were you.

From what I've experienced with 'penalties' on is that when a car begins to lose control it will ghost and can drive through those around it, as can other cars drive through said ghosted car. It is almost as if collisions were disabled already. In a race environment I've found this to be beneficial to the following car, as they can effectively 'dive bomb' the car in front and not risk a racing incident; but rather instead would continue on through the leading car. Essentially, you can pass without proper racing room. I know that small bumps and taps are registered, but it seemed rather arcadey to me. I am not sure what is meant entirely by 'collision disabling' but I would have to assume it would turn a race into a time trial if everyone else is effectively 'ghosted.'

On another note, I found my car to be around 10hp down....so that may explain my lap times being a bit off the last couple of meetings. I will work on that.

I will be in the lounge for a half-hour or so.

I think it's going to be wise to push the start date back a week so we can feel out the new update and make sure everything still works the way it should. I don't want to be dealing with any surprises and having to adapt on the fly during our event. So the official start date will now be Tuesday October 2.

I'd still like to do some racing tonight, perhaps at Autumn Ring as suggested. Let's plan on meeting up in the lounge around 8:30pm EDT, we'll do a mock event and start qualifying at 9:30pm EDT. I don't know that the lap times are around Autumn Ring but I'm thinking a 15 lap race should probably be a good length.

Brandon, the following Tuesday is the 2nd of October. The 30th is a Sunday.

Thanks Ace, I was looking at October. :dunce:

I think that is a good decision to allow a bit of time to acclimate to the new changes coming round. I'll be interested to compare my recent test lap times to the new update afterwards.

In some off-topic discussion, I'll be attending my first ever AutoX event this weekend. We'll see if all this GT5 experience actually translates to some real-world driving. :)

What will you be driving, and what is the organisation?

Parking lot or airstrip?

2008 WRX, Stage 1 ECU map, upgraded front/rear sway bars. It's with the Sports Car Club of 'Merica (SCCA) and I believe it's in a giant parking lot. I know a guy who goes regularly so I'm going up with him to check it out and let my car stretch its legs a bit. Should be fun and I imagine I'll be doing it fairly regularly next year. Just wish it were closer, it's about 1.5-2 hours away from me.

Oof. If the map increases boost that is going to toss you into ASP, if it only adjusts fuel/ignition then you're in STU with both sway bars upgraded. Some clubs will lump all novices together in an indexed class, however. If you will have someone experienced to help you be in the proper lines for tech, etc that will be a great relief and make the day smoother.

Run the car low on fuel, and although you are allowed to keep any bolted in spare tyre equipment, etc; remove all of this. Find others with similar tyres on a WRX and see what works for pressures on that surface, but I can tell you you'll want the fronts 40-42 to start(lower if cold surface) and the rears adjust to taste. You can verifiy the rollover to adjust later on, but with modern street sidewalls that is not a great indicator anymore as they don't roll much even with low pressures. On a stock WRX I'd crank the rears up, but with a big bar you may want to start a couple of lbs below the fronts.

You'll hear this a million time; look ahead. That's it, really. 10 years from now you'll still be reminding yourself that. I highly advise taking an instructor along for a ride, perhaps the first or second run. Some regions may require this. Even more effective, I cannot stress enough the importance of riding along with an experienced driver, preferably in a similar car. You may even be allowed to have an instructor take you for a ride in your own car. For a first timer, that will be the most beneficial and produce the most drastic drop in time during the day.

Above all, have fun!

This one seems to be a lot closer...

It's a tad bit closer (not much) but the guy I know has been there and says it's not very good, rough surface, rough facility, rough neighborhood and a very small/short course. He was debating which one we should go to and we decided to go to Ft. Wayne instead, he has a chance to get third overall in points for the season up there too. It's not terribly far but it makes for a pretty long day. Should still be a good time though and the weather is supposed to be pretty nice, if a bit cool. 👍

EDIT: Spot on advice Marcus. I plan on doing all of what you mentioned. I'm going with the intent to learn and have fun, not compete. I want to ride with someone, have an instructor ride with me, etc. It's going to be tricky learning to negotiate the course and I don't expect to be anything other than a novice. My map does increase boost so I'm sure it will put me in a different class, but as I said I'm just there to learn and have fun so I'm not at all concerned about what class I'll be in. I see it as a day with a bunch of fellow petrol-heads, surrounded by lots of cool cars, topped off with some fun driving. 👍
